Obama to Africa: “The planet will boil over” if you have access to air conditioning and big houses

Get Glenn Live! On TheBlaze TV

President Obama’s trip to Africa took another interesting turn with his announcement of a new energy initiative – Power Africa – that will seek to bring reliable energy to the continent. While the policy may be noble in theory, the president’s choice of words when introducing his plan was anything but.

Speaking at a town hall event in Johannesburg, South Africa on Saturday, President Obama claimed that “the planet will boil over” if everyone has access to air conditioning, automobiles, and big houses. That is, unless the world finds “new ways of producing energy.”

PRESIDENT OBAMA: Ultimately you think you about all the youth that everybody’s mentioned here in Africa, if everybody’s raising living standards to the point where everybody’s got a car, and everybody’s got air conditioning, and everybody’s got a big house the planet will boil over – unless we find new ways of producing energy. And tomorrow, or the next day when I visit Tanzania, I’m actually going to be going to a power plant to focus on electrification.

“There’s your key,” Pat asked. “The Tanzanian power plant is our key to world energy and tomorrow he’s going to figure that out? How about a guy so egomaniacal that he [says]… ‘We already have the market cornered on big homes and cars. Sorry. You’re out of luck until we figure this thing out in Tanzania.’ Come on.”

The speech is classic Obama – scolding ‘evil’ Americans for driving SUVs and having large homes. The elitist left in the U.S. eat this nonsense up as they fly around the world in their private planes, but given the audience for this particular speech, President Obama comes across as aloof, insensitive, and tone deaf.

“He’s saying [this] to people who are living in squalor, who are living in nothing,” Glenn said. “‘Pay no attention to the airplane the size of your neighborhood that’s sitting on the tarmac that we probably had to put down so we could land our stupid plane here. You can’t have a big house. Pay no attention to that big white house that I happen to live in.’ It is absolutely insane.”

“It’s embarrassing,” Pat continued. “It’s embarrassing for the president of the United States to stand with people who have nothing and tell them they can’t have anything either.”

Instead of telling the people of Africa that they should not have access to any of the amenities we enjoy in the United States, President Obama should have reminded the people of Africa who are living in poverty that they are not alone, and we are working hard to find new, innovative, and sustainable ways to improve their quality of life.

“Instead what [he] should be saying is: We’re working hard in America and the whole world is working hard because you see what we have and you might say, ‘I don’t agree with their lifestyle. I don’t agree with what they believe in, et cetera, et cetera. But I’d like to have air conditioning. I’d like to have a great job. I’d like to have a car. I’d like to have that.’ And that’s what our goal is,” Glenn explained. “Our goal is to find ways to create energy so we can all enjoy the splendor and the wonderment of today’s world.”

“Exactly right,” Pat added. “You’re talking to people who don’t have mosquito nets. Two million of them are dying every year because they don’t have mosquito nets, or they can’t use DDT. I mean, it’s unbelievable.”

Once again, these guys couldn’t sound more dumb.  Obama didn’t say Africans can’t have air conditioning.  He said new sources of energy are needed for the third world to enjoy the amounts of energy the developed world does. Obama is absolutely correct and the Chinese sure know it. The Chinese hugely invested in solar because they know renewables are needed for their population to enjoy higher levels of energy consumption.

I see Obama has been practicing his Voo-doo magic again and wound up channeling Al Gore in addition to smoking those magic cigarettes.

Honestly, what is it going to take to wake people up and show them his uttermost madness, he has nothing but absolute contempt and hatred for America. To him and the leftists, 200+ years of American greatness and achievement which has increased the wealth and prosperity of much of the world is ‘criminal,’ and for these ‘crimes’ the nation must perish.

    He is insane.

    Agreed.

I wonder if Obama has done this tour and speech simply to make the world hate the USA even more than ever before.

  • landofaahs

I bet the starving African’s really like that message.  It might even anger them to make a movie called “Obama, Out of Africa”.
The people of our church are supporting people in Africa with building churches and infra-structure not to mention food and clothing and here Obama is telling them they don’t need the good things in life that he seems so hooked on.  Obama is a wormy little maggot.

  • landofaahs

You bet they do and they are going after it.  But Obama is a Trojan horse muslime  using socialism to destroy America.

