FL teen gets suspended for stopping gunman from killing classmate

Schools just aren’t making much sense these days. Banning kids for paper guns and Assault Pop Tarts, and now in Florida a teen has been suspended after heroic actions. A 16 year old stopped a gunman from shooting his classmate – for his heroism he was promptly suspended for three days.

ABC-7.com WZVN News for Fort Myers, Cape Coral

“Florida high school student wrestled a loaded gun away from another teen on a bus ride home this week and has been suspended. 16‑year‑old Cypress Lake High School student in Fort Myers, Florida ‑‑ Fort Myers is not an out‑of‑control area ‑‑ was told there was no doubt, no doubt that he saved a life after grappling for a loaded .22 revolver being aimed point blank at another student on Tuesday,” Glenn explained.

“Authorities confirmed the weapon indeed was loaded and the arrest report stated the suspect was pointing the gun directly at the other student and threatening to shoot him. That’s when the teen told the station he and other two, other two people tackled the suspect and wrestled the gun away. The next day all three were suspended.”

“The school’s referral slip said he was given an emergency suspension for being involved in an incident with a weapon. The kid was a hero! You know what it is? Wait for the frickin’ First Responders. That’s now what they’re teaching you: Wait for First Responders. You don’t have a right to do anything. Sit down, shut up, take it, you’ll like it,” Glenn said.

“I’m telling you right now, when, America? When? How much is too much? When are you going to take your kids out of school?”

“If you lose your kid, your kid becomes a fighter for the other side. A spiritual fighter for the other side. We’re not fighting principalities. We are fighting something much worse. It’s a battle for the soul. When are you going to pull your kids out of school? When are you going to find another way? I know that’s really hard, but I’m telling you there is nothing more important. When you’ve got a kid taking a gun ‑‑ this kid should be celebrated. This kid who’s wrestled the loaded gun away from a classmate to save another classmate should be made a hero in this country! With everything that is going on, here’s a kid who acted and acted properly, and you’re going to suspend him? Wow. Wake up, America. Stay with me. Stay with me. Don’t close your eyes. Don’t go to sleep.”

Good has become bad and bad has become good; the kid saves another from being shot and possibly killed and is made into a villain by the school. One more example of the madness that has seized our land.

It’s a well-known narrative that people are afraid to help an injured person for fear that they may be sued if the situation isn’t handled properly.  Due to the delicate nature of head and neck injuries you are supposed to leave a person where they are if they get hurt until the ambulance comes.  But if an injured person is in the middle of the road and a car is coming you have to quickly pull them away because they are better off with a discordant spinal column than DEAD.  When confronted with a dangerous situation, the last thing on your mind should be your own skin.  You know what?  I don’t care if I get sued or discredited.  I will help any human being who is in danger, including my enemy.  My accountability is to God and to human decency and I’d rather have my soul intact than save my own skin any day.

Once again, Glenn Beck is telling his audience half the truth.
The three boys are not being punished, they are being physically removed from a situation that may involve retaliation for stepping in.
This is one of the reasons for using an emergency suspension.  They will not be punished for missing class, notes or tests and will receive all needed work with plenty of time to make it up without a penalty.  Of course Glenn Beck will not tell the truth about the situation.
Once again, Glenn Beck is lying to his audience.

Tack this story onto the present story where a nurse refuses to assist perform CPR on a elderly lady  who later died of the heart attack.  The nurse was working under a company policy where they dial 911 and await “first responders”.  Just wait until the “first responders” are instructed to “prioritize” response.

The agenda is to regulate the people until they are paralyzed.

My God, my God!  When does the stupidity

“The three boys are not being punished, they are being physically removed from a situation that may involve retaliation for stepping in.”

I see, so your supposed “retaliation” magically dissolves after three days? Where is the praise for protecting a fellow student from a possible terminal threat?

Your argument lacks not only support by facts, but reason and logic. We understand ideology is more important then truth.

Anyway one chooses to look at it the three hero’s that intervened are being punished, of that there is no doubt.

