Nothing compares to the pain of losing a loved one --- and when the loss is sudden and violent, the agony is compounded. In the wake of a tragedy, especially one involving violent crime, it's understandable to desperately reach out to try and grab hold of anything that makes sense. Finding a place to lay the blame can become a life's work for some and a way to find closure and peace for others.

Often the blame from the media and politicians is swift and concrete --- it's the guns fault. The war cries bellow for 'common sense gun reform' and people from all over demand 'something must be done.'

In this haste to bury the second amendment, in the heat of the moment and with passions peaking, there are many misconceptions when it comes down to 'what must be done.' Here are five of the most important myths that tend to either be overblown or completely fabricated.

Myth #1 | Nobody Is Trying to Take Your Guns

The script is basically written prior to any mass shooting. The left will explode in a chorus championing gun control while the right cries out claims the left wants to confiscate their guns. Mockery from the left ensues and the right is singled out and marginalized Saul Alinksy style. But what is the truth? Progressives truly do want to eliminate as many guns as possible and some even prefer an all out ban.

The truth is Progressives do want to eliminate as many guns as possible and some even prefer an all out ban. In 1995, Diane Feinstein let her true intentions be known on 60 Minutes talking about the assault weapon ban she helped craft.

"If I could've gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States for an outright ban, picking up every one of them --- Mr. and Mrs America turn 'em all in --- I would have done it."

Or how about President Obama after the shooting at Umpqua Community College in Oregon.

"We know that other countries, in response to one mass shooting, have been able to craft laws that almost eliminate mass shootings. Friends of ours, allies of ours — Great Britain, Australia, countries like ours. So we know there are ways to prevent it."

What do those countries have in common? An all out ban. The insinuation is clear to see despite the vague language, if they could get away with it, they would love to take a sledgehammer to the second amendment.

Myth #2 | Buying a Gun Is a Piece of Cake

At last check, buying celery does not require a photo ID and background check. Nor does it carry a federal penalty for providing false information.

The left's agenda is on full display when the President makes such a ridiculous claim as this:

“It’s easier for you to buy a handgun and clips than it is for you to buy a fresh vegetable.” --- President Obama

Buying a gun is nowhere near as simple to buy as a bushel of corn or a head of lettuce. Maybe a shady back-alley deal to buy raw milk across state lines from the Amish is a better comparison but even then, this argument is a real head-scratcher.

Despite media depictions, you cannot simply walk into a store, pick up a gun and check out at the self-serve kiosk.

Myth #3 | Gun Violence Is Skyrocketing

This is a lie so oft repeated, even conservatives start to take it as fact. The media is in the ratings business and there isn't a more sexy headline than the epidemic of gun violence and the call to 'do something.' But guess what, this one is simple --- the numbers don't lie.

The truth is, gun homicides are down 49% since 1993.

"Compared with 1993, the peak of U.S. gun homicides, the firearm homicide rate was 49% lower in 2010, and there were fewer deaths, even though the nation’s population grew. The victimization rate for other violent crimes with a firearm—assaults, robberies and sex crimes—was 75% lower in 2011 than in 1993. Violent non-fatal crime victimization overall (with or without a firearm) also is down markedly (72%) over two decades." --- The Pew Research Center

Myth #4 | The 2nd Amendment Only Applies to Muskets

Celebrities are always good for a laugh when it comes to gun control, especially Piers Morgan.

"The 2nd amendment was devised with muskets in mind, not high-powered handguns and assault rifles. Fact." --- Pierce Morgan, December 3, 2012

By this logic, flying cars must be banned as well. How could our laws for terrestrial-bound automobiles accommodate such a dramatic change? Technology is always on the march and thankfully the second amendment does cover it.

