Look how far we’ve come: Glenn’s unexpected, emotional response to another ‘barrier’ broken

Get Glenn Live! On TheBlaze TV

Glenn didn’t see this one coming. Last night his son climbed into bed as he watched Mitt Romney deliver his acceptance speech to the delegates at the RNC he suddenly teared up – the gravity of the moment hit Glenn. America is such an amazing country and here is yet another example why – Glenn explains in today’s radio show!

American exceptionalism advancing at incredible pace anymore; anyone who wishes to pursue the dream of becoming President, irregardless of gender, race, ideology, faith and such can do so and hope and run for the highest office of the land.

May God bless the nation in the future under Romeny, may He show us the path and the light and guide us in this quest and journey to the future…

May He guide us into crafting each and every day, a more perfect union, as each of us seeks to be the exceptional person we can be; and thus make the nation even better as a whole.

  • landofaahs

Perhaps some day we will look at abortion in the same way; with regret and unbelief.

  • new2la

Glenn, you are not alone. Our brothers and sister in faith have suffered long enough….it’s time we take our great country back, out of the hands of those who want to do her harm. We need to reflect on our lives and remember how very lucky we are to live in such a land. A nation blessed by the Almighty; may He continue to bless us.

I am sorry I will not Vote for someone that gives a Good
powerful speech like the people that Voted for Obama.
     i will look at the
History of who that person is, like i did with Obama.
     i will look for someone
that has proven himself over and over again on what is the most important part
of the Job yes they even have to swear it in “The Oath of Office”, Yep The US Constitution.

have you looked up how many times Mitt Romney has spoken out against what is in
    the Constitution?
How many time he went against the bill of rights.
if you have not then you are no different then the people
    that Supported Obama.
this is why i will Vote Ron Paul.

Growing up I wanted to believe I could someday be president, but I am female. We are still waiting.

  • greywolfrs

You can. Just because the females we have had in the past were not good choices (Ferraro, Palin or Clinton), does not mean that it could not happen. It fact, if the right one were put up, it could easily happen.

  • http://twitter.com/paoligarcy Paolina Garcia

Ultimately, as long as we share our nation with Sodom (San Francisco) and Gomorrah (Hollywood), there is little hope for reversing the culture war.

Even at the GOP convention the social issues were basically put on the backburners but that is where the heart and soul of our nation is at stake. The Left is steaming ahead with their agenda of destroying the family, and the GOP has basically thrown up the white flag on those issues.

If you think Illinois, New York, and California will ever give up their dream of an atheist communist utopia, then you are sorely mistaken. Even a new Reagan could not pry them out of their commitment to redistribution and destruction of Christianity.

They MUST be allowed to fail, but we in the South should not be forced to stay in the same nation as them to suffer their economic problems. Bailouts for California and Illinois are already being done (by the federal reserve secretly rather than the federal government directly), and our Texan dollars are being drained to pay for socialism in the North.

I can’t help but feel all the good our churches do, and all the progress we make is undone every day by the constant bombardments of vice on our airwaves and television screens. Worse, a majority of the male members of our churches are addicted to pornography and our pastors almost NEVER speak out on this issue and when confronted half of the pastors themselves have this problem, and the other half are scared to lose members in controversy.

Conservative women seem isolated and alone in confronting the moral decay of America, and it simply can’t be achieved when most people believe the constitution somehow protects pornography as free speech. The founders wrote anti-obscenity laws, so it’s nonsense!

There is no hope as long as we live in the same nation as California and New York.

Just wanted to add a comment (to my Clint Eastwood one earlier).  Restoring Love was more of a positive Convention/Conference than the whole RNC event has been.   It was good.  But I felt more hope from Restoring love (as a viewer) than what politics alone seems to offer.   I’m content with the Romney/Ryan Team but subject to being held accountable.   I’m sure I’ll have to get one of those ST (Blank)U mute buttons for the Democratic Convention (and may not listen to any of it).   But the hope/prayer is that at least with a change of administrations in November America still has a chance to grow and learn from its mistakes.   I hope so.   Can’t imagine what would be worse than Obama but its possible… if we don’t get it right in the next four years.    Just appreciate the vision of Glenn and what is transpiring.  Glad its a work in progress.   Not wanting to be overtly critical of Glenn (just over Eastwood) but I appreciate the hope I get from this online network that none of the others offers in any way or form.   Thanks for all you and your staff do.