I believe in this particular case, the school took a wise course in applying a temporary suspention to the ‘Let’s Roll’ students. My reasoning is…what about the possibility of retaliatory actions by potential ‘friends’ of the attacker to the resisting students if they immediately showed up in school the next day? Are the defending students in protective custody? What is the status of the criminal investigation by local authorities?-other scenarios exist but the point is: time has to be given to the school and the authorities to find out if there are others who need to be ‘watched’ before letting things resume to normal. These kids may still be heralded at a later date. let’s make sure they see that day. A rush to normalcy can be just as damaging as a rush to judgement since both are impulsive and too many assumptions are often made when decisions are implimented on short notice.

I did an internet search and found hundreds of hits that say exactly the same thing that Mr. Beck has said. Except for what you wrote here, I find NOTHING on the internet to back your account. The only account that mentions “fear of reprisal” says: “Fearing reprisals, the older boy refused to speak with police, prompting the suspension, according to his mother.” His suspension is because he refused to speak openly to the police – it is unclear whether his fear of reprisal is from the police or someone else.

I heard about that story and they played the 911 recording on the news.  It brought chills down my spine.  That nurse cared more about company policy than a person who is dying!  It’s so sick I can’t believe that happened in this country.  Is this what we are to expect under Obamatax?

  • Anonymous

Maybe they wanted to come back to school the next day.  You suspend a kid from school in order to punish them from WRONGDOING!  You don’t cater to the retaliatory threat posed by the friends of the kid who brandished the weapon.  If anything, you should find out who the kids are who might potentially retaliate and suspend THEM!  THEY would be a danger to all of the other students.  You don’t cater to someone just because they might hurt you for disagreeing with them.  This is why (at least before Obama came around) this country doesn’t negotiate with terrorists.

With the amount of flak Glenn receives I wouldn’t be shocked if Obama has an entire research staff dedicated to discrediting the Blaze.  They would consist of people working around the clock and coming up with nothing, all on America’s dime.  I remember watching his show once and he acknowledged that he wrongfully said that Van Jones was a convicted felon when in fact he had only served a brief jail sentence for a misdemeanor…or something along those lines.  He got on the air and was very apologetic to Jones and admitted to being wrong.  That’s the only time I’ve ever heard of Glenn being inaccurate.

If you look for The Truth in this story, you’ll find the reason that the kid got suspended, and it wasn’t for taking part in the incident. He got suspended for not cooperating with deputies and not telling the truth about what happened. All it took for me to find the truth (not the story Beck is passing off as THE TRUTH – he’s just selectively editing for his own ends) was to read the full story as linked.

    “The Truth Lives Here”?  Liar.

  • http://twitter.com/nutts2020 nutt

Beck’s own flimsy ‘research’ is good enough to discredit him. He even links the story that, if you took the time to actually read it, contradicts his headline. Were you minded, it’d take you 1 mouse-click and an understanding of the English language.

  • Brian Johnson

They don’t want to publicize the good side?

If they had given the kid a parade down Main Street in his
honor it wouldn’t have gotten near the publicity that suspending him did. The
event seems to be well publicized.

When someone is pointing a loaded gun at another person,
tackling them is not always the best course of action and it could be the very
thing that causes an accidental discharge. As usual Glenn’s reporting is slim
on details and it’s not entirely clear why the kid was suspended but it certainly
wasn’t some conspiracy by the evil nanny state to suppress goodwill.

Glenn’s always advising his listeners to take their kids out
of public school and home school them; however his average listener wouldn’t be
    qualified to teach kindergarten.

They want you to become completely reliant on “The Authorities” so you will then allow the authorities to do anything they want to you and you will accept it.  Then they will take you guns, because, you don’t need them, they will provide for you.  Just wait and see what they will then take from you.  Very very scary!

