100 years later—same controversy: Planned Parenthood and “women’s health”

Jan Schakowsky and Mika Brzezinski have both recently come out commenting on the recent contraception mandates on the Catholic Church, saying it’s a matter of “women’s health,” not just religious freedom.

Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D – IL) went as far as to say, “There’s no controversy around contraceptives for almost 100% of Americans. There’s few in the — some in the Catholic Church and maybe some other evangelical churches, I don’t know, that think it’s wrong. But none of the American people follow that.”

To which Glenn said, “Some in the Catholic Church …but they’re not American?” He followed that up with, “It’s their right of conscience.”

Mike Brzezinski had a similar take on the topic, attempting to turn it into a male vs. female issue, bringing up a well-known fact that the Catholic hierarchy is male. “Which means of course that they hate women and that’s all this is about,” Pat responded.

Glenn pointed out that this debate over Planned Parenthood goes back about one hundred years, citing Michele Malkin’s recent article on Margaret Sanger and her motivations behind Planned Parenthood.

Glenn noted, “As she wrote in her autobiography, Sanger founded Planned Parenthood in 1916 to stop the multiplication of unfit. This she boasted it would be ‘the most important and greatest step towards race betterment.’ She conspired with eugenics financier and businessman Clarence Gamble to, quote; hire three or four colored ministers, preferably with Social Service backgrounds and engaging personalities. The outright murder wouldn’t sell, but wrapping it under the cloak of, quote, women’s health, and adorning it with the moral authority of black churches would. Sanger and Gamble called their campaign the ‘negro project’.”

As Glenn points out, “it’s the same people. The controversy is Planned Parenthood. Outright murder wouldn’t sell, so they cloaked it with “women’s health,” what did she just say, Jan Schakowsky just said it was about women’s health. That’s the same thing that Nancy Pelosi is saying. So, Planned Parenthood, women’s health, and they adorn it with the moral authority of churches.”

That’s exactly what is going on right now with the attack on the Catholic Church via Obamacare contraception mandates. Those few “Catholics” in power that are pushing for these mandates, the media trying to make those Catholics who are loyal in their faith look like extremists, and the churches who aren’t standing against these mandates, are all pushing the same narrative to isolate the Catholic Church and force them to accept these mandates.

Glenn concluded by saying, “The playbook is here. This just happens to be from 1916. But the playbook is here. This is what they’re doing.”

It is amazing how many friends I have that have literally gasped when I brought up the whole history of PP and Margaret Sanger! I NEVER would have researched Fabian Socialism, Edward Bernays, or the progressive era if it wasn’t for Glenn pointing it out! You’d be amazed when you look this stuff up how much more sinister history and some of the players were! God Bless Glenn Beck!!!

When was it decided that a women capable of bearing children needed health insurance companies to protect them from it? It seems strange that a women would voluntarily  take a pill that could cause blood clots leading to stroke heart attack and death and expect their health care provider to furnish it at all, let alone for free. I understand a women’s need to make her own decisions, but this goes to far.

Ironically, while in the hospital, recovering after my 4th child was born, I watched a PBS show about Margaret Sanger.
I grew up Catholic, knew about the only acceptable method of birth control (the rhythm method)   and thought it was silly and unrealistic. I personally had used “the pill” for one year of my marriage. Married life was happier without it. I never suspected, though, that there was anything wrong with taking birth control pills. I thought they were practical and realistic, and kind of a Godsend for people who wanted to enjoy physical intimacy without always worrying if a child would be conceived….. which would bring on morning sickness, more responsibility, and emotional instability.
But as I sat in my hospital bed, learning about Sanger, I got the creeps. The show tried to paint her as a savior of overburdened and overwhelmed mothers, but they told enough of her true motives and personality to leave me disliking her immensely. She had a dark purpose. That was apparent.
When the nurse came in to “counsel’ with me about being sterilized, now that I had FOUR children, I didn’t hesitate to say “No, absolutely not!” Any kind of birth control seemed evil at that point in time. And I wasn’t Catholic at the time, just more well informed.
The Catholics have it right on this one. That’s what I think.