My old Kiwanis club used to have a program of building small community businesses where iodine-treated salt could be manufactured. It created jobs and helped their economy, and since the government was not involved, it worked.

Obama is once again determined to flaunt his being President, and thus make the people of the world loathe us even more.

  • landofaahs

Yea Obama and just like that other dumb congressman who was afraid an island would tip over due to people moving over to one side of the island.

Obama is as devoted to the religion of “Climate Change” as Hitler was devoted to blaming the worlds problems on Jews.  Good luck trying to use facts and logic to convince someone like this.  I’ve devoted an entire article to this very comparison…”Hope and ‘climate’ Change: Obama’s Sermon”  http://www.thepolipit.com/Obama_s_Sermon.html

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_4HAW7OERGSC7VZM72V7IGDJ3B4 Sharmane

Gotta love it when the global warming aka “climate change” scammers want to dictate what everyone else is doing.  Those who preach the global warming religion do not think it applies to them.  Al Gore, delusional and bloated, sucks up more power than my town in a year.  Then we have Obama jetting around constantly taking $100 million dollar vacations, living in a mega huge space, being driven around in energy sucking huge vehicles and we are supposed to take these people seriously?  It’s the same old saw, they want you to sacrifice but they certainly don’t plan to walk their talk.  What these types really want is to bring us down to third world status by their now debunked global warming nonsense, redistributing the wealth while they gleefully find the “solutions” to the non-existent problem raking in the dough in the back room. They disgust me.

  • landofaahs

Yep, Obama has a big house and AC.  Huge Jumbo jets at his disposal.  His carbon foot print just for his vacation jaunts has a hypocritical carbon footprint that out stomps anybody on the planet.  And everyone should be getting hot and boiling mad.

He pulls up in his caravan of 100 up-armored SUVs with the air conditioning keeping him at a cool 74 degrees, Obama exits the vehicle while 100 armed secret service agents protect his perimeter.  The perimeter is safe.  Agents have been in place for two weeks to check every possible position and angle. Obama struts up to the podium and bows down to diminish the super power image.   In his speech, he says “sacrifices have to be made” and “it’s hard”.  “But we’re going to redistribute $7 Billion of U.S. wealth, our people “didn’t build it” so they can’t keep it.”  After his speech, back into his air conditioned limo, back to his 5 Star, air conditioned hotel and lovely champaign dinner along with an entourage of 100 paid for by the American taxpayer.  In the morning, he man servant will wake him, dress him, serve him breakfast, and then he will leave in his up-armored limo, back to the airport to catch Air Force One, just one of many jumbo jets that are there for his benefit.  Upon arrival back in the U.S., he goes golfing but will make sure he has t.v. air time to tell the American people “I’m working hard for you”.

“President Obama claimed that “the planet will boil over” if everyone has access to air conditioning, automobiles, and big houses. That is, unless the world finds “new ways of producing energy.” Is that really the best thing to say to a continent that suffers from oppressive temperatures and widespread poverty?”

We’ve known for sixty years how to make electricity cheaply and without CO2 emission.  It’s called “nuclear power.”  We’ve known for fifty years how to consume the “waste” from the variety of nuclear reactors currently in service by turning it into electricity and much smaller volumes of relatively short-lived fission products: about 300 kilograms of material needing special custody for 300 years, instead of 20 tonnes of material needing 300,000 years of special custody, per gigawatt year. It’s called the Integral Fast Reactor.  Read about it in “Smarter Use of Nuclear Waste” in the December 2005 issue of Scientific American, which is available online.

Fission products are so benign compared to the transuranics (i.e., unused fuel) in current reactor waste, that it can safely be encased in concrete and dropped in the ocean.  There is perfectly good concrete, still intact, all over the Mediterranean, which the Romans poured more than 2000 years ago.

If the entire American economy were powered by electricity, about 1700 gigawatt-years would be needed per year.  That works out to 340 tonnes of fission products per year, or one gram (the weight of a dime) per American per year.  It would fit in fewer than 15 cement-mixer trucks, which is about the amount of concrete needed for the footing for one large windmill.

Into the bargain, by using the Integral Fast Reactor, there is enough uranium and thorium to power the entire world, at current consumption rates, for four million years.

