No it is not stunning to those of us who have seen it happen since the self annointed, narcissist in chief entered the White House. He has become the darling and god-king of the media and the fanatical, radical, extremist leftists and socialists/marxists/communists; so he and the first lady cannot be seen or talked about in any way that has them doing wrong.

Anymore the media is only about ideology – THEIR ideology – and all else is in opposition that needs to be coerced or forced into compliance, or failing that, discredited, defamed, distorded and then destroyed.

It is absolute hyopcrisy beyond any doubt, and the current propaganda of the leftists would make even the propaganda ministry of Wilsons admin smile with delight, while secretly they plotted their usurpers downfall to take over the helm of state again.

Understand the core rule they use – tell a lie long enough, loud enough, often enough, and there will be those who accept it as having a basis in truth. They do not need to change a persons perceptions of the Romneys completely; just cause enough doubt to come into play to make a person hestitate in casting a vote for him this November.

Failing that, their secondary purpose is to get potential voters so sickened of politics and the constant rhetoric, that they choose not to vote.

Glenn, you are missing the bigger point here. We’re all used to media hypocrisy. But HELLO — Ann Romney spent (reportedly) almost $1000 ON A SHIRT. Michelle Obama spent (reportedly) almost $7000 ON A SHIRT. How many meals could be provided to hungry Americans with that kind of money? How many bus rides? How many books and school supplies?

The outrage here is NOT the actions of the news media. It is the actions of two women who ought to be more concerned for the struggles of ordinary Americans. And even if ordinary Americans could afford to be that greedy, it still wouldn’t be right. This is a disgrace, a ridiculous waste of money, even if it is from their own bank accounts. There is such a thing as greedy, and this a good example of it. They both ought to be ashamed of themselves. I’m disgusted.

How people spend their own money is a good indicator of how they will spend other folks’ money.  I am NOT IMPRESSED with the choices the Romneys are making, any more than I am with Michelle Obama’s. All three of them seem to have more money than sense.

It’s really not up to us to judge how others spend their personal money. I could say the same thing about you what you did about them. Instead of buying your $15 (or however much) shirt, why not give that money to a homeless person to eat for a day or two, or to a child who needs new pencils for school? I’m just saying that we could say something like that about everybody, but where does it get us? If you find spending money on clothes a waste, put it to better use. Every single time. Complaining that lots of hungry children could have been fed with the $900 or $6800 is beside the point. In both cases, the purchasers (Ann and Michelle) paid retailers, who paid wholesalers, who paid producers, who paid WORKERS !!! If the rich didn’t buy that clothing, the WORKERS would not have a job! Because Ann and Michelle purchased those items (with THEIR OWN MONEY, mind you), those workers are able to feed their children. And likewise the people at each point in the process (retailer, wholesaler, etc.) are able to feed THEIR children. Isn’t that better than giving everybody a HANDOUT ??

Wow, all of you seem to forget several key points:
1.  If you have a powerful position and want to make a good impression, you have to dress the part.  Hell, the Wharton School of Business teaches this basic lesson.
2.  If you are being presented to Royalty, you certainly are not going to go in your Levi’s.  Let’s face it, President and Mrs. Obama have money (just like every other president we have had).  Why shouldn’t they utilize their funds (yes the First Lady does get a clothing allowance, as all of the other First Ladies did).
3.  No one seemed to criticize Nancy Reagan on all of her designer gowns when President Reagan was in office.

 Do a little homework and see how much money Romney has donated!!  Even before he started making his BIG money, he nearly gave away all of the money he inherited from his father.  Compare that to Al Gore, who also comes from a very wealthy family and he’s not even on the same planet as Mitt.  Gore, Biden, Pelosi, Reid are among the tightest people in the world.

It’s a catch-22…although, I don’t appreciate how the Obama’s spend “our money” she’s still representing our country. If she was to wear something nice from Nordstrom’s for $600.00 that she bought on sale, the media would have a field day with how tacky and unfashionable she is. Catherine, you are the one missing the point all together.  Meals, bus rides, books, etc could that money buy is indicating that if they can spend that amount on clothes, then somebody should take away from them to give to someone else.  If you look at the charitable giving by % of income of both families, the Romney’s have done more to provide meals, rides, etc, than the Obama’s ever will voluntarily.  Based on reported incomes, $1,000 is a small % of their expendable income as opposed to the Obama’s income.  My question might be, who actually paid for that $7,000 jacket? Obviously, there is far more people able to afford these expensive items or they wouldn’t be available in the first place.  Who really cares, except the greedy and the takers, how much they spend on clothes.  Just keep it all above board and equal when reporting.