Margaret Sanger was the lover of H.G. Wells; she studied rosacrusian and was into the new age beliefs.  She was evil.  All  social engineering begins with verbal engineering.  Just change a word’s meaning about ten degrees and it is no longer symbolical but diabolical.  We are now dealing with the changed meaning of words- “women’s health.”  Remember friends- Just because something is beautiful, does not mean it is comfortable and pleasant.  Or in this case, just because something sounds good; does not mean it is comfortable and pleasant.  Women’s health for Planned Parenthood= abortion.  Veritas et Liberare- the truth will set us free.

Michele Malkin’s article was an accurate synopsis of who Margaret Sanger was.   My personal take on her is she was really a man in drag-there was nothing womanly about her.  If she had ovaries, they weren’t producing!    I found her to be a disgrace to our gender.    I believe Hillary had two women she admired;   Sanger was one, the other was Eleanor Roosevelt.   As my mom always said, “tell  me who your friends are and I’ll tell you who you are.”

The present administration would like this to be a “women’s rights” vs. Church/male battle, when all along it is a government vs. the people fight.  Government vs. The Constitution.

The government is testing the waters under the cloak of “health” and “contraception” when the goal is forcing the Lie of Abortion at faith-based hospitals. They will deny it to your face and say it will never come to that point but they are only biding their time. They will keep coming back. The Lie of Contraception led to the Lie of Abortion. Now, they want to force those Lies on you — by coercion, by “reason”, by saying “everyone’s doing it”.

I’m just going to say I support the use of birth control (for some more than others). Unfortunately in my business I see people who cannot pay their rent yet are on their second or third child. They can’t pay their rent, they have a fancy smart phone, cable, and o yea a dog (usually a pit-bull puppy) on government assistance, if you don’t believe this occurs, I have a lot of proof. Life is a miracle and parents who put their own needs over that of their children should not have them. Yet that being said, I support freedom and an individuals right to chose health insurance that suits their personal needs or the needs of their business. It’s all about the free market. The people dictate to the free market what we want, mandates destroy freedom. Most of these people don’t have enough discipline to take a pill everyday anyway. But just to clarify some stuff about birth control, I take it for medication due to what I consider a pretty irritating condition (ruined 15 years of my life). It’s expensive (over a hundred for the prescription every three months). I’m required to have an exam every year (also expensive), and a bone density (also expensive) every two years due to the type I use. Planned parenthood would not cover this for sure, so stop saying people can get birth control really easy. You can’t, maybe the morning after pill or an abortion, but not birth control.

girls/women.   Many of them appear to have made it a business because of the money they

collect from the gov’t for each child born.   However, theirs is not the only race playing the

One point that has constantly gone missing in this discussion has to do with the rights of the employee.  The Catholic Church should not be able to force it’s views on it’s employees by limiting their insurance.  The employee “earns” the insurance through their own work.  It is not a gift from the “church”.  If the Catholic church doesn’t want to provide contraception then the cost of the insurance should be given to the employee to then purchase what ever insurance they want on the open market.

If you really want to see the whole truth about the evil that characterized Margaret Sanger, check out and read the book “Grand Illusions” by George Grant.  She deliberately placed the first Planned Parenthood clinics in minority neighborhoods and considered them to be weeds to be disposed of rather than human beings to be cherished with equality.  She apparently lost sight of the fact that we are all the collective posterity of Adam and Eve and therefore equally worthy of consideration, respect and preservation.  Tragically, that eugenicist mindset is not dead and gone and we must remain ever vigilant to keep it from turning America into a repeat performance of Nazi Germany during WWII. May that never happen here!

This was the plan to tap into the black church to spread the vision! Well, the WORD IS OUT! Is it not time we blew the lid off this 501c3 non profit organization, if any organization was founded on these beliefs today they would be brought up on charges. That’s exactly the point. Take away the welfare state, if you want it, you have to take classes on cooking and cleaning and proper care for the child. And if they continue to have babies just to receive more money don’t give it to them. They either have to rely on family, or in the worst case adoption. Stop rewarding people for making babies for goodness sake. And education, if the government gave a rats arse about people, the institution that already exists, public schools, should be a tool to teach responsibility. Liberals want people to be dumb and helpless.