Concerned about safety?  Engineers tried without success to destroy the prototype Integral Fast Reactor using the mechanism that damaged Three Mile Island (which injured nobody), and the one that destroyed Chernobyl (which the UN Chernobyl Forum says killed 56).  When the entire system was nearly completely demonstrated at industrial scale, John Kerry and President Clinton teamed up to kill it, at more cost than finishing it.  Clinton said “I know; it’s a symbol.”

Also read the middle part of “Prescription for the Planet” by Tom Blees.

At the present time, the cheapest electricity in California, and seven countries other than the United States, comes from nuclear reactors.  Solar Photovoltaic costs up to ten times as much.  Barbara Boxer, California’s other genius Senator, nearly broke her arm from patting herself on the back for shutting down the San Onofre nuclear power station, and then complained when Southern California Edison Company applied to the Public Utilities Commission for an 18% rate increase.

The narrow minded thinking of this group is astonishing.  Obama rightly made the point that new energy sources are needed to meet the demands of the developing world.  This is a fact.  Large developing nations like China are making huge investments in solar.  But the children on this show have more fun giggling over semantics than discussing where the third world’s energy will come from and how and when they will afford it.

    GLENN BECK,
I understand fully what Obama is doing.  I have known for the longest time that Obama wants a Revolution in the United States so that he can enact Martial Law.  Obama does not want just that. Obama wants a WORLD REVOLUTION so that he can control the entire world.  Get every-one stirred up, so that they can watch him living in the White House  while he throws crumbs to everyone.  This is the goal of Obama and Soros and the elitists above them:
    -  Control the world’s oil and other commodities,  gain sovereignty of each country in the mideast and in northern africa, control all of the world’s assets….and, of course, the people of the world.  They are stirring up the Mideast to have them go for the Caliphate…Jerusalem.
    -  Obama, knock it off, and return to America before I order carpenters to make the White House much, much smaller.  It is time for you, Obama and Soros, to realize that Americans have had enough of your stupidity.  No one died and made either one of you….God.  The United States belongs to the American people.

Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery.–Winston Churchill

That system and philosophy has never succeeded anywhere and least in the United States. Abhorrence of it is what used to make us the strongest, most prosperous nation on earth. Obama is entitled to his opinion that fossil fuels are bad for the earth (BTW, does anyone remember in 2011 when those so called climate scientists were in a tizzy because someone hacked their emails and found out that they were fudging the data to support “man-made” climate change, and showing that the “hockey stick” model for climate change was bogus?), and he can even recommend efforts in the US to “fight climate change”, but who are we to mess with someone else’s development like that. Telling an emerging third world country that they shouldn’t be able to have what we have until an alternative source of energy is found for them to use, but we’re using the energy sources Obama says they can’t. That’s hypocrisy.

I personally have no problem with “fossil” fuels. Stewardship of resources, not worship, people. An interesting point of view on fossil fuels has been proposed by some scientists to explain why fossil fuel sources, such as oil, seem to be replenishing or have significantly more in them than was thought (better drilling techniques aside). One scientific thought proposes that oil is produced from a chemical reaction over time, rather than the decay over “millions” of years by organic matter. Google things people, research them for yourselves, and don’t assume what we were “taught” is correct. Remember when we were taught in science class about the scientific process, and that a theory was something that could neither be proven nor disproven, but wasn’t necessarily a fact. That was back when there was some intellectual honesty in the scientific community.

Prior to President Theodore Roosevelt’s “talk softly but carry a big stick” policy with central/south America, when did we ever INTERFERE with foreign countries. We were effectively an isolationist country until then (BTW, Teddy was a progressive, a liberal, despite the R next to his name. You’ll find that D and R have been meaningless in our country for a long time).
Take for instance the Barbary pirates of North Africa, in the Mediterranean Sea. The Barbary pirates were extorting everyone who used that waterway rather than going around the cape of good hope in South Africa. President Thomas Jefferson did not declare that we were going to get rid of the Barbary pirates to “save the world” or “for the good of the world” or any such nonsense. He declared our war on the pirates because he didn’t want the US to continue to pay their extortion fees. It was for the benefit of America that we got rid of someone affecting us; it just so happened that the rest of Europe benefited.

