Deep within the roots of socialism is a brutal and dismissive view of human life. Part I: 1800

The ink was barely dry on the Constitution before the nation was embroiled in one of the craziest elections of all time: The presidential election of 1800.

In 1796, Washington's vice president John Adams seemed the logical choice to succeed him --- and he did, becoming the second president of the United States. Just when it appeared electing a Founding Father to the highest office in the land would be easy, as easy as powdering a wig, Thomas Jefferson decided to oppose Adams to stop his reelection in 1800.

Part II: 1860

The 1800s were turbulent time in America, with the nation discovering what it was. It was growing exponentially, assimilating tens of millions of new immigrants. America had captured the imagination of the entire world.

It was also a time of confronting the evil of slavery. The Founders had laid the groundwork, stopping the importation of slaves. But ending the practice of slavery itself would require the right leader, at the right time to see the country safely through to the other side. The election of 1860 was critically important to achieve this worthy goal, with Abraham Lincoln rising to capture the attention of the nation and secure his place in history.

Part III: 1912

In the nation-altering election of 1912, a rare four-way contest, Woodrow Wilson became the 28th president of the United States. After former President Theodore Roosevelt failed to receive the Republican nomination, he called his own convention and created the Progressive Party (nicknamed the “Bull Moose Party”). Three weeks before the presidential election, Roosevelt was shot on the campaign trail and delivered a speech with a bullet lodged in his chest, less than a quarter inch from his heart. On the Democratic side, Woodrow Wilson finally received his party's nomination on the 46th ballot at a contentious convention. Wilson, arguably the worst president in American history, won the election, gaining a large majority in the Electoral College and winning 42 percent of the popular vote.

Part IV: 1948

In the presidential election of 1948, the incumbent president Harry S. Truman was facing off against his Republican challenger, Thomas Dewey. Truman had succeeded to the presidency in 1945 following the death of President Franklin Roosevelt. The election, considered to be the greatest upset in American election history, had virtually every single indicator predicting Dewey as the victor. There may have only been one person in the United States who firmly believed Harry Truman would win the election: Harry Truman himself.

The battle for Texas independence spanned many years and famous battles, including the Battle of the Alamo and Goliad Massacre. The final showdown — the Battle of San Jancinto — took only 18 minutes and saw only six Texans killed compared to 600 Mexican soldiers. Another 700 were captured.

An hour after the carnage, Santa Anna himself was captured and brought before General Sam Houston. The general’s men called for execution, but Houston had something else in mind: Victory and independence for the Republic of Texas, with Santa Anna signing a treaty to end hostilities.

The 18-minute battle remains one of the greatest military victories in world history. With it, the proud Republic of Texas was born.

Texas history could ever be complete without covering Sam Houston, one of the most complex and fascinating characters in American history. Born in Virginia in 1793, Houston would become the only American to serve as the governor of two separate states, a congressman, a senator and the president of a sovereign nation — the Republic of Texas. Revered for his military service under Andrew Jackson during the War of 1812 and as the general who would defeat Santa Anna at the Battle of San Jacinto, Houston fell out of favor when he refused to secede with southern states during the Civil War era. History would eventually right the wrongs done to his legacy and prove his judgment correct. Today, Sam Houston remains a beloved and giant figure in Texas history.

History of Texas Part IV: Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie

Two men that made an enormous impact in Texas history were Davy Crockett and Jim Bowie. While both were in Texas a short time, they’re contributions were many.

A fierce outdoorsman and war hero, Crockett would be elected to three terms in the United States Congress, representing his district in Tennessee. He was so committed to the principled use of taxpayer money that he voted “no” to giving $100,000 in federal funds to a Navy hero’s widow. The vote made Crockett so unpopular that he lost his bid for reelection, famously proclaiming, You can all go to hell. I’m going to Texas. Crockett was welcomed in Texas with open arms.

Famous for his fights, wounds and weapons, Jim Bowie and his his nine-and-a-quarter-inch long, one-and-a-half-inch wide knife would become the namesake for the “bowie knife.” After experiencing a family tragedy, Bowie decided to join the fight for independence and defend the Alamo. During the 13-day siege, Bowie became gravely ill and bedridden. When Mexican troops stormed the mission, Bowie is said to have emptied his guns into the soldiers entering his room before they bayoneted him. Both Davy Crockett and James Bowie died at the Battle of the Alamo, defending Texas independence until the very end.

The Clinton Machine might be known for winning elections, but the Machine is just as adept at taking care of controversy.

The Clinton’s rode a Whitewater wave of scandal into office and dealt with the Branch Davidians in Waco in controversial fashion. Vince Foster’s death may have officially been ruled a suicide but it was shrouded in controversy. Then there was the Chinagate fundraising scandal. These are all related to her husband’s administration --- next up are the personal scandals.

Part III: Bill's Many Women

Gennifer Flowers, Juanita Broaddrick, Paula Jones, Kathleen Willey and Monica Lewinsky are just a few of Bill’s many women. Whether it was a consensual affair or forced sexual assault, Bill is a notorious womanizer. As governor of Arkansas, Bill even had state troopers escort women to him in what was later known as "Trooper Gate."

All of his womanizing caught up with him when Linda Tripp made secret recordings of her conversations with Monica Lewinskey about their affair --- leading to his impeachment. But just what does all of this have to do with Hillary Clinton? As long as Bill’s had other women, Hillary has been linked to the heart of their scorched earth policy in destroying and silencing them.

This is especially important because of a PSA on sexual assault Hillary released during this presidential campaign.