By the way, I pasted it here for you.
This quote has been used by numerous Sanger detractors, including Angela Davis and the pro-life movement, to support their claims that Sanger was racist. However, according to New York University’s Margaret Sanger Papers Project, Sanger, in writing that letter, “recognized that elements within the black community might mistakenly associate the Negro Project with racist sterilization campaigns in the Jim Crow South, unless clergy and other community leaders spread the word that the Project had a humanitarian aim.”

the logic used in Glenn’s argument: when PP was started 100 years ago, it was meant to be part of the eugenics movement (then in full swing in the US, and wouldn’t die down until much, much after WWII) therefore, it must be bad today because of it’s bad beginnings.the logic used below: these companies worked with the Nazis.  Therefore, because they were bad then, they must be bad now.  Quick, let’s boycott!  call on Congress to remove their corporate charters!  just don’t let the NAZIS take over!!Hugo Boss: designed Nazi uniforms http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-15008682

it would fall under the religious exemption, since we would be talking about groups whose primary purpose is religious faith.

now, should that organization buy a controlling interest in a corporate finance firm, they would have to abide by federal regulations on interest rates, whether they believe that usury is a sin or not.  because they’re no longer a “church” they’re a “financing firm”.

some insurance does cover it.  and if you get insurance through a company that does, guess what?  your premiums go into the same pool.  basically, if you buy insurance, you buy into a risk pool, with lots of people with lots of different risks.  which means, lots of different stuff gets covered, including stuff you don’t need.

Hyde Amendment – taxpayers don’t pay for abortions.

I lived in Japan for four years, and they have a socialist medical system.  There are problems with it, for sure, one of the biggest being that it can’t pay for itself.  However, the elderly and disabled got amazing care, for cheaper than you could ever imagine here.  To the point where hospitals actually became the hang-out place for some lonely old people.

The unborn also got great care, because their mothers got great care.  Again for cheap.

There are financial issues with the system, but lack of great care is not at all the issue with socialism.

Private employers do not have a right to adhere to their beliefs when it infringes on the rights of their employees.  If we were talking about CHURCHES your concerns would absolutely apply, but we’re not.  We’re talking about large corporations that do not religiously discriminate in hiring, and then attempt to force religious dictates on their employees.  I’m not sure how that’s not a first amendment infringement.

also, the pork and volt arguments are not on point.  the government can’t mandate what a company can SELL, but it can make regulations on how the corporation treats its employees.  regulations like the 40-hour work week and minimum wage are long-standing, and while people argue they’re unconstitutional under the Commerce Clause, the argument that they’re violations of the first amendment really doesn’t hold water.  for the Amish and the volt, that’s just silly because that’s regulating private activities, which is of course not what’s going on here.

if it were a free market then sure, shop around. unfortunately, to make insurance even marginally affordable for most people, employers offer it as part of a compensation package.  so, you either take what the employer offers, or pay twice as much for half the coverage on the open market.  not much “free” about the free market.

nope.  women’s health for PP = breast exams, pap smears, STD testing, pre-natal care, health education, birth control, and even men’s health (prostate exams, STD testing).  so essentially you’re saying that the 95% of what they do that is good, and helpful for tons of women, is really a front for their evil 5% of abortions.  if you want to get rid of abortions, just say you want to make them illegal.  but can we stop with the conspiracy talk already?

when it was realized that spacing births too closely together can create physical problems for mom AND baby, and that having too many children can cause problems for families.

what I don’t understand is why men should get a pill that can lead to heart attacks and thin blood and expect their health care provider to furnish at all let alone *with no co-pays.* I understand a man’s need to get it up, but this goes too far.

black communities tend to be underserved by other medical providers.  so do rural communities.  Planned Parenthood’s mission is to provide safe, affordable access to health care (includes more, oh much more, than abortion) so it makes sense that they would situate themselves where the need is.

many Planned Parenthood clinics don’t even offer abortion – you have to make an appointment at a special provider clinic.  of the like 6 PP in my area, only one offers abortion services.  so claiming that clinics are located in minority communities is a false argument unless the majority are also abortion providers.
if black people are seeking more abortions than their share of the population, maybe it’s worth it to ask why that could be.  in my opinion, a conspiracy theory, with PP at the head, seems more complicated than just about any other explanation.