He pushes his global warming deal for it is such a money maker for him. Just another way to part people from their money. All the proof he can’t do anything about it and it is not a problem but he thinks if he says it enough people will believe it. Like all liars they convince themselves more than others. The earth goes in cycles but that is over his head. God is in control of climate and we can’t change it. I wish I knew why our government is not doing their job. He should have been removed after murdering Americans in Benghazi with his stand down execution order to have no witness to his illegal weapon smuggling to muslim terrorist. He denied their request for protection and had only muslim guards at the embassy. obama knew they would not protect infidels from other muslim, therefore murder. Seal Team Six given up for execution for they knew truth he could not allow and then the Americans murder by his drones. I mean really???? We have a murderer in office for none of these were in a war. Is our government held hostage by intimidate or threats? I can’t believe they could all be bought off or go along with all the crazy this Indonesian is pulling against our laws and Constitution they are to uphold. Time to divorce this government and start over with fair tax to states and just cut money off to Washington and let it wither on the vine. We are America home of the brave and free. We are God loving, gun toting, law abiding righteous people who expect the same of our employees. I like my air conditioning, thank you. We must be wiser than the serpent. God Bless America.

No. In other words, according to YOUR cited article, the concept of the PEOPLE having NO recall ability of officials that they elect to the Federal Congress, began in the 1930′s, under FDR. Though he cites George Mason during the ratification of the initial Constitution, because the mechanism was not explicit like it was under the Articles of Confederation (which was authority of State Legislators only), the Bill of Rights addressed such concerns (vis-a-vis the 10th Amendment). George Washington himself, the president of the Constitutional Convention, even stated the the intent was for the PEOPLE to retain such rights. It was the opinion of people nearly 150 years later that the PEOPLE did not have such authority. Check the following article (which does advocate for limited recall power of the people) to see a quote from George Washington explicitly regarding recall.

    http://law.marquette.edu/facultyblog/2011/08/22/the-constitutional-right-of-recall/
    http://teachingamericanhistory.org/library/document/letter-to-bushrod-washington-2/

Also, see the developing argument before the Jersey Court, which does address some of the same point the lawyer did in your citation. Whether you agree with the court’s decision or not, the lawyer for recall addresses your lawyer’s points.

    http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Conservapedia:Recall_attempt_on_Robert_Menendez/NSCJ_Transcript

Here is the brief filed by the legal team who advocated recall.

    http://www.cldef.org/briefs/Menedez_amicus.pdf

Thus, there is authority for the People to recall their elected representatives in the Constitution, by way of the 10th Amendment, but since it has rarely been addressed for US elected reps, the powermongers right now don’t want to give up their seats to the “rabble”.
Notice that in the last 5-6 years many of them outright ignored their constituents when their constituents voiced what they wanted (such as during the Affordable Care Acts “debate”, when most of them wouldn’t even let their constituents into the townhall meetings).

Enjoy some of the framers’ thoughts on limited government.

Hold on a minute! I thought the whole reasoning behind carbon credits, was to bring the standard of living up? Is one also overlooking that 55 #American business men were taken along with him, to invest in their gas and oil resources. China, has made forty visits, so the energy must be very valuable to upcoming energy needs. There seems to be no concern about dirty, filthy oil energy, as long as it isn’t in America. Solar panels were around in Carter’s day. Wind has been used by ranchers for a century. These are non constant, and non reliable sources of energy. This govt requires corn to be turned into fuel, which is a greater pollunt than gas. Not to mention, it destroys, or shortens the life of a car’s engine! Meat, and food prices have risen because of this ignorant policy to use corn. Not to mention that it pushes food prices, and shortages, around the world. They are giving tax breaks for electric cars, while some can’t even afford electricity in the states! He makes statements and policies that are absurd! If he wants to be the leader of the new world order, he’d better get a better speech writer. But, it doesn’t appear to matter that his policy idea’s are harmful to the entire world, because the puppet masters have everything lined up already.

True China is burning coal, today. But its cities are becoming more inhabitable by the year. China is entering an environmental crisis. The third world listens to the developed world’s call for clean energy and thinks, hey, you had your dirty industrial revolution. It’s our turn. True, but the concentration of pollution and consumption of natural resources by populations orders of magnitude larger than ours is unsustainable in even the medium term. China knows this and has invested big time in solar and wind – about 60 billion in 2012 and growing every year. They’re being smart about looking ahead. You will see, US energy future will be a mix, but renewables will be a significant part of it, whether you like it or not.