 Another little difference!!  Mitt worked, invested and earned his.  The O’s have worked for the state, federal gov’t much of their working careers. 

Actually, lots of people were fed with both articles of clothing.  The people who made the shirts got paid, the people who made the fabric, the people who delivered them, etc.  That the simple law of economics.  When something is bought, someone gets paid.  Selling and buying is how we afford to live.  Yeah for expensive clothes that feed lots of people!

YOU are missing the point. To ask the question “How many people could have been fed with that money?” does not necessarily mean I think that is how it should have been spent — only how it COULD have been spent, as a comparison to show the outrageous expenditure. It could have been spent to buy clothes for children who genuinely NEEDED them.

But when Jeff Bezos gives 2.5 million dollars to support gay marriage, that tells me something about him, and I don’t admire him for it. How you spend your money is one of the ways people evaluate you. If you are a person who believes you can justify spending $7000 or even $1000 on a SHIRT that tells me your priorities are mixed up, and that you have a pretty high opinion of yourself — probably much more than you deserve.

Extend what has been said here, visa vie, Romney’s money he made, vs. Obama’s spending ours…to Corona del Mar, in Orange County, Ca. where Obama ran up a bill of over $35,000 and refuses to pay it…the Secret Service..refuses to pay it. (evidently they only pay for prostitutes).

On the other hand, Romney spent approximately $10,000 bill in Newport Beach,  Ca. and he paid before he left.

We’re still waitng for Obama to pay for his bill. Remarks in the L.A. Times are yelling that Newport Beacher’s can afford it and should pay it!

If Michelle Obama’s clothes are paid for from her husband’s salary, her own savings, or even a budget provided her as First Lady, then she gets to spend it the way she sees fit. And I get to criticize her poor judgment, just as I criticize Ann Romney’s.

I would be nice IF madam obammy spent her own money, but that $6800 shirt is at the American taxpayers’ expense…who does she think she’s kidding anyway?  Ann Romney spends her OWN money when she makes purchases, and did so when her husband was Governor.  The media is so out of touch with reality, it’s the first time in the history of any nation  that news is being reported by the certifiably insane and should be locked up in some asylum.

Mitt Romney says in defense of having money, “I am not going to apologize for being sucessful” AMEN. When is the last time someone looking for a job asked a poor man for one?  Also we might wonder what Mitt does with his wealth?  First of all he donates 16% to charity (Obama give 1%)  He served as a Govenor without pay, also he headed up the Olympics in 2002 and gave his salary to charity.  Why should we be outraged with what Mitt does with his money, more than Obama is doing with mine and yours?

I also have HUGE concerns over the obammy’s lavish lifestyle, particularly since it is paid for by the American people and not one thin dime is from their own cofer. This obscene couple are not only shameless, but a national disgrace.

How does Obama get money…..who pays his salary? They are hypocrites…..his side commented about what Ann paid for her blouse. Who’s money paid for it?

Keepapitchenin, I don’t think Romney owes anyone an apology for being successful, or for being rich as a result. And I admire him for his charitable donations. But I have a right to be disappointed in the choices he and/or his wife make in how they spend their money. How people spend their money tells us a lot about them.

new2la, President Obama gets his money through a salary he is paid. He earns that for having been elected to the job of president. Yes, the taxpayers pay his salary. That’s how it works. But how he spends the money he makes and how the Romneys spend the money they make should be held to the same standard.

Both shirts were paid for (presumably) with money earned by the husband of the woman who bought it, although it’s possible the First Lady is given a clothing allowance.  In this case it is largely irrelevant that the First Lady’s shirt money source was tax dollars; it was money earned by the President.

What the heck is an “expensive account”? Romney gives most of his money to the “charity” of the LDS church. I would like to see some examples of other people being as obsessed as you folks are with any other First Lady’s behavior, clothing, appearance, and spending.