It isn’t bad to a person who believes in moral relativism.
But I for one believe that killing a human being in the womb for no other reason than the fact that the parent doesn’t want it is wrong. I’ve heard arguments about the woman not being able to afford it, she doesn’t want it, it’ll affect her college career, etc etc.

None of those arguments are valid. Human life trumps your lifestyle.

My last child was born under extreme financial duress. I have two boys with autism and they are all the light of my life. There is no reason for abortion on demand. Absolutely none.

    “If
we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell
other people to not kill each other? Any country that accepts abortion
is not teaching its people to love, but to use any violence to get what
    they want.”

no one is killed by birth control either.  the whole point is PREVENTING pregnancy.  you never get to pregnancy, you never get to abortion.

but the point is religious liberty right?  the point of the example is that if you enter the public market, you must abide by the regulations that all other businesses abide by.  they could decide to pull back, and only be churches, in which case, the exemption would apply to them.

and that’s fine for you to believe. what you don’t get is to tell me what to believe.  the point to the article and the companies cited above is that the beginnings of a company may not represent its current priorities.  PP had a creepy beginning, sure, but that doesn’t mean that it’s an evil organization out to create a new eugenics movement.

Wow Alicia you do not know your history. Have you even read any of Margaret Sanger’s writings?. She was involved with the Nazis doctors and hated the black man. Most of PP clinics in my state are there to do abortions and not give exams, pap smears…etc. Did you know that the world health organization classifies oral contraceptives as class D which is carcinogenic? Look it up. This is a fact never heard in the main stream media. When did breast cancer explode as epidemic worldwide? Ten years after the pill was introduced. 1970-80s. Before that older women in their 50-60′s got breast cancer not 20 30 40 year olds. This is not women’s health. Call it conspiracy talk if you will- what it really is that a whole nation bought the lie.

This countries education system is designed to smother independent thought. Public schools are filled with socialistic indoctrination, with out freedom of thought. Kids are not taught basic logic. Information is useless if you do not understand the meaning behind it. Example: If it wasn’t for my sound logical education (which I received at home) I would never understand how expensive it is to raise a child. How important life is and to treat that responsibility with the respect such a miracle deserves. My high school taught the birds and the bees, yet no real reference to the true impact of childbirth. Liberal thought numbs your mind, having no intent on teaching responsibility and consequence. You take what your given, never questioning the source. And when your brain is empty, completely incapable of logical reasoning all together, you can become a helpless government zombie. No thanks. I’ll take personal responsibility.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VOIVE4HBQT5TWCISIW75XMK5UE Alicia

i take it you don’t talk to very many liberals…

i was raised by conservatives in a “liberal” house – meaning that i was encouraged to question where the information was coming from, and to do research on my own.  My high school taught abstinence-only education, at the age of 14/15 (freshman year of high school).  by that time, it was kinda a moot point for about half the kids in the class (small town, not much else to do when you’re not old enough to either drink or drive somewhere else)being politically “liberal” doesn’t mean that your brains have fallen out.  it simply means that you disagree with those that are politically “conservative”.

I agree that our school system needs changing, and i agree that kids aren’t taught enough logic.  but i think teaching logic isn’t going to change people from liberal to conservative, simply because by utilizing independent thought, independent people will come to different solutions.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VOIVE4HBQT5TWCISIW75XMK5UE Alicia

see my posting below – whatever Sanger was doing that was so icky, it doesn’t define the mission today.  I don’t know where you live, but i’ve lived for pretty good lengths of time in four different states, and there’s usually a PP around, but it’s more difficult to find one that does abortions.  just speaking from experience, i can’t tell you what percentage of clinics actually do provide abortions.

“the use of COCs modifies slightly the risk of cancer, increasing it in some sites (cervix, breast, liver), decreasing it in others (endometrium, ovary)” …”They regularly review the safety of COCs and assess the balance of risks and benefits of COC use and they have determined that for most healthy women, the health benefits clearly exceed the health risks.
    http://www.who.int/reproductivehealth/publications/ageing/cocs_hrt_statement.pdf

nothing about being a class D carcinogenic, which i think they would have included in the report.  apparently the slight increase in risk of breast cancer is offset by the decrease in risk for other cancers and other health benefits.  Also, the link to breast cancer may be mostly in the older drugs, which had higher levels of hormones, and have been replaced.

it depends – recently regular birth control has been accused of being an “abortifacient” because there’s some worry that they thin the lining of the uterus and prevent implantation of a fertilized egg.  there is little scientific evidence for this – it’s pretty much an unfounded concern.

