Who knew? Romney hilarious in roast of himself, Obama at Al Smith Dinner

Get Glenn Live! On TheBlaze TV

Both Mitt Romney and Barack Obama were in attendance at the Al Smith Dinner and the big surprise of the night was Romney’s performance. Obama is always decent at these events and had several good self directed jabs, but Romney showed America he’s not as robotic as they might think.

Watch Romney’s roast below:

Below are some of his best jokes:

Romney: I was hoping that President Obama would bring Joe Biden along, because he’ll laugh at anything.

Romney: Usually when I get invited to gatherings like this, it’s just to be the designated driver.

Romney: We’re down to the final months of the president’s term.

Romney says Obama’s new campaign slogan is “you’re better off than you were four weeks ago.”

Romney: The president’s remarks tonight are brought to you by the letter O and the number 16 trillion.

Romney says headlines will say “polls show Obama leading from behind.”

Oh I wish someone would make a collection of the jokes and jabs Romney makes against Obama; they are priceless across the board…and often very true as well.

This performance should get Romney another 5 points in the polls.

What Romney did last night was to cement that he has a sense of humor, is likable, and can deal with jokes directed at him.   Very Presidential

and one needs to go back and listen to both speakers and listen carefully to the laughter that each got in response.

Seems Romney brought the house down and obozo got tepid response.

This was hilarious! I thought Mitt Romney really showed a Reaganist moment. His delivery and lines were priceless. I think he conferred with Dennis Miller, an addition to his team. And, a welcome one, I might add! Now people can see that this is truly a smart, principled, ethical leader who can relate to them with humor that’s tasteful. Go Mitt Romney! Heads up America!

Why would you think he was kidding Irina? Romney was poking fun at Obama and still made it funny. He was hilarious and so was O. Skin a little soft maybe? Surprised that Romney has a personality? Try getting off that kool-aid for awhile and you’ll have a much better day!!!

After everyone stops laughing about the roast lets look at some of the words Obama used, when he said that the soliders that were getting killed and wounded was “Optimal?” This is truily an IGNORANT President, I hate to use the man, referring  to Obama. The word OPTIMAL means:Favorable-Desirable- best? Obama thinks that, trhough him, the State Department think that is good to kill our children for the lousy UN war that we will never win, because there is a “NO WIN” Policy in this Country just kill off the cream of the crop of the best human beings in the United States for some pipe dream that will be peace in the world though a UN, there will never be peace as long as men govern anything, it’s all about money and power and those in charge don’t care who they have to kill to rule the world !!! This Traitor, Obama should be IMPEACHED for that statement alone. Obama just proved that he is on the side of the enemy, that means anyone who wants to kill American citizens is OK with him amd Clinton!!! WHERE IS THE COMMUNIST PRESS TO POINT THIS OUT!!! Hey Glenn where are you, why didn’t you pick this statement up?

I thought Romney’s delivery was almost like the late great Bob Hope. Very good. I have to say I laughed at Obama’s lines too.   Especially when he said he wished HE could use his middle name.

Romney just exudes President to me and would Boost the U.S.A. just by being in the
White House, and I think all he would have to do is to have a meeting with all the Big
Shots in the White House with some Honest Talk would restore this Country’s Credit
    Rating.

I am super impressed!!!  Romney performed beautifully, was hilarious with his jokes and jabs, but also came off as dignified and very presidential.  I didn’t know he could be so comfortable with this type of challenge.  And, he managed to get some of his message across also.  5+ star rating!

I am so proud of Romney taking on all of these Socialist Liberals. He and his family must be going through hell with the left media and all their lies trying to destroy a man who is, in my eyes, a hero for running against the “Joker’, the “Penguin”, and “Luther”. At this dinner, Romney  appeared to shine with the spirit of Ronald Reagan. I wasn’t the only one in the room that seen and felt that. Glen, you would make a good president as well. May God Bless you for being in our lives at this time when we need you and Romney the most. The 700 Club, as you know, has a “Pray for America” thing going on til Novembers Election Day. I have been praying since I first started watching your show in 2009 until your last show on the air. I recall that you and your family was threatened. You were right when you said “This is a case of Good vs Evil”.

Romney’s jokes were absolutely brilliant! I wonder if he wrote them himself, but even if he didn’t they were still right on. Obama’s stuff was really weak in comparison.