I never had anything against Mitt because he was a Mormon. I wouldn’t of even cared if he was a Atheist. As long as he loves this country and will get our economy growing and shrink Government  I don’t care what his religion is or is not.
    Go Mitt and Paul 2012

can you please give examples of what you are accusing Mitt Tomney of regarding the Constituion? I am not aware of such things. thanks.

Thank you, than, for keeping the Presidency in the hands of Obama for 4 more years.  Thank you for allowing Obama to utterly destroy this country in his 2nd term.

Me.  I’d rather have the best candidate for the job WHO CAN ACTUALLY GET ELECTED.  Ron Paul is UNELECTABLE thanks partly to his foreign policy but mostly thanks to paul bots such as yourself.  Romney, on the other hand, actually has a real shot of winning and handing the power back to the GOP.

  • Anonymous

Who’s accusing Ron Paul of anything?  A vote for Ron Paul is a vote against Romney.  ANY and ALL votes against Romney are votes FOR Obama.  If you are voting for Ron Paul, you are essentially voting for 4 more years of Obama.  That’s basic logic and common sense.

  • Anonymous

Why not?  It’s not a matter of if America will have her first female President.  It’s a matter of when.  I hope I live to see that day myself.  Personally, I think Rice would have been the perfect Republican Presidential candidate.  She would have courted the African American, female, and independent voters.  She’s the dream candidate for the GOP if only she would have decided a run in 2008.  As a man, I think a female President would do us some good.  It would definitely show some of them Muslim nations out there how women can run right beside the men.  If we really want to lead this world into a better tomorrow, why not lead by example.  That’s the kind of progress I can go for.  Liberals can take there idea of progress to the grave where they belong.  Me.  I choose rather to live in a world where progress does NOT come at the expense of what made America great to begin with, where ALL men, and by men I mean both men and women, are created equal and have inalienable rights, that among them are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.  I think progress is good.  So did our founding fathers.  But in our pursuit of progress, we can NEVER forget what made us good to begin with.  That is the problem that belongs to liberals.

Now, of course, Rice chose not to run.  Can’t blame her either.  She saw how the public tore into Bush, and she was an intelligent woman who decided it was better for her to avoid the worst of the insults.  This time around, Romney actually has a good shot to bring power back to the Grand Old Party.  And you know what.  I want that.  So yes, this time around I’ll root for Romney and, when the time comes, I’ll be holding my breath for America’s first female President, whomever that may be.  Hopefully, she’ll come from a conservative background.

  • Anonymous

I don’t believe his tears since I saw him tear up Clint Eastwood the way he did.  He knows how to turn them on and turn them off.  Everything “good” he has done was washed away when he talked about Clint the way he and Stu and Pat did.

You want to break a barrier, Glenn?  This one will be posed to you at some point if it hasn’t

already—put into office of the POTUS a woman who is both a lesbian and Jewish.  Three at

once.   Maybe it will happen sooner rather than later because of society’s feelings now on gay

marriage.                On a personal note—I never knew  FDR needed a wheelchair until years

after he had died.  No pictures of him in a wheelchair were ever released while he was alive.

And, Lord knows, the press would NEVER mention it.

I am going to be the wet blanket, I guess…  Glenn, when it comes to faith, you are on the wrong team.  Mormons are not Christians, they are a cult.  I know that is harsh, but it is the truth.  I know the history of Mormonism and I know how they have conveniently re-written their own history to cover up their history of polygamy and how racism played into their interpretation of the Creation.  The sad thing is that good people like Glenn (and friends of mine who are Mormon) are so unaware.  Glenn, I love your heart for America, but I do pray you come to know the real Jesus as your Savior and that the Bible is all you need, not the Bible plus the Book of Mormon.