A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. --- Second Amendment

'Shall not be infringed' seems to crystallize things. It's the language game the left plays that really muddies the water. By calling certain guns 'weapons of war' or 'military style' the public is pushed in a direction in contradiction with reality. The most vilified gun in the media is hands down the AR-15, which looks like a machine gun but only fires one bullet at a time. But by calling it an 'assault weapon,' the connotation in the court of public perception is completely skewed.

Semantics aside, the constitution didn't say anywhere Americans have the right to bear muskets. We have the right to bear arms, and that's the bottom line, a line that 'shall not be infringed.'

Myth #5 | It's the Gun's Fault

A gun is just as culpable in any shooting as the keyboard is for writing this article. It's a tool and can be used for good or for evil. Is it the keyboard's fault for cyber bullying? Should a laptop be banned because it wrote a hateful manifesto before a terrorist attack?

What matters is the intent of the user === and this is where the left and right should be able to find common ground can be f. People who have a history of violent crime or mental illness should not be allowed to legally purchase a firearm. This is something most on both sides of the issue can agree on.

To solve the issue, it will require dedicated care to help the mentally ill as well as preventing them from owning a gun. It will require the country as a whole to heal the anger and conflict that drives these violent outbursts. There are no simple answers and there will be plenty of obstacles in the road but there is good cause to keep up the fight.

President Trump hasn't even made it through his first 100 days and he's already staring down the barrel of an impending nuclear apocalypse. The world is a tinderbox from the Middle East to Asia and there are several lunatics playing with matches.

Throughout history, tyrants and dictators rise up and oppression and domination swell to a breaking point and freedom and righteousness must step up to the plate --- or else face enslavement. The biblical Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse represent death, famine, pestilence and war but all four are present in four key nations to the peace and security of our way of life.

Here is a look at four tyrants who are threatening to destabilize the entire world and life as we know it.

Syria: Bashar al-Assad

Four years ago, President Obama said his red line for taking action in Syria was the regime's use of chemical weapons. It was a line that was continually crossed with no action taken to stop it. Eventually, a deal was reached for Assad to dispose of his arsenal --- a deal John Kerry claimed as a success.

Fast forward to last week, Assad used what has been confirmed as Sarin gas to attack a rebel village and President Trump responded swiftly with a barrage of Tomahawk missiles to one of their airbases. The Syrians alliance with Russia, Iran and North Korea spells trouble for the rest of the world.

Russia: Vladamir Putin

Russia has risen from the ashes of the cold war to be quite the agent of chaos. Thanks in large part to the counsel from Aleksandr Dugin, Vladamir Putin has found a way to put Russia right in the middle of all of the most important events of today.

If they aren't rumored to have conspired to get Donald Trump elected they are accused of hacking our most vital institutions and now are war criminals. According to the accusations of Rex Tillerson, not only did Russia know about the Syrian gas attack in advance, they also provided aid in attempting to cover up the attack afterward.

Mix in a little aid to North Korea and Iran and you've got the makings of a nuclear event that would bring the world to its knees. It looks like the axis of evil is shifting and accepting new players.

Iran: Ayatollah Khamenei

Putin and Assad are dangerous because of their lust for power. Un is dangerous because he's straight up nuts. But Iran is the most dangerous of all for a totally different reason --- they really believe in the end of the world type of stuff. They want to cause chaos and destruction to bring back the Mahdi.

Iran has been linked to terrorism for decades and their pursuit of nuclear technology goes beyond their claims of 'peaceful purposes.' Continuing to ignore this fact will only lead to a more dangerous world and jeopardize the safety of people around the world.

North Korea: Kim Jong-Un

The other three tyrants mentioned are either ideologically driven or evil and power hungry and want to rule the world. But Kim Jong-Un is straight up certifiably insane. He is the wild card that could set the world ablaze and scar the face of the earth for generations to come.

China recently deployed 150,000 troops to the North Korean border to handle the influx of refugees in the aftermath of an attack from the United States. That really makes you wonder if they know something the American people don't know.