The Romneys’ have given more to help others than you could earn in a lifetime.  The obamas’ have given $300 according to them.  Romney inherited millions from his father and gave every penny to charity; he donated his salary as governor during his 4 year term, and has worked for no pay at various times during his career.   Noting that, I would say that Ann Romney is entitled to spend $900 of HER money on a shirt; on the other hand, Michelle obama is NOT entitled to spend $6800 on a shirt she purchased with other people’s money (US Taxpayer) that she will wear only once so as to impress a Queen of another nation.   And if asked, it’s a safe bet to say the Queen was not impressed.

I do not believe the government should be able to legalize gay marriage because the church originated the institution of marriage. However, if they decide to give gays the same benefits under the law without them being legally wed then I see nothing politically wrong with it. Grated it’s against my personal beliefs, but not my political ones.

Lastly, I am pro-life. In all cases, including rape. I believe the government has the responsibility to protect the unborn’s right to life, liberty and the future pursuit of happiness.

CSGZERO: I am not a Republican. I am a conservative. There is a difference, since many Republicans, like most Democrats, are progressives. I dislike progressivism (which is not the same as progress, although progressives would like us to believe that). But I often vote Republican since it is, to me, usually the lesser of two evils.

As a conservative, I do not appreciate seeing “pro-life” lumped together with “anti-gay” and “racist.” Those are prejudices. Being pro-life is the opposite of being prejudiced. And assuming that someone’s being conservative makes him a racist homophobe is bigoted itself.

That I do not support the gay lifestyle or gay marriage does not mean I am “anti-gay.” I am not against gay people. I am against their choice of lifestyle. I do not necessarily believe gay people are born that way (no “gay gene” has been found, and the human genome has been mapped). But I do believe that most gay people did not make a free choice to be gay. How it happened remains a mystery; perhaps it was a problem in their childhood gender-identity development. But if they believe they have been that way as long as they can remember, I will not argue with that. They have my sympathy and compassion, just as anyone with an addiction, a compulsive behavior, bad habit, etc. does (including myself). But their desires are disordered. They go against nature. Their insistence that the rest of the culture adapt to their disorder is not helpful — not for them, and not for the culture, and especially for the children in our culture. Gay people themselves claim only 10% of the population (this is not supported by science, which indicates 2-4%). But if gay people are correct in their claim, 90% of the culture is heterosexual, which means the best place for children is with heterosexual parents. Gay marriage threatens that.

There are people who identify themselves as conservatives and/or Republicans who are racist and homophobic; there is no doubt of that. Some of the racism can be seen on this thread. But having those characteristics does not automatically indicate that someone is conservative, and being conservative does not automatically mean that someone is racist or homophobic.

Similarly, being liberal, progressive, Democrat, or Libertarian does not automatically mean that someone is compassionate, intelligent, and better than people of other political persuasions.

Let’s be honest, most of these comments are just biased, and not rational.

Sandie, the point I was making is that being First Lady is indeed a job. Certain things are expected of her, and among them is making personal appearances, meeting important people, representing the President and the American people, etc. If she is given an allowance for clothing suitable for that job, I don’t have a problem with it, and I don’t understand why any reasonable American would have a problem with it.

The problem is not that she has or needs a suitable wardrobe. It’s even that she should not receive some sort of budget or stipend for that — if she doesn’t, she should. The problem is that the First Lady is not a queen, and should not have expenditures like that. If Ann Romney is a potential First Lady, she should not either.

As to what you say your point is, I disagree. The 1st lady’s hubby makes $400,000 /yr with a $50,000 non taxable expense account (as of 2001 – in 2000 it was $200,000 + $50,000), and he can certainly afford to dress her appropriately to do the meet and greet that he wants her to do. The taxpayers elected/hired the president, not his wife. She functions or not at his discretion and thus she has no individual salary. He is responsible for her support, and any reasonable American would understand that. If that isn’t clear, think of the big CEO whose wife is expected to function socially with respect to him as the 1st lady does with the Prez. She doesn’t get a separate salary from the company for it, her hubby provides.

Barb/CO, Maybe you havn’t been watching anything except Fox news.  Though you really should have seen it somewhere.  Mrs. Obama shops at Target and other regular stores, and not for photo ops.  She tries to sneak in, wearing hats, large sunglasses etc.  Or do you not like to hear things that do not fit with your ideas?  You said “millions of people got her there”.  How did every other First Lady “get there”?   