The greatness of America comes from its Founders who agreed that the American Idea would be based on freedom of religion.  It is a dream that reiterates our right to review all that is worthwhile and choose what is best for ourselves and our families.  Often we are tempted to criticize or pass judgement on a faith we do not fully understand.  I suggest that truth is found everywhere, and the weight of truth requires that we are ‘truly” careful in our research and particularly aware of the reality around us.  Please consider that Glen and your Mormon friends are true Americans living the American concept developed by their American Founding Fathers.  This is the beauty of our citizenship and the power of the real spirit of the constitution.  Let us, together, pray for the truths of the Constitution to prevail.  Let us pray to be that American whose judgments are based on the laws that bring peace for all who live within our institution.

Cross burning? Why would I want to do that? Not only do I love that symbol of our Saviours sacrifice, my grandbaby and several relatives are black; I compare racism to pedophilia in it’s sickness. How could I hate someone who has blue eyes, or blond hair? Same as hating someone for the color of their skin. One grandchild has blond hair blue eyes, and another is hispanic. It is YOU, namecaller, who must pull the mote out of your eyes. My reality includes two daughters dying of a rare disease, and I have a homeless family living with me. My reality is giving a birthday party today to a girl who incidentally, is a black/hispanic mix, because she is 13 and has never had one, and her deadbeat dad wrote a bounced check for her to have a couple of friends over. I have raised 16 children, foster, step, homeless, and by birth.I don’t even have a bed, I sleep on the couch so that the family we took in have bedrooms.
And I”M the a**hole filled with hatred? I am the one with a warped sense of reality?
    Look in the mirror.

I like Glenn, without a doubt he is a true patriot which I have learned much from.
But this comparison is flat out wacky and insulting.

Our choice of religion is just that a “choice”. We are very blessed in this nation to have that choice but to compare this to a person’s race or gender is crazy.

To become this emotional over a personal choice of faith and compare it to the barrier of race is disgusting.

You sound like someone who didn’t grow up in the midst of fierce prejudices against who you are.  Does it matter why others diminish your prospects if they are wrong to do so?  Is it really so disgusting that Glenn points out the great and wonderful reality that people in America are capable of getting past bigotry regardless of the reason for it?

So what if race and religion are derived at in different ways? The improper responses from others, through the history of this nation, is the same.  Would you be so upset if he were saying this about a Jew or a Muslim? Aren’t those simply beliefs?  You might think those are really issues of race, but there is not a single race that was driven out of the United States with the blessing of the law the way the Mormons were. That one is a candidate for president is truly a BIG DEAL.

You are right again Glenn, America is all about opportunity.  It is unfortunate though, when a barrier is broken if a lousy legacy is left.  A stench, that people are then uncertain they would walk through that door again.  I am all about breaking through, but leave the legacy in tact for those who come after. We must be mindful for all of those who would come after otherwise, have we made it harder or even impossible, because we tried that people group before and it went really bad.  You would think the legacy would be protected as the job got done and that would be the best reason to do the best job…it will reflect on the future hopes of those you broke the ceiling for.  Shame some just can not see the forest through the trees.

    Obamas Negritude is killing America

  • Anonymous

Yes I would feel the same if the comments were being made about a Jew or a Muslim in the same context or comparison that Glenn made them in.

Glenn was never born a Mormon or a female as far as I know. He tells the story of how he, through due diligence with his wife chose to be a Mormon.

A person of any race or gender cannot change their mind next week. Please don’t you, Glenn or anyone elevate your personal choice of religion to be equal to the barriers of race or gender.

That being said I do not deny the sad truths of religious bigotry throughout our history. Try being an Irish Catholic in the mid nineteenth century where signs were posted “Irish Catholic need not apply”.
But none of this is equal to the horrors or suffering that the black race has had to endure. The comparison is disgusting.

  • Anonymous

Exactly. I’d hope more for someone like Condoleeza Rice. She may not be the perfect conservative woman, but she’d certainly be a much better choice than Hillary Clinton.