I can’t remember where I heard it, but I think Romney wrote his own remarks. It sure sounded like it when he delivered them. Remember that his family said he has a really good sense of humor. I think it is possible, however, that Dennis Miller joined the team just in time.:)

He also could have said “It is so nice to be able to speak with the president in the room and not be interrupted.” but what he said was great to hear.

  • http://www.facebook.com/lola.collins.5 Lola Collins

Mitt delivered that comedy routine so well.  He kept right up there with any REAL comedian.  His timing was perfect.  He wasn’t arrogant, as Obama was.  Romney came across with just the right amount of “humble”.  (I think I love him!!!).  He and Ann will be the best President and First Lady; she would be right up there with Laura Bush.  The Romney’s are gracious, sincere, kind, have common sense, and everything we need to bring this country back.

  • http://www.facebook.com/lola.collins.5 Lola Collins

NOW, that would make a good joke for Romney to tell.  Good one!

  • http://www.facebook.com/lola.collins.5 Lola Collins

Did you also notice when the camera aimed at Obama, he made sure he was taking a drink, in order to avoid laughing at Romney’s great jokes?  He did laugh some, but I could tell he wasn’t happy about it!!  I have made a habit of watching Obama—his eyes, tight jaws, looking down and blinking when he is lying.  I have learned so much about him without knowing all the details.  After watching their routines 3 times last night, Romney was still just as funny the 3rd time.  Most  routines start to sound “canned” if you hear them more than once.  Loved it!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/lola.collins.5 Lola Collins

I so agree with that.  Both Romney’s will be perfect for our country.  They will restore the confidence lost the last almost 4 years.  There is no comparison I can speak of on here.  Language I have for the Obama’s would be frowned on!!   Mitt and Ann  have class, and wonderful attitudes, plus so much more.

  • http://www.facebook.com/lola.collins.5 Lola Collins

Obama is so thin skinned, he probably was seething inside.  I did notice some of the facial expressions, and he had a hard time enjoying Romney’s  jokes.  Personally, I thought Romney was wonderfully funny.

  • http://www.facebook.com/lola.collins.5 Lola Collins

Obama came across pretty stiff, and I felt he was not too happy with the response to Ro mney.  He has a certain look when he’s not a happy guy.  I’ve been watching him for 4 years.  He did have some good lines, but his delivery didn’t compare.

  • http://www.facebook.com/lola.collins.5 Lola Collins

One thing I thought about when Obama was asked by Stewart about the “optimal”;  Obama may not know what optimal means, and faked the answer.  If that was the case, it’s no better, which would prove how dumb he really is.  His answers most of the time tell me how clueless he is, and how much he hates Christians, loves muslims, hates white people, hates what the USA stands for.  I could go on with hundreds more words, but this is enough to show what I think of Obama.  YES, he should be impeached for several reasons.  If Congress would get some spine and LISTEN to the people, something could get done.  Political Correctnes needs to go away, and the racists need to let us be America again.  Congress may be afraid of being called racist (they are anyway, so give them a good reason for it), so impeachment may never be approached.  Time is running our AMERICA!!!  Our country has not always been perfect, but it’s better than just about any other country.

  • http://www.facebook.com/lola.collins.5 Lola Collins

Did I catch some sarcasm in those words?  Whatever, his delivery was what  counted.  Obama’s writers were not quite as good, so what do you think of that?  Again, it was delivery.  Obama could have had funnier material, and his delivery would  have been the same.  He comes across as arrogant any time he tries to be funny

  • http://www.facebook.com/lola.collins.5 Lola Collins

Thank you for those words about Romney and Beck.  I felt the same way about Glenn Beck when he was on CNN; the day I “stumbled” across his program, wondering what he was doing on CNN!  I was a faithful “watcher”, and laughed and cried through many of his programs, feeling a little lost on his last day, thinking what will we do now?  He woke a lot of Americans up to the evil trying to take over the USA.  Romney has the same ability, to give us real hope to save us from Islam and socialism, or worse.   Please Pray On for the USA.