Those parents should take the kid on a vacation to where ever he wants to go during the suspension.  Tell the kid we approve of what you did and we are proud of you, we think that kind of action deserves reward

The only place I read about this is on Newsmax.com,the Blaze or from a conservative talk show host.  How many more would have been shot than the one if an AMERICAN HERO  had not stepped up to the rescue? Liberal media are included in the rich that Obama wants to tax more and have become almost the only source of information(?) that government will allow.  We will soon have only government controlled media.  The FCC is going after the conservative media who are the only ones to publicise the truth and such wonderful stories as this one.  There is so much good happening in this country that is hidden from our knowledge.

The real truth is the anti-gun zealots do not care one iota about the safety of you, me, children or anybody.  It is all about control and to some the ends justify the means.  The anti-gun agenda has been seriously ramped up since Obama was put back into office for another four years.  The reality is that historically governments worldwide have committed mass murder of millions, including children,  after first disarming the unsuspecting citizens.  Mao, Lenin, Stalin, Hitler and Pol Pot come readily to mind.  Why aren’t people fighting against this assault on our country and the assault on the children, the mind manipulating and indoctrinating taking place daily in our public so-called schools.  Perhaps because we have a whole generation now that has not learned our country’s history, founding documents or of the atrocities committed by governments against helpless people.

Glenn, the kids who got suspended for doing good weren’t having a regular suspension. It was an Emergancy Suspension because the prinipal needed to find out if they would get hurt or killed by the potential shooters friends if he had any. It’s just like if someone had to be in a federal Witness Protection program. But instead of having to move out of state and changing everything about their identity the hero kids took time off so the authorities could investigate the situation before letting them back into what coukld have been “harms way”

I think it’s clear how you would react in a situation like that.  In this case, the course of action, the tackling of the kid, WAS the best course of action and was done by this thing called INSTINCT.  This was publicized because of the inherent stupidity of the school district in question.  I’m sure you are going to tell me how stupid I am for saying this.  Thanks for telling me how every single person of faith is delusional on a different thread.  Your bigotry for Christians is quite evident.  If you want to say that Christians are delusional that’s fine.  Whatever helps you sleep at night.  It is of no concern to me.

What’s wrong with having a school liaison officer around the kid for the 3 days?  If there are some kids out there to avenge him they simply have to wait until the kid is back from his suspension and get him then.  They won’t pacify after three days.  If anything it gives them more time to plan their revenge strategy.  Whoever is plotting against him deserves to be suspended.

Bert, I never once mentioned Christians, when I say people
of faith I make no distinction between Christians, Hindus, Buddhist, Muslims or
people that worship Zeus and Apollo. Also, I’ll take back my charge that they’re
all delusional. People of faith will state that they know god exist and that
they know their god is the one true god. They need to admit that they are
really only pretending to have such knowledge because these are things that one
cannot possibly know (in the same way one knows that the sky is blue). If
unwilling to admit to only pretending to know that god exist then I say they
are obvious liars, unless they truly believe their own lies in which case they
    are delusional.

But without a doubt anybody who believes anything Glenn Beck

You mentioned people of faith and you knew which faith I had.  You disrespected Christians and all people of faith.  To be an atheist is to have a conviction that there is no God.  It’s an absolute statement to say that there is no God.  It’s an absolute statement to say that God exists.  It’s not an altruism to say that anyone of faith is delusional.  It’s also not an altruism to say that an atheist, or agnostic, or whatever you are, is delusional either.  I’m not trying to prove to you that God exists.  One thing I can say is that it is my OPINION (again, I won’t say that any personal conviction is an altruism, I know you won’t accept that) that you are completely bigoted to not only Christians but anyone of faith.  If you want to believe that I’m completely full of crap it does not matter to me.  The fact that you also have to disrespect my first name speaks volumes towards how rude of a human being you are.  By the way I was born Robert and my friends gave me the nickname Bert when I was ten years old.  I let is stick because I like the moniker.  If you want to like Ernie better that is fine by me.  He was more flamboyant and likable anyway, I accept.

    1. You need to research the reasons for removing students from school before assuming that it is always a punishment.
    2. You state that the “kids who might potentially retaliate” should be suspended, but you fail to mention that it would take an investigation and time to find out who these people were, while the students who disarmed the other are known already and can be removed from danger.