Plan B prevents ovulation, and does not prevent implantation.  if fertilization and implantation have occurred, you’re still likely to get pregnant, even after taking Plan B.

what other abortifacients are you thinking of?

Well then, you have come to the heart of the matter. Party politics is irrelevant. The disturbing effects of socialism is all that I wish to avoid. When I tell people I do not believe in organized religion, I‘m already lumped into a liberal box, yet when I rant against big government control, it’s assumed that I don’t support gay marriage. The real enemy to society is government and religious control, both can lead to socialism, which stifles our freedom to pursue our individual happiness. I read all kinds of different thought, yet I only take with me thoughts that are logical.

Alicia- Do yourself the favor of emailing Gerald Nadal Phd- google him and bring all your questions to him. He is far better than me at explaining the biology since his Phd is molecular microbiology. You are wrong about PP women’s health agenda because it is a euphemism for controlling women’s fertility and thus controlling population growth especially in minority communities. Look up statistics on how many abortions are performed on white women vs latino women vs black women from PP in NYC alone. Read Sanger for yourself- you can still get her books from Amazon. I don’t know when you were born but if it was after Roe v Wade 1973, the generations born in this country after that are missing 1/3 in each most from the largest provider of abortion in this country which is Planned Parenthood.I wish you well,

the number of abortions in different racial populations is not necessarily caused by a eugenics movement instigated (secretly) by PP.  There could very well be other reasons for it.  Since abortion is currently a legally medical procedure, it could be very well that women in minority communities feel that they can’t care for a child in higher proportions than in other communities.  I would be interested in seeing the numbers on abortion rates in various economic classes, as that would tend to point more to circumstances having an effect on what women decide to do with their pregnancies.

Sanger doesn’t currently control the mission of PP, since she’s been dead for a couple decades now.  Without more evidence of some sort of underhanded scheme by PP, I’m inclined to believe the more straightforward explanation: more women in minority communities seek abortions for their own reasons.  It would behoove us as a country to find out what those reasons are, so that we can attempt to decrease the rate, including through the use of birth control, which PP provides.

    http://www.un.org/esa/dsd/agenda21/res_agenda21_05.shtml
read through starting at section 5.1.  There is nothing about population control in there. They’re establishing research to see how large cities interact with their environment.  It also encourages countries to encourage women to be equal partners in society, including increase education and health care resources for women.  Again, nothing about population control.

PP doesn’t “control” the fertility of women.  It allows women the resources to control their OWN fertility, and thus better control the circumstances and outcomes in their life.  Instead of having the outward control of husbands or fathers.  Spacing children, and having fewer allows women more time and money to access education and job training, and thus gain greater economic and political power, so that they can do things like change laws that demean women and deprive them of rights.

I’m not sure about the example of China, unless you think PP is somehow pulling the government’s strings, without letting anyone know.  It’s a little bit far-fetched, I think.

not sure how that happened – i agree we should have a free market for insurance.  it would drive down prices, and allow people to pick and choose among competing companies.  there should be basic regulations about information transparency (like how used car lots have to accurately relay the mileage of the car)

all I was saying was that we currently DON’T have a free market for insurance.  and as long as we don’t have a free market, all employers should be treated the same by the same heavy-handed regulations.

i’m not sure what scientific questions he could answer.  I’m already well aware of the process of reproduction.  the question is: at what point in that process is does life come into being?  That’s a philosophical/moral question, not a scientific question, and one that each person needs to answer after looking at their own morality and beliefs.