Glenn's Perspective

"Do you remember when George Bush used to say, freedom is on the march?" Glenn asked Tuesday on radio.

"No, it is not.  Freedom is in retreat.  Darkness, tyranny, and oppression are on the march. The return all over the world of men like Stalin, Mao, Mussolini, are just as active as they were a century ago."

If war does come, what we will see from North Korea will be on a whole other level.

"If war restarts with North Korea, this is warfare on a completely different scale. Violence is possible here, the kind of violence that we haven't seen since World War II. Analysts predict the capital of South Korea will be completely leveled after North Korea's counterattack," Glenn said.

"If North Korea ever falls, we're likely to see atrocities that we haven't seen since the Allied troops freed the troops in World War II."

Democrats have positioned themselves as the keepers of equality, the ferocious defenders of the underdog. But in honesty, nothing could be further from the truth. As with many movements in the 1960s and '70s, Marxism and radicalism poisoned the direction that this movement would take. Unless you are a political junkie, the confirmation process for the Supreme Court is not exactly must-see TV, but the results will shape the courts for decades. Over the next two to three weeks, Judge Neil Gorsuch will field questions from both sides with most of the intensity predictably coming from the left. The good news is the left isn't likely to find many arrows to sling.

Gorsuch appears to be devoid of the proverbial skeleton in the closet that Democrats hope to find, making his confirmation a near certainty --- knock on wood. That said, there are several scenarios that could play out of the next several weeks. Here are the five most likely:

1| Democrats Roll Over

It only takes a simple majority for confirmation, meaning Gorsuch only needs 51 votes. Republicans own the majority of seats in the Senate with 52 and none are likely to vote "no." If a few Democrat votes are swayed his way, Gorsuch could be confirmed with a supermajority of 60 votes, making it impossible for Democrats to filibuster.

2| The Nuclear Option

Thanks to Harry Reid reinstating the parliamentary rule of the nuclear option in 2013, Republicans are able to invoke that rule and bypass the 60 vote threshold. If Republicans choose to implement the nuclear option, only a simple majority is needed and Gorsuch would be confirmed. Utilizing this option would almost certainly make for an all out war for the next nomination which could happen as early as this year.

3| The Two-Speech Rule

A Senate rule mandates the Senate stay in the same legislative day until filibustering senators give up on their efforts. This is essentially a way to tire out the filibuster and exhaust the objecting minority to run out the clock. Confirmation would only require the simple majority of 51 votes this way.

4| Punt

While highly unlikely, this would occur if, for whatever reason, President Trump withdraws the nomination. Whether he's expending too much political capital or some scandal were to explode, Trump could just punt on Gorsuch and go back to the drawing board.

5| Democrats Actually Like Gorsuch

It's no as farfetched as it might sound. Gorsuch is a very reasonable judge who was confirmed unanimously 10 years ago to the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals. If Republicans and Gorsuch sway a handful of Democrats, he could easily push through with a supermajority.

Analysis

From most reports, there's not much to object to when it comes to Judge Gorsuch --- even for Democrats. Don't get too excited just yet, though. Democrats will have to play the part of taking a stand and cast a few votes against him.

Don't expect Trump to punt, he hasn't seemed too concerned with a little opposition. When he chooses his guy, he tends to stand by him. Invoking the nuclear option isn't likely either, as it could have serious ramifications no one wants to deal with this early on in an administration.

Watch for enough Democrats to cave for a supermajority. Republicans have the upper hand and Democrats know it. Judge Gorsuch is a conservative's dream, but he's not really a liberal's worst nightmare either. As it stands now, we can look forward to hearing the name Justice Gorsuch for decades to come.

Looking to be entertained in 2017? Between Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime --- not to mention the revolution of luxury seating at movie theaters --- the vast majority of Americans find the variety and superior production value of TV and movies the perfect escape.

That's not really Senator Mike Lee's cup of tea, however. And thank goodness for it.