  • http://www.facebook.com/lola.collins.5 Lola Collins

Love that idea. Bill has become so full of himself, my husband walks out of the room.  Has become pompous.  Romney/Miller would make a good comedy team.  Romney/Ryan will make a great President/Vice President team.  I will be glad to put the capital letters back on President and First Lady when Mitt, Ann, and Paul and his bride are in the White House.  Have not done that since the Obama’s were in there!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/lola.collins.5 Lola Collins

Thank you Australia!  We needed that after the buffoon we’ve had here for too many years!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/lola.collins.5 Lola Collins

Obama may have reponded in kind, but only slightly.  I saw his expressions, and taking a drink to avoid laughing.  I’ve been watching him, and may have his body langauage “almost” figured out!!  The conclusion is that he is a man full of hate for anything American.   Romney is a man filled with compassion and intelligence AND common sense.

  • http://www.facebook.com/lola.collins.5 Lola Collins

How very nice of you to WELCOME the new President.  Do you remember the way we welcomed Obama into the presidency?  Funny, I don’t recall any of the same welcome as you would like to give Romney.  I recall hoping the FIRST BLACK PRESIDENT  would be one that could go down in history as one of the best!  He had every chance to do just that, but from the first it was obvious we wouldn’t  have that  hope fulfilled.  I thought we had come far from the hate which has plagued so many.  Maybe you don’t realize the WHITE people who are here today had nothing to do with the horrible treatment the blacks had in the “slave” days.  The same goes for the white people who are here today, they also had nothing to do with that.  Guess you also don’t know there are many people of all colors who have had bad treatment, and many of our MILITARY have endured the worst treatment, coming home injured physically and mentally, and will never recover fully.  Most of them would go back and do it all over again! I cry every time I see the wounded warriors, and think of what they gave up so SOME OF US CAN ACT STUPIDLY AND THREATEN the innocent people who have tried to make the best of what we have.  I worked for many years for what my family has achieved.  Not wealthy, but happy with what we have, and feel happy that we worked and earned what we have!!!    We earned every dime, and appreciate having a decent life.  Obama also had the chance to UNITE this country, but he chose to divide with his hate and lies.  He tried to convince us he had a simple life, but he had so much handed to him, and he abused the privilege.  SO, before you THREATEN the innocent people of this country, maybe  you need to do some serious soul searching….. ARE YOU BETTER OFF THAN YOU WERE BEFORE OBAMA BECAME PRESIDENT?  Well, I’m not, and look forward to someone who really cares about us, and isn’t using us just for the VOTES.  You have no idea Obama IS using you just for your VOTE!

  • http://www.facebook.com/lola.collins.5 Lola Collins

Good one!!  There was probably lots of things he could have said, but is too much of a gentleman!!  Well, I said it for him the night of the debate.  Obama’s ears should have been ringing!!

  • http://www.facebook.com/lola.collins.5 Lola Collins

Irina sounds like a bitter, delusional person to me.  Needs to do some research to find some facts.  I have preached RESEARCH till I”m just about exhausted.  Search the people Obama surrounds himself with, and more.  Very enlightening!  Different levels of tiers are not OPTIMAL!   Well, the top level might be.  I have been wondering if Obama knows what that word means, and just didn’t have the guts to let Stewart know this, so chose to make a fool of himself –AGAIN!

“Reagan was never this entertaining or as witty as Romney.” – Really? That doesn’t square with my memory. Taking nothing away from Mitt’s performance, which was indeed very good from beginning to end – it is wrong to elevate him above Reagan whom you may remember after being shot and meeting the doctors in the operating room was heard to ask, before being rendered unconscious for the operation, “I have just one question before you doctors operate. I hope you’re Republicans.” “There you go again” to Carter during one of their debates, is a classic to this day – as is “I don’t intend to make my opponents youth and inexperience an issue in this campaign” – to Walter Mondale during their first debate prior to Reagan’s landslide win of his second term. I could list hundreds like this. “never that entertaining…or witty” – you’re either too young to remember or simply didn’t like Reagan to begin with.

  • http://twitter.com/Snuffy_Joe Joe Snuffy

Mitt did an Excellent job.  Of course, Obama has nowhere to go with his comments because they were all true.  I am glad to see that Mitt’s numbers are improving,

I sure hope that Mitt brings some details of the Bengazzi attack with him  on the next debate.  Obama will say that HE knew nothing about these requests.  Of course, when the Prez does not attend the PDB, some might say he has deniability.  What does he call it when he fails to attend for purely Political reasons? Or a game of basket ball or golf?