Really the issue is abortions and honestly if you want to get rid of abortions, then somewhere somebody is going to have to step up to the plate and pay for the unwanted children. What is happening now, is that girls in many areas are trying to get pregnant so they can get on welfare. What is worse is that children are having children. It really is ok to say “don’t do that,” but it hasn’t worked saying “don’t do that?” Dah… being a woman I also don’t want to see back alley abortions either. Who is going to pay the bills? Really this is a lot more simple than it seems. If your for getting rid of abortions, then be willing to accept the responsibility of the children. It is a wonderful thing to live in a country where one is allowed to have opinions and make other people responsible for them? Haggling about the “lie” doesn’t do anything for anyone. Accepting responsibility for what is happening is the only way it can be resolved, but the problem is no one wants to be responsible.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VOIVE4HBQT5TWCISIW75XMK5UE Alicia

what would a degree in microbiology get me though?  That would merely tell the process the egg and sperm go through during fertilization, and that the zygote goes through after as it matures.  It does not answer the question of when life begins.  That is a personal question we must research and put to ourselves.  It concerns questions not only of “what is life?” but how we value the lives of individuals, since both the mother’s life, and the baby’s life are at issue.  Those aren’t questions a scientist is going to be able to answer, except as to his own opinion.

in the same vein, a nuclear scientist can tell me how to build a bomb.  that does not make him an authority on when to use it.
thank you for the citation.  when I looked through the references, the press release was somewhat more ambivalent - it said that while certain cancers (liver and breast) may be increased, other cancers (ovarian) may be decreased.  http://www.iarc.fr/en/media-centre/pr/2005/pr167.html

also, reading through the IARC’s monograph, the studies that were done apply to combined estrogen/progestin birth control methods.  on pg 34, near the top, it does say that progestin methods are generally considered safe. http://monographs.iarc.fr/ENG/Monographs/vol72/mono72.pdf

therefore, it’s only a specific type of birth control that may increase the risks of breast cancer, according to IARC, not all types.

the same monograph towards the end of pg 35 cites several health benefits of combined birth control as well, beyond their use as contraceptives.

pp 50 to 53 are an historical overview of birth control.  It’s kind of interesting, because it appears that there were more side effects early on, and so they’ve decreased the amount of estrogen/progestin in the methods, to still prevent ovulation, but without the same level of side effects.

I find two things offensive. Censorship and men forcing women to live to some standard that they are not willing to pay for. It’s beliefs back and forth like a ping pong ball with women stuck in the middle of the debate. The issue is responsibility. Planned Parenthood says women should have a right to choose. Anti-abortionists don’t want to be responsible for what is happening, but force their will on women that are for the most part clueless. There are a lot of things happen before the day of abortion including guys saying things like “if you love me you will……” How about a movement that bans men from forcing their will and desires on women, when what most women are looking for is to be accepted by somebody?

Planned Parenthood is about promoting sex in kids to foster the industry of abortion because it is about big bucks, billions. Don’t fool yourself, they are responsible. Go to link http://www.theblaze.com/stories/hooking-kids-on-sex-graphic-new-vid-report-shows-how-planned-parenthood-is-creating-future-customers/ . Flannary O’conner and Walker Percy, famous Southern American authors both wrote that “tenderness leads to the gas chambers.” Planned parenthood is the gas chambers for young babies in utero because it is trying to save the world from unwanted children. Responsibility is lacking in this country/world but kill the baby because mom and dad are not mature? Responsibility can be taught but a child can not be brought back to life once it is murdered. Have you ever had the courage to look at an aborted fetus? It is all over the internet. Go to operation rescue website and look at the Truth Trucks. It is brutal, abate beyond gross like something out of a Nazi film. Abortion is an industry based on killing and International Planned parenthood has an international agenda through the United Nations. Yes, as a woman, I want to get rid of abortions and oral contraceptives which kill women. See this link- http://www.americanthinker.com/2010/02/the_pill_and_breast_cancer.html. And yet you think it’s great…and what happens when you run out of other peoples money. Japan is dying as a country for several reasons, one of them being the fact that people are no longer having children. There are not enough people entering the work force to support the ever aging and longer living population that benefits from all this wonderful care. Lived in Japan for quite a bit longer than you did and am married to a Japanese national. Your glossy “everything is wonderful” take is the product of a non natives view. You keep saying “cheap” well it aint cheap for the taxpayers, which again, there are fewer and fewer…