While the senator does enjoy a good movie, what really gets him fired up is the Constitution --- and judges like Neil Gorsuch, Trump's nominee for Supreme Court Justice whose confirmation hearings begin today. Not one of Gorsuch's written opinions as a federal judge has ever been overturned by the Supreme Court. Additionally, he writes with a clarity and wit that has great legal minds like Sen. Lee smiling and laughing.

Not only has Sen. Lee enjoyed getting to know the judge by reading opinions on the cases he's presided over, he's also gotten a real kick out them. When asked about a few favorites, Sen. Lee was thrilled to oblige, warning one might "hear angels sing" and "weep tears of hot joy" whilst reading Gorsuch's opinions.

Below are a few excerpts from Judge Gorsuch's writings that evoked such joy from a constitutionalist like Mike Lee:

No political truth is . . . stamped with the authority of more enlightened patrons of liberty than the separation of powers.

Think that beauty speaks volumes? Try this one on for size:

When the political branches disagree with a judicial interpretation of existing law, the Constitution prescribes the appropriate remedial process. It’s called legislation.

Judge Gorsuch really knows how to make a conservative weak in the knees. Here's one more that might make your heart flutter:

Transferring the job of saying what the law is from the judiciary to the executive unsurprisingly invites the very sort of due process (fair notice) and equal protection concerns the Framers knew would arise if the political branches intruded on judicial functions.

Mentioning the Framers in a written legal opinion? Be still Sen. Lee's heart.

Reading legal opinions may not be the chosen form of entertainment for most Americans, but count your blessings that men like Sen. Lee and Judge Gorsuch are endlessly fascinated with them. If Gorsuch's opinions don't cause you to "hear angels sing" or "weep tears of hot joy" then maybe this will: According to Sen. Lee, America is on the verge of confirming the perfect man to fill a massive, conservative void in the Supreme Court.

Karl Marx defined socialism as a pit stop between capitalism and communism. While sometimes this change happens slowly, it always ends badly. The quickest and worst example of this transition is Chairman Mao, the greatest mass murder of the 20th century. Mao Zedong used his power to crush the Chinese people in a merciless attempt to create a new socialist China. The majority of his crimes came in two distinct waves --- The Great Leap Forward, beginning in 1958, and the Cultural Revolution of the 1960s. In the end, an estimated 65 million Chinese had died by execution, imprisonment or forced famine.

Deep within the roots of socialism is a brutal and dismissive view of human life. Long before Hitler’s horror was revealed, the spirit of individualism threatened Joseph Stalin’s grand, communist design for Mother Russia. Stalin forced peasants to give up their farms under the banner of collectivism, taking their independence, livelihoods and food supply, plunging the Ukraine into famine. So desperate was the situation that widespread reports of cannibalism surfaced. Ukrainians now gather each year to light 25,000 candles in remembrance of the 25,000 people lost every single day of the Holodomor or, as it's more commonly known by Ukranians, "death by hunger."

We're told that genocidal dictators are manifestations of the hateful right, while left-wing icons like Che, Mao and Stalin need to be understood in context. To get our feet on the solid ground of truth, we must walk through the past with eyes wide open.

Modern conservatism, in a nutshell, is that government is not the solution to our problems; government is the problem. If that belief is the foundation of conservative thinking, how can Hitler's Nazi Germany, which controlled every aspect of a citizen's life, be labeled as conservatism or right-wing philosophy? How could that be true? Or is it the left's attempt to distract from the similarities between communism, socialism and fascist Germany?

In the presidential election of 1948, the incumbent president Harry S. Truman was facing off against his Republican challenger, Thomas Dewey. Truman had succeeded to the presidency in 1945 following the death of President Franklin Roosevelt. The election, considered to be the greatest upset in American election history, had virtually every single indicator predicting Dewey as the victor. There may have only been one person in the United States who firmly believed Harry Truman would win the election: Harry Truman himself.