Russia gave up Socialism for a very good reason.  After 70 years of experimenting with it, not to mention the millions of people that were murdered as a result of it, the Russians discovered that SOCIALISM SIMPLY DOESN’T WORK.  Imagine that.

Somebody needs to get the word out to the anchors at MSNBC, CBS, CNN, ABC and CBS. becase apparently, they didn’t get that news yet.

@goldivox: The case can be made regarding CMJ2′s enthusiastic comments on Romney’s very entertaining performance, to which CMJ2 is entitled – as well anyone might be. Still, methinks you overestimate their influence among president Reagan’s admirers. Fear not: no danger will befall Ronald Reagan’s sense of humor and his admirers will not sway irreparably.

  • Anonymous

Really, goldivox?  Since when was Reagan elevated to the stature of God?  No, I didn’t vote for him; No, I didn’t like him as an “actor;”  No, I didn’t like him as  Governor (who, by the way, led the destruction of CA and I say this because I lived in CA in the wake of his destructiveness); and, No, I didn’t think he ever graduated beyond a mediocre President.  Some folks liked him, and some folks didn’t–Reagan did not represent the be all, end all hero of the USA.  As for Romney–he is so far above the caliber of Reagan, there is no comparison.  Like Reagan all you want, you will never convince me that he held any greatness.

     Lola:
You are correct.  Obozo is very thin skinned and can’t stand to be criticized or made fun of.  He is arrogant and narcissistic.  He has the typical leftist trait of believing that he knows more than anyone else even though his performance has been terrible.  Have you seen how his supporters go insane when anyone criticizes him?  Like Oba-Mao, they can’t handle it when people disagree with them.

  • http://www.facebook.com/roger.behrens.7 Roger Behrens

Many people in the main stream press are biased toward Obama and won’t criticize him.  I was happy to see Romney make fun of Obama in a humorous manner without taking cheap shots.  Does anyone remember how Obama insulted the Bushs when they came to the White House for their portrait unveiling?  Romney disproved the far left mantra that he is a cold, unfeeling, and lacks emotion.

I have been offended by just about everything this man has done to We The People!

  • VindicatorX

Romney has a very sharp wit, and a dry delivery with the timing of a true comic. He also managed to be very decent, and factual at the same time – sometimes he was dead on in his speaking, yet still funny. It takes a superior intellectual mind to do what he did, someone who can think on his feet and is able to deliver what he means in precise terms. The main problem he seems to have is the sound biting/cherry picking that all the media is guilty of doing which paints him in a bad light – by design.

Mitt is much smarter than Obama and that is why they are afraid. Obama might be fun at a party, but he has proven on multiple occasions he is simply not up to the task of being President of the United States.

  • VindicatorX

    Rest assured, it will happen.

Irina makes a lot of nonsensical posts here, and I am sure that English isn’t her primary language. Sometimes her posts are too cryptic to make any sense at all or appear to even be in keeping with the subject.

That’s for sure! How could he hope to compare with a man who starts out his comments with “First, you have to start with abstaining from alcohol for 65 years…”

It’s as if they live in two completely different universes. There’s the one who is qualified and of the intellect and temperament to lead a nation out of difficult times, and then there’s the one who is Obama.

You got that right, artrbrown—which is why I am simply acknowledging your response pertaining to your ignorance.  At least you are honest in categorizing yourself.

Romney’s comedic routine was fantastic!!!  Romney is everything great that we were initally (and still being led to believe) told he wasn’t!!!  He an Ann will be so Presidential and they will bring civility back to America!!  The world will once again know which country is the leader of the free world.  Go Mitt!!!!!

@goldivox:disqus  now that is what a president is supposed to look and sound like. My last pay check was $9500 working 12 hours a week online. My sisters friend has been averaging 15k for months now and she works about 20 hours a week. I can’t believe how easy it was once I tried it out. This is what I do,..Goo.gl/KeH9A

OMG. That was sharper than sharp.

True, the need to move debates up earlier before any voting starts.

I thought the applause was rather reserved. Although maybe it was just the mic location. It was a little too sharp for the lefties.

Many of us knew what was coming. It wasn’t hard to figure out if you looked…. and media always said… “Nothing to see here”.. Frank Marshall Davis, Bill ayers.

Romney was funny. So full of truth. And gracious at the end.