I believe that you are correct in identifying the responsibility factor. But I also believe that the responsibility for a child lies directly with the parents of that child. Abortion involves the killing of a child and the parents and doctors involved decide to commit that killing. So, what responsibility are you suggesting?

i didn’t have a “everything’s wonderful” view – in fact i recognized that there are problems.  you’re putting words in my mouth by extrapolating out of one single issue.

i was responding to the person’s concerns about socialism being able to provide good quality care.  from my experience there, the quality of care was good.  that was all i was replying to on that.  if i really wanted to get into a huge dialogue about japanese politics, i would have called my japanese friends.

you’ve made all that up.  you don’t know me, and are justifying your views by making statements about me.  you don’t like my views, fine, but don’t pretend i’m some sort of bogey-man just so you can dismiss me.

i talk with my father about this issue all the time.  he’s a good catholic, and vehemently disagrees with me.

you also see what you see, and believe what you want, as evidenced by your psychological projections onto a person you don’t know.  you don’t know how old i am, what my personal life is like, or even if i use contraceptives.  and yet you make these silly, silly comments.

i’m posting because it’s an issue i believe strongly in.  just like you do.  at some point it would be nice if you could recognize that there are views on either side.

What about expecting society and more specifically the women of society to RESPECT THEMSELVES!!!!    The sexual revolution was packaged as “freedom” for women.  As a result we now have generations of women and girls who believe happiness can only be achieved through sexual exploitation and degradation.  With this so-called new “freedom” we now have an American culture that depicts the value of woman as being equal only to her physical attractiveness and ability to please a man sexually.  We have increased teen pregnancy, STD’s, men who no longer feel the need to commit, increased divorce rates, and a media that delivers entertainment in the form of soft-core porn.  The “idols” of our culture are either drug addicts or half-naked girls who do nothing noteworthy to contribute to the betterment of our society.

If women continue to believe that physical/sexual attraction and promiscuity is what constitutes freedom and happiness, then they need to quit complaining about not being able to find a good man!!!

If women don’t respect themselves, then how can they expect men to respect them!!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/tkoh.foundation.org Sarah Carrol

If we go with scripture for any of this or for possible answers then respect for one’s self is not a human thing, but respect for one’s self is really from God.

Without God there is little or no respect for self or others. At least that is what scripture seems to indicate and for some of that respect it takes walking in whatever a person has been called of God to do. Once again, if a person in the body of Christ is walking with God that is one thing and if a person even in the body of Christ is not walking with God or too well, they are a danger to themselves and others.

Salvation for today is about having respect of God first, others second and ourselves last? Without the Holy Spirit if we did not do irrevocable damages to ourselves we would certainly do it to others if we believe Paul’s account where he seemed to feel that there was nothing good in himself except for God. He of course can only speak for himself, but with some self examination we probably would come to the same conclusion?

Women are taught whatever they are taught, but they are taught by men. That is not a blame thing, but men mold women one way or the other (again if we believe scripture?). Without scripture then your right we have control over ourselves?

Women dress the way they do because they were taught things either by parents or the media that it takes certain things to get and keep a man? Then again men tend to like to say, “if you love me you will do …….” this or that? Please don’t make me paint pictures?

How many good godly men are there our there? It is an argument either way. But how many men really walk as they are supposed to in Christ or in their purpose or calling, because that is the definition of a godly man, well according to scripture at least?

  • Anonymous

You gotta love it.  The people deciding the rules in regards to womens health are all men?  Willing to bet if men had to carry a child through to birth, raise it and deal with the life long changes it makes to the body, this wouldn’t even be a topic of conversation.

  • http://www.facebook.com/tkoh.foundation.org Sarah Carrol

Well that would be true if we do not go with scriptural accounts of why this stuff happens the way it does and the biblical reason for it is we are dealing with powers and principalities, but the only way out is walking in God’s love and will. Evil cannot fix itself. Only God can and that is through Christ, both Jesus being the head and the body of Christ, but the body needs to take or at least accept responsibility for it and then seek God for the solution? If the body keeps saying things like it is evil that needs to fix evil, we are going no where fast….