And while we’re at it, a good example of Michele Obama’s lack of ability to be appropriate concerned her attire and demeanor at the Vatican.  It was disrespectful.  And her touching Queen Elizabeth II.  And in many circles, it is considered rude for a man to even eat a meal in shirt sleeves at certain events and she is constantly showing up in sleeveless outfits.  This is so inappropriate.  Her attitude is that she is above the norms of polite society that have existed for years to show respect to others.  But she and her husband are very self involved.

It is irritating that people seem to think we cannot call out this lack of respectful and appropriate behavior because someone will think we are racist.  That is ridiculous.  There are many refined and appropriate black women and many unrefined and inappropriate white women and vice versa.  Just reference the mona vestida de seda mona se queda (monkey dressed in silk is still a monkey) comment below.  People are afraid to say anything if someone is black, even if their comment has nothing to do with the person being black.

Obama has not earned is own money in HIS OWN eyes.  Remember he is saying small business owners didn’t sacrifice, and take risk and build their own businesses because they used public roads (paid for by taxpayers INCLUDING them) or that they didn’t build their businesses because “someone must have helped them”, so if he applies that to himself, then his money is not his either, because he would not have earned it without the public having elected him to this office (no one would have been interested in his book without that) and he used public roads to travel on his campaign.  So if he doesn’t believe in private property, isn’t it a little weird to have a wife that dresses in clothes that expensive?

Kate Middleton and the Royals ALWAYS wear expensive jewelry to the various functions they attend.  I doubt that Kate was wearing that necklace on an ordinary venture in the neighborhood or to shop at one of her favoriite stores.  Even the Queen doesn’t do that.  Both have been shown to wear modest pieces of jewelry for everyday wear and no jewelry when out in the yard, at the beach, etc.  Sooo…just saying.

Michelle Obama was going to meet the Queen, and for all we know the jacket on a President’s wife could very well be an endorsement for the designer and possibly could have been borrowed.  Mrs. Obama has been shown time and time again wearing modestly (as in real middle class clothing) priced clothing while I’m sure Ann Romney wouldn’t every consider shopping the places Mrs. Obama has.  There is one very BIG difference between a $900 ever day shirt and a $6800 jacket worn for the Queen of England. Slavery was a horrible thing, but if this country is so racist…..and the black community is so badly treated in the USA…..I think the US Government should buy a first class ticket on a flight to Africa for every single solitary person who wishes to return to their homeland to live.  I think it is horrible for people to be forced to live in a country they hate, and where they must remind others constantly about the slaves in their families who lived nearly 200 years ago, in order feel good about themselves.

Those who wish to go live in Africa, and help build that country into a great nation, should immediately be given the opportunity to do so. 
 
I realize that what I am saying might be taken wrongly, but all communities in this country need to either decide to be a part of the entire community, or just plain, be shown the opportunity to leave.  After all, the black community’s ancesters were sold into slavery by their own people 200 years ago, and that just isn’t fair to those in that community who are living today.  Surely, if they hate this country so much, they should be given every opportunity to correct what was done to their ancesters, 200 years ago. 

I think it should be put on the ballot in November!  We should vote on giving every single unhappy “African American,” a first class plane ticket, with all the trimmings, to go back to live in Africa.  I am absolutely sure that they will even be able to trace their ancestry to the very areas where their families lived 200 years ago.  I think it is only fair!

$990.00 for a TEE SHIRT!?!!! You people are out of your minds!! I pay maybe $12.00 for a tee shirt. I paid, for my nicest shirts $25.00 on sale.  Just seeing this ‘contoversey’ on facebook made me wonder AGAIN about the loose screws that are running this government. No WONDER this country is is such rediculous debt.

There are several sayings about ’ turning a sows ear into a silk purse’.. putting lipstick on a pig..pitbull…something, doesn’t change it from what it was originally. In regards to stillwild1111, I agree with you it is not racist!  It is a saying in a different language.  And I wish people would get educated in this country and quit with what they “want to be identified with.  The only true African-American, is someone born in Africa and has moved or their parents are American ( think US Bases)  These people are Black American.
