MSNBC, the network who ranted and raved about Scooter Libby all day long. The network that claimed Bush lied and people died. The network that mentioned Halliburton many, many times for some reason or another. They have decided that there’s no foul play at all going on with the Petraeus scandal. It’s all on the up and up.

The below was posted on MSNBC.com:

Here’s a roundup of four Petraeus resignation conspiracy theories. Be warned: Many are downright silly.

1. He is trying to get out of testifying about Benghazi
Conservative talk radio host Laura Ingraham suggested Petraeus’ resignation is to get out of testifying about Benghazi. “COINCIDENCE?!” Ingraham tweeted. “Petraeus is set to testify NEXT week at a closed door session on Capitol Hill ab[ou]t Benghazi. Did [Obama] push him out? This stinks!”

2.  Obama totally knew about the affair before the election, and lied about it
Conservative website Breitbart.com’s Ben Shapiro is convinced the Petraeus affairdemonstrates the Obama administration “hid information vital to the American people” during the last days of the election.

The National Review’s Charles C.W. Cooke repeated the claim, saying “Politics is politics, but if this Petraeus stuff wasn’t known prior to the election, I”ll eat my shoes.”

3. Someone was trying to destroy Petraeus’ career

Wired’s Noah Shachtman tweeted, “I hate to say I told you so but…” On Nov. 1, Shachtman  took to Twitter to say “Wow. Someone is trying to end Dave Petraeus’ career” and linked to aWall Street Journal piece called “CIA Takes Heat for Role in Libya.” The story pointed out that Petraeus was missing from the ceremony honoring the four Americans killed in Benghazi.

4. He was being blackmailed.
Michael D. Shear of The New York Times notes that “Intelligence agencies are often concerned about the possibility that agents who engage in behavior [like having an affair] could be blackmailed for information.”  Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren says “Why did he go public? Blackmail? The woman still ‘friendly’ or did she turn on him?”

“Wacky Star Trek theories of theirs,” Pat joked.

Seriously, do any of those look too extreme to be considered the “wildest conspiracy theories” when it comes to the scandal?

Did President Obama know? “Of course, he knew about this,” Stu said.

“Those are your two choices. There is no inbetween. He is not the president of the United States. If no one is telling him until they make the decisions, if he’s really this uninformed, then he’s not the President of the United States. You have to ask the question who is the President of the United States? Who is running the show? And if he did know, then he’s lying to you and covering for something else because he’s telling you he didn’t know, which one,” Glenn said.

Stu pointed out there was only one week when Petraeus could resign and have it not affect the election and take place a time where he would not have to testify on Benghazi. “Shockingly he was fired during that week! When the election had already happened and all votes were cast and before he could testify.”

Glenn said, “He was also fired on the only day and any stupid people would say the president was busy. It was election day. And while all the press was busy on something else. So it lessened it and then you didn’t hear about it until what day? The day every news dumped. It was dumped on a Friday. It was dumped on a Friday. Isn’t that interesting? What a coincidence.”
