Take the poll: Are these guys Constitutionalists, Conservatives, or establishment Republicans?

Get Glenn Live! On TheBlaze TV

Today on radio, Glenn kicked off the show discussing where several Congressmen fell on the scale between anarchy and totalitarianism. Some, he argued fell close to the Constitution and believe that when push comes to shove they stand fast to what the Founders put on paper? Some he said would compromise on some issues, but still stood for conservative principles. And some are just members of the Republican establishment.

Where do you think these guys fall on that scale?

Interesting survey there, and I wonder how close to the truth I gauged each of them. I hope the results of the survey are published in short order after it is completed.

In the case of Obama. Pelosi and Reid the four choices would be:

    Extremists
    Radicals
    Racists
    Completely insane

How could you pick one category for those three?  You would need a fifth category – “All of the above”.

If you mean the Democrats you are correct.  For a real eye opening and serious read on Democrats, I suggest “Battle Cry of Freedom” by McPherson (before and through the Civil War).  Excellent history book that should shake even the hardest core Democrat.  The party of Racism isn’t a strong enough name. You have to remember that the Democrats didn’t change much until the 1960’s and it came as opportunism more than caring about race.  Into the 70’s against busing and still trying today to pass racist gun laws (look at Federal legislative and State histories all the way from 1860’s  through the 1970’s when they went underground).

Pretty simlistic view of history. The wing of the Demncratic Party that supported segregation and racism was called “the Dixiecrats”.  They pretty much left the GOP en mass during the Civil Rights Era in the ’60s when Richard Nixon swung the GOP’s position on Civil Rights to their liking,  Democratic politicians became GOP politicians all over the South, and blacks utterly deserted the GOP.  There is a reason 90% of blacks vote for the Democrats, I’m surprised you thing black people are so stupid they would belong to a party that you claim is raciakly biased towards them.

I really think you should get in contact with these congressmen as I believe there are in the Constitutionalist/Conservative category: Justin Amash (3-MI) and Thomas Massie (4-KY) first and foremost, both Rand Paul endorsed if I’m not mistaken. Also, Steve Stockman (36-TX) and Kerry Bentivolio (11-MI). All of these are very Constitutional candidates.

    • Anonymous

I agree with your suggestions – it would also be cool if Glenn could talk to Paul Broun (GA-10) who is running for Senate in Georgia and is definitely a Constitutionalist.

    • Tony Castronovo

Rand Paul voted yesterday to confirm Hagel as defense secretary. In my eyes he is a real disappoinment and now I consider him and untrusting RINO.

      • http://youtu.be/R7MC2wu49Cw Sam Fisher

What the hell. I wish I read that before I voted.

      • Anonymous

He’s going to be on Beck tomorrow to talk about it. In my humble opinion one vote to confirm some weirdo does not a RINO make. Rand has his reasons and will explain tomorrow on the radio show. Don’t get too excited yet. Rand is doing more for our freedoms than any other Senator I know.

      • Anonymous

And almost every other one of his votes over the last 2 years have been excellent. Rand made a bad mistake here, but he should be forgiven, providing he puts up a good fight against the Brennan nomination.

      • Anonymous

Do you even realize that Hagel is a republican with a reasonably conservative voting record?  Complaining about his appointment is tantamount to demanding that Obama appoint a hardcore leftist to the position, as that would certainly be his next choice.  The only reason most republicans voted against him is because Obama made the nomination.  This argument is nothing more than political theater, and you’re completely falling for it.

Besides, he has a history of non-interventionist rhetoric, which is right in line with Rand Paul’s stated beliefs.  The only thing people see as a sticking point is that he puts the US before Israel (he is a US politician, after all) which apparently makes him anti-semitic in some eyes.

        • http://www.facebook.com/andrew.frazer.35 Andrew Frazer

Hagel is the biggest RINO on the planet. It actually should be criminal for him pose as a republican. Look at his record if you don’t believe me.

  • http://www.facebook.com/vicki.martineau.14 Vicki Martineau

To get a truer result on the survey, need a “don’t know this person” category.  Otherwise, you force an answer that may be totally uninformed.

  • http://www.facebook.com/vicki.martineau.14 Vicki Martineau

Need a category of “don’t know this person” in the survey in order to get a true picture.  This forces an answer about someone that may not be known and therefore, an inaccurate label.

hmm… i kinda figured that the poll would include options other than the ones provided. a better poll in my opinion would be a scale of 1-10,  anarchist – statist. or even one that is anarchists, democratic (not the party), statist.

however, most of the above would most accurately labeled “corporatists” – with most politicians from both parties serving the corporate state.

LOL, conservatives closer to anarchy?  Give me a break.  While they may talk a good game when it comes to domestic fiscal matters, they are completely for centralized state-controlled military adventurism as well as coercive civil liberty violating policies set and enforced by the state.  Yeah, such crazy anarchists (absence of government).  Lefties are the flip side of this generally.  They talk a good game regarding civil liberties, but they are all for centralized state-controlled economic planning.  They even used to be anti-war, but Obama is an even bigger warmonger than Bush.