    2. Why are you ignoring the fact that a 15 yr old was able to obtain and threaten another student with a gun? Oh wait, that would reinforce the fact that there needs to be stricter gun laws!!!”

Wow, you are all over the place, using typical leftist attack the messenger, change the subject tactics.

Please use your brain, a 15 yr old cannot legally buy or  own a pistol, if you new that you would realize just how ignorant  your, ” there needs to be stricter gun laws!!!”” story is, wow! Brilliant!

I’m done with your trolling, I will not respond to anymore of your ignorant and name calling tactics. Turn off your bigotry, grow up and educate yourself, you are doing no one a service as you are.

    Good bye.

I apologize Bert, I didn’t mean to offend you. BTW although I am an atheist I deny the existence of god due to the lack of any evidence in support of the idea just as I deny the existence of unicorns. However as a rational person I would be willing to change my position in light of any new evidence that may be presented. I can imagine the kind of evidence that would cause me to change my position on the question of the existence of god, is there anything that could ever change yours?

Do you know the back story?
    No.
I didn’t say a 15 year old bought or owned a gun, but thanks for showing your hatred.
Thank you for showing your ignorant bigotry.
    Good riddance.

“Do you know the back story?
    No”

Do you? I have seen you make baseless statements here, none which you can back up with any facts.

NO good deed goes unpunished!!!   What a load of BS.  He should have pulled out his own “gun shaped Pop Tart” and disarmed him…. of course he STILL would have gotten a 3 day suspension….. This county is so screwed that it’s NOT funny but, nobody seems to care…. :o(

To your last post, (there was no reply option for me to click on) apology accepted.  Thank you.  No there is nothing on this entire earth that can shatter my faith.  Not even a gun to my head.

It does indeed. Glenn’s story is that the kid was suspended for tackling the kid with the gun. That isn’t true. I’ve pointed that out, the story backs me up. Glenn’s twisted the truth to suit his end. End of discussion. The fact that the kid didn’t cooperate with police IS an important detail, but besides the point I’m making.

I’ve been searching some media outlets for the notion that he was suspended for not answering questions from law enforcement. What I’m finding from about 3 or 4 sources is that the school’s official statement is that he was suspended for being involved in an altercation involving a weapon. Please cite your source on the interrogation angle because I can’t find it. I’m sure you have found such a source and I’m not doubting you. So let’s say that IS the reason he was suspended. If indeed it is, I have to reiterate this, why aren’t the official statements of the others being taken into account? I’m not doubting the accuracy of your claims here. I’m simply conjecturing that it’s flat out stupid that the kid is getting suspended at all. It’s punitive to him not only because he doesn’t deserve the suspension, but the stigma and narrative involved are a clear discouragement to students in the Cypress Lake school district towards taking proactive steps to protect others in the future. Again, please post a link or something, I want to know where you got the story that he isn’t cooperating with an investigation.

    Maybe this will help?

” The students, whose quick thinking likely saved a life, certainly
perceived an intent and did what they felt needed to be done. School
administrators, on the other hand, felt differently and promptly issued
an emergency suspension for each student involved.

Accused of being a part of an incident involving a weapon, the
school’s principal made use of a state law that “allows the principal to
suspend a student immediately pending a hearing,” a district source
    explained.

While it is technically true these three teens were involved in an
incident with a weapon, they were only involved to the extent that they
disarmed a potential threat. Punishing everyone involved sends an
    irrational and discouraging message.”

Nutt’s claim that he lied to a cop is not specious, but FALSE.  What a nutt

I LIVE in this area and didn’t hear about it and I watch the news every day. When a kid brought razor blades to school we sure as heck heard about it…………

Glenn Beck has reported the kind of behavior going on in ‘Islam towns’ inside the USA…

They are training their children… they are preparing… they are planning…

Will your children be ready? Homeschool or Church school your kids today.

Um, correct me if I am wrong, High school kids in that state don’t qualify for Concealed Carry permits ?
