James Bond represents a stereotype of our own nation: When push comes to shove, it is the one man or small hand count of people who, working together, make a difference for the better in the world.

Look at the SEAL team members who defied orders and rushed to save the rest of the embassy staff left to die by Obama: 30 people saved, and they must have known at some point (the SEALs) that despite every request for help, they would receive none – and they still fought on to save those people.

This is the greatness of America, our system of governance and way of life can bring out the worst and ugliest of people: yet it also brings out the greatest to confront that badness.

One person or small band of them can make a difference: look to the history of Gandhi in India; to Susan B Anthony called the ‘Black Moses’ who on her own efforts aided many slaves to become free; to the people who founded the nation, and those who ensured she became free and stayed free.

To those who turned the articles of Confederation on its head and discarded them to give us a true Republic and a Constitution; and the responsibility they gave us afterwards with the words of “we have given you a Republic; now it’s up to you to keep it.”

The order to “stand down” is an order to just lay down and die, they defied orders to save lives. There may not have been a direct order to not rescue the ambassador, but the direct order was, again, to stand down.