He’s going to make an excellent President!

The difference between he and Reagan is startling…you are indeed correct. Reagan’s stuff was original; his comedy was thought provoking. Romney’s was written for him…..His delivery was great though.

Don’t kid yourself. Irina’s posts are deliberately confusing. She knows exactly what she’s writing and why.

He was probably scripted and forewarned not to laugh or show compliance.

Let’s hope people noticed. Remember, People hear and see what they choose to hear and see.

Typical liberal, full of BS and clichés. It’s long been my contention that you folks are either self-serving, ignorant, stupid or some combination thereof. Your comment has reinforced that contention.
You will not be able to respond to this because I have stuck something in your liberal mouth.
    Have a good day.

  • VindicatorX

You may be right… although I don’t see much point to being deliberately obtuse.

I also lived and worked in Ca for the AT&SF as a brakeman. You must have been 5 years old saying you lived there during that time to get you totally misconstrued the facts. Calif boomed during Reagan. The Santa Fe, and other businesses couldn’t keep up with the demand. People were coming into Calif like they are going to Texas, and S Dakota now. After two terms he left office, and in comes moonbeams dad. He blew the, I belieive half a billion dollars surplus Reagan left in 6 months, and the Ca big gov’t welfare state has been broke since. You are a typical lib who opens his mouth before the brain cells engage. Montana MIke

(2) I am responding so your nasty implication has not stopped me from speaking out.  The only self-serving, ignorant, stupid individual is apparently you—we have opposing points of view and just because you don’t like mine, tough buns.  And point your bs somewere else.

d6612…: No, I am not a liberal, never have been.  I do know what Reagan did to CA and I wasn’t “5 years old” either.  Glad I left when I did.  As I said, I didn’t like Reagan then, didn’t like him as President, and still don’t like him.  Nor did I care for his “acting.”  You can adore him all you want–but many disliked the man and they are not liberals.   Why can’t you simply accept the fact that there are differences of opinions that are just as valid as yours.  Seems to me you are shooting off at the mouth before your brain cells engage.

Looks like a gathering of the elite who know well enough in advance what the future will bring.

Maybe you didn’t have your volume high enough…It was very exhuberant!

Well cjm2 , there you go again. You hate Reagan, so anything he did you would say the opposite. I lived in Cali then and still do and I assure you it wasn’t Reagan who’s bought this once great state down. It was clearly progressive democrats and squishy republicans. Story not yet been written on romney so well have to wait on that. But Reagan was quite opposite of your portrayal. I from time to time come across reagan haters most are leftist progressives and the rest just didnt like him without any definitive reason or could articulate it coherantly. That’s ok cause you entitled to be wrong in the case of the Reagan legacy. I forgive you.

There you go again, millerco, attributing something to another just to soothe your own ego.  I never said I hated anyone, including Reagan.  I dislike him, period; that is a far different thing than hatred.  And yes he did cause the downfall of CA, whether you want to agree with me or not.  As for being a liberal–one could say the same for you.  I hold no liberal precepts, never have and never will, but you apparently do.  Go on and worship your little demigod like the obamites worship theirs–no man is worth being idolized to the degree Reagan and obammy are.  However, I do believe Romney is much better than Reagan ever hoped to be, but I sure don’t idolize him.

  • Bonnie Somer

one of the best lines romney delivered.  obama prob wondered what 16 T he meant.  I say tonight romney nds 2 go after obama abt Libya and the entire md east policy its horrid and b/c obama cares abt these people not us.

You’re in the zone CPM, but as to Dennis Miller???? Dennis Miller is the extreme in intellect humor. A person has to be up on current and not so current events, current & past commercials, celebrities with their success’ & failures and the list goes on. If someone isn’t an avid reader or able to keep pace with the fast paced global society, they will probably miss most the points Dennis brings out. In a nut shell , Miller’s humor is so intellectual, most the population fail to see it. Or to give another example. Have you ever watched MST 3000? It’s where two robots sit and watch a B-grade movie with a human. The writers (no fewer than 7) have such a vast array of exposed knowledge on topics as I’ve stated above, while hilarious, many many jokes and ad lib’s fly right over the heads of the viewers. Not for lack of humor on the part of the writers, but for lack of experience of the viewer.   In a 60′s hippie vernacular, ‘Deep’.