  • Anonymous

Nowhere did Glen say that the sufferings of religious minorities are equal to the sufferings of racial minorities or women. He said it’s an amazing fact that a Mormon can become president, which is absolutely true! It’s a testament to the fact that we are still breaking barriers as he said. Did you hear those numbers he pulled out? 3-5% wouldn’t vote for a black. 18% wouldn’t vote for a Mormon. That’s certainly a barrier broken.

We have a large history of religious discrimination in this country as well as gender and racial discrimination. Just because one “chooses” a religion doesn’t make their suffering any less. Religious minorities have suffered a lot in this country, Mormons just being one example. To state this fact doesn’t downplay the suffering of blacks or women at all. It illustrates how far our country has come, which is exactly what Glen was saying.

Maybe personal attack on the fact that you are being a bit of a jerk on these comment threads? You can criticize Glenn Beck all you want. People can criticize you all they want. When you tell people they should put on their white robes and get ready for a cross burning (something you’ve done a couple times on these comment threads) I think you should expect a couple people saying they feel sorry for you.

There are 20 year olds that never saw a black and white tv and never held a corded phone ,why is it that the young black say “when we were enslaved” they were never slaves, their anncesters were. You can not continue to fight  what happened in history. Are we suppose to hate all germans because of hitler or all italians because of mussolini? We live in the best country in the world, how many people risk their lives to come here (haitians, cubans etc. ) We will always be fighting if we live in the past. Lets turn the page and make a new history, one that does not keep us divided by the past.

  • Anonymous

Are you really serious? I was listening to Glenn on the radio during this segment. He absolutely implied the comparison.

He starts out telling the story of a black women and her daughter in 1960 than onto Condoleezza Rice and her struggles as a black women finally black fathers sitting with their sons during the election four years ago.
After these stories he gets emotional comparing these black fathers to himself and his son watching the RNC speech.

You are out of your mind if you think a black father and his son four years ago should be compared to Glenn and his son watching the RNC.

I find it very hard to believe Glenn has suffered such horrible discrimination in the last two or three years he made his “choice” that it drove him to speechless tears while he sat with his son.
I like the beginning of the segment, Glenn is absolutely correct but the comparison to being a Mormon has no place.

  • Guest

jaybowl, very well said I couldn’t agree with you more.

I never brought up the past in an attempt to compare it to my own personal circumstance, Glenn did. I disagree with his comparison they are not even in the same realm.

My only point is history is history and truth is truth. We cannot deny it or change it (unless you’re a twisted lib).
Let the healing begin, turn the page but it will only be accomplished through honesty by never forgetting or diminishing the truth of where we came from.

I believe there’s a difference between giving examples and making comparisons.  His whole segment was on how America is breaking barriers at an astronomical pace and he gave examples of two of those barriers being broken:  A black President and possibly a “Mormon” President.

I don’t think you would have such an issue with this segment unless you personally have problems with “Mormons” and can’t stand hearing one talk about their own experiences with persecution.

Jordon, you couldn’t be further from the truth.
I have no problems with Mormons, I have a very good close cousin who is a Mormon. Both of us were born and baptized Catholic. He converted after marriage along with myself. I however made a different choice but I thoroughly enjoy our lengthy Bible debates as I do with my neighbor who is a Jehovah Witness. I find that most people that convert take it very seriously and know their Bible. It makes it fun to actually have in depth conversations at this level.
We are all children of God who believe in Jesus, the son of God. Our battle is with satan. I do not have any judgement for my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ, I leave that for God he is judge. We stand on a rock which is solid, children of God are not “victims” we are “victorious”.
    >> You said “can’t stand hearing one talk about their own experiences with persecution.”
Do you really believe this? Do you really feel that Glenn or any other modern day Mormon has been so persecuted for that decision that it equals racism of the black man. You’re absolutely wrong if you do.
What is it with Mormons being so sensitive and feeling so persecuted? Where does this weakness come from? Certainly not from God.
    You know what real persecution is? What Jesus went through during his crucifixion, now that is persecution! And what did Christ teach us about that;
Luke 9:23 And he said to them all, if any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
First, your so-called persecution does not rise to this level nor the level of racism. And if it did as a child of God why would you fear it?