I’m sure Glenn got most of this from the book the 5000 Year Leap.  It’s a useful heuristic device, but only if the ideologies are located correctly on the spectrum.  Historically, classical liberals were on the very far left (like Bastiat), while conservatives (those who wanted to conserve or maintain existing political structure – monarchy, mercantilism, etc…) were on the far right.  The language began to change when the old school conservatives began adopting the language of the classical liberals in order to deceive, similar to what liberals/progressives have done most recently.

Murray Rothbard’s The Betrayal of the American Right is an insightful read that covers changes within the political right in the 20th century:

  • Vae Victis

Beck should have included himself in his poll.

A Conservative, among other things, believes in conserving the principles of the Constitution with all it’s limited enumerated powers. There are many who claim the title of a Conservative but are nothing of the sort, most of the names in Beck’s Conservative category are a joke. He hasn’t a clue of what he is talking about (which would explain his need for the poll).

Ron Paul and Penn Jillette are not Conservatives, Ron Paul believes in Voluntarism which is nothing but an anarchist’s dream of a Utopia. It is unachievable and creates more problems then what it claims to solve, in that aspect,  Voluntarism is no different than Marxism.

What is not shown on his blackboard is that the two political ends of the spectrum are connected into a circle because Anarchy (Chaos) leads to Tyranny (Authoritarianism) and vice-versa.  Not Good.

History has proven the wisdom of the US Constitution and the abuses it can endure. But as is evident, it cannot endure them forever. The best balance and defense against Chaos and Authoritarianism is the Constitution of the United States and the principles behind it.

‘When once a republic is corrupted, there is no possibility of remedying any of
the growing evils but by removing the corruption and restoring its lost
principles; every other correction is either useless or a new evil.’

It’s plane to see how we feel about these guys. Now Glen, keep a close eye on my man Vern Bochanan, from Florida. He does town halls and listens to the people. He seems like a great American to me, how about you guys?

  • greywolfrs

OK, first one must understand that your spectrum is wrong.

First, the far right wing concept is not anarchy, it’s Fascism. Fascism is a strong national pride, amoung other things.

Second, Communism/Socialism is the far left wing concept and is a collectivist idea. The opposite side of the coin to Fascism.

Both can be seen leading to Totalitarianism by different dictators, but are opposite ends of the spectrum.

Third, Anarchy is a complete LACK of government, therefore is neither right nor left.

Fourth, Libertarians are not for Anarchy. We understand that government has its place. The problem we have is an over-reaching government, such as the US government is NOW. We are for personal freedom, as the founders intended. No one is saying that one person’s personal freedom negates another person’s personal freedom, that is why we have laws. Let’s take the “drugs” issue, since you menioned it. Prohibition is not within the power of the Federal Government. The Constitution grants the Feds certain powers and that falls outside of those powers, therefore it is reserved for the states and people, respectively. Where Libertarians are not willing to compromise is on following the Constitution. We either DO follow it or not. One can not say that prohibition on pot  is wrong without realizing that ALL prohibition is wrong. One can not say that prohibition on alcohol is wrong without realizing that ALL prohibition is wrong. That is why you believe we are all or nothing on that subject.

As to where these guys fall on the political spectrum, I am sure that is debatable. In most cases, one can point out things that show them on the Conservative side, Republican side  and being RINOs. I will not take the poll because the choices are far too limited.

    • http://www.facebook.com/ed.johnstun Ed Johnstun

You could not be more wrong.  You need to watch agenda grinding america down http://vimeo.com/52009124.  The far left is  Communism/Socialism/Fascism/Democrat/all forms of Totalitarianism.  The far right is Anarchy.  The  Democrats were just left of center.  The Republicans were just right of center.  Now the Democrats have joined the far left and the Republicans ate just left of center.

      • greywolfrs

So, anarchy, which is a complete lack of government, is far right? As I stated before, you do not get to make up the definition of words to fit into your stupidity. Anarchy is neither left nor right, it is a COMPLETE LACK OF GOVERNMENT. Your little video doesn’t change the definition of the words…

        • http://www.facebook.com/ed.johnstun Ed Johnstun

Think about it.  If one end of the spectrum is total control the other end is no control.  It can not be total control at one end and a
different type of total control at the other end.  It is obvious that you received a liberal
lack of education at a public re-education center and drank all the Kool-Aid.

          • greywolfrs

Actually, looking at the definition of the words, not making up definitions tells one this. You are looking at things from a very narrow point of view. The spectrum should look like a diamond with a cross through the center, not a straight line. Fascism should be on the far right, socialism/communism should be on the far left, totalitarianism should be at the top and anarchy should be at the bottom.
Totalitarianism is absolute government control, therefore the opposite of that is anarchy. Socialism/Communism is a collectivist mentality, where Fascism touts individualism and a strong national pride.
It’s OK, keep thinking you know something and being stupid. That seems to be working great for you. Talk about lacking critical thinking skills, there you are.

          • http://www.facebook.com/ed.johnstun Ed Johnstun