  • http://www.facebook.com/tkoh.foundation.org Sarah Carrol

Going back to scripture beliefs do kill. Jesus said himself that we do not speak from our tongues but from our hearts and the condition of our hearts. If that is the case, we let people live or die because it is in our hearts to do so one way or the other.

That is not a nice thing to think about, but it goes back to accepting responsibility for it. One cannot be empowered to fix what is happening unless they accept responsibility for why it is happening?

First of all – does anyone realize that birth control medication is not healthy for a woman. So when pelosi, or her coharts, states this is an issue for woman’s health, she is lying through her teeth. Contraceptives are detrimental to a woman’s health. They cause the body to go through unnatural cycles, or delete the natural cycle altogether. They can cause blood clots – just a horribly controverted biological process.
Birth control medications are used more for the convenience of the couple.
But don’t get me wrong. I believe in the use of contraceptives. I do not understand the Catholic belief that contraceptives are immoral. Whether you practice the rythym method, or withdrawal, or prophylactics or medications, it is all to prevent contraception. So, I do not believe in the Catholic ideology.
However, don’t get me wrong again – I am so angered by obama trying to intervene, and go against the Catholic belief as to force the Catholic entity to provide for birth control, in all the states from prevention to abortion.
And as a final statement, I just want the government out of my health care – completely. Any decision I have to make about my health should be between me and my doctor, and perhaps my family.

  • Anonymous

The Catholic Church isn’t saying that the insurance it pays for can’t include “The Pill,” if and when it’s prescribed for a specific time and for a specific illness. It’s only saying that it doesn’t want to fund its use if it’s being taken as a means of contraception. Incidentally, the Catholic Church has nothing against the rhythm method of birth control: it’s truly not that difficult to figure out one’s own cycle and to refrain from intercourse for 36 hours a month. It worked fine for me, and I managed to figure out my own cycle by the time I was in my early twenties — BEFORE the days of the OTC kits that tell you exactly when you’re fertile each month.

  • Anonymous

You do realize, of course, that couples routinely pay as much as 100,000 dollars to adopt ANY baby from ANYWHERE, don’t you? As for “unwanted” pregnancies, is there any particular reason why you think people shouldn’t take any responsibility at all for their actions? One wonders how much time is spent, during your average Planned Parenthood visit, in teaching women enough about their own bodies so as to be able to identify the 36 hours a month when they can actually get pregnant. (I’ll go way out on a limb here and say that probably, it’s none whatsoever.) Isn’t learning as much as possible about one’s own body important? Especially when it comes to one’s health and well being, knowledge is empowerment.
Is the rhythm method foolproof? No, of course not — although it worked just fine for me. But then, I know a child who was conceived in spite of both her mother having been on The Pill for over a year, and her father having worn a condom. (Her parents decided not to have any more children after making three girls, so they are very cautious and careful — but the fourth obviously had other plans, and arrived anyway.)

So what you’re saying is, people can only practice their beliefs and adhere to a moral standard within the confines of a specific building and during specific hours? No one is making you seek that job at a private company — so why does that company have to go against its conscience just to accommodate YOUR beliefs? Why not limit the practice of YOUR beliefs to a specified building during certain hours, instead?

Young woman on the street with the clipboard yesterday, forgive me for failing to convince you that another human life is not an inconvenience and an embarrassment and a restriction on your freedom. Forgive me for failing to argue effectively that our constitutional rights to liberty and the pursuit of happiness are necessarily dependent on our right to life. And dear friends reading this and finding it hateful, please forgive me. I write in love. Peace.

  • Enid Shields

Yesterday a young woman from Planned Parenthood soliciting donations on the street informed me that abortion is now only 3% of the services her organization provides, the rest is reproductive health services and disease prevention. I told her that she had an impressive harm reduction model, but I am absolutely against the taking of innocent human life. I agree, their front needs to exposed for what it is. They play on your sympathies and insecurities, so you end up feeling misogynistic for not supporting health care for women and women’s rights to their bodies. They do not understand that they are misogynistic in promoting the violation and mutilation of human flesh and the destruction of human life aligning with their view of pregnancy and parenthood as shameful and oppressive states of our human experience. Yes, misogynistic, and misanthropic, a destructive slash-and-burn worldview trained on our human population as if our lives needed to be managed and cleared like the forests that also give life.