The science of the Planet boiling over due to anthropogenic global warming is equal to the science of Guam capsizing due to overcrowding. There is no learned physicist who would back up that line of crap. I wish the press would confront even the biggest alarmists in the scientific community, such as NASA’s Dr James Hansen, as to whether there is any basis to Obama’s statement. He wouln’t attack such a ridiculous conjecture due to his own political leanings, but he won’t be able to mathematically support it. For the uninitiated in the world of mathematics, there is a correlation between Carbon Dioxide (CO2) concentration and the ability of the (perfectly dry without water vapor) air to retain heat. It’s a logarithmic correlation, however, which means a given incremental rise in temperature would be due to a multiplied concentration of CO2.

While the precise rate of fuel consumption of Air Force One is not
revealed to the public, a 747 burns about five gallons of fuel per mile.
Approximate distance as the crow flies in miles from Washington United States to Johannesburg  South Africa is over 8000 miles.
Doing the simple math, 40,000 gallons.

Air force one is big, comfortable, and is air conditioned.

That is an old stereotype. The Chinese have been sponsoring engineers at American universities for thirty years. Their industries are producing high tech products and they’re now innovating. The Chinese are educating more engineers than the US and have plenty of the worlds money to invest in innovation. Investors put their money where the innovation is. The disaster scenario for the US is that investor dollar shift toward India and China.

  • Anonymous

Yes, I did mean uninhabitable. You get the point. I have not used the word “moron” to describe who I’m responding to. Silverwolf extensively uses that word for which I have criticized him.

  • Anonymous

I see your point. I agree there is a premium associated with new technologies, which has been encouraged by incentives. Energy resource development is a national priority. The Federal government has a history of supporting energy development of all kinds. The oil industry enjoys $10 billion to $52 billion annually in subsidies. The Federal incentive for solar is a 30% tax credit. Renewabes are further incentivized by state and local municipalities and utility companies. The strategy to achieve economies of scale of renewables through federal incentives is paying off. Solar panels have dropped from $3 per watt several years ago to 60 cents per watt today. This is also due to Chinese investment in manufacturing. Those prices can now stand alone competitively in some markets. This creates more independence for people.

Obama’s vision of climate induced chaos involves having an overall plan to deal with the world’s population expectation of a basic standard of living. This plan requires a leveling of asset possession, redistribution of resources, mandated work careers, population control / reducton and resource rationing. i.e.: an imperfectly working form of “Agenda 21″ , “1984″, and “Brave New World” combined. The cult movie “Brazil” seems to fit that description. Personal opinion: pandemics, wars, resource shortages and natural disasters will have reduced the human population by about a third by 2050 through 2100 with a total world population at around 5 – 6 billion. Making sure that you, your family and progeny aren’t among those reduced should be paramount even if it means living in a underground shelters or rural areas among like minded people all of which are well armed, educated and have stockpiled tools and supplies, until the world resets. A very difficult thing to achieve for most people despite affluence.

apparently you need someone to explain why socialism has lasted for so long in the US. for most of us it’s just common sense how it lasted, but for you people, well non thinkers don’t really have common sense I guess.

Communism has piggy backed on Capitalism for so long, prime example…Social Security. People who put nothing or little into benefited the most, and those that put the most benefited the least.
If you honestly believe social security is a success, then you are the biggest idiot in the world. Nuff said.
You think social security is so great for only one reason. You and your communist, E-tard family have been living off the system for so long, you wouldn’t know how take care of yourselves.
Get a job you bumb. and I’m not watching you stupid video, I can only handle so much stupidity per day, and you have put me over my limit.

Wait, what now? Huh? HUH??? The president and his speechwriter really need to get together and figure out what continent or part of what continent he’s currently visiting so the speech can synch with where he is. Instead of finding ways to have alternate energy in Africa most of the country is already there. They have wind-up radio, computers and other things that usually take electricity. Their water and other forms of power come from people pushing handles or riding bicycles hooked up to power sources. Any TVs there are get used by the whole village at once like it was a movie screen or something. Seems America could learn a few things from Africa’s remote villages and towns. There are some cities like Johannesburg that are more British or American in the way they live but that’s hardly how most of the country lives.. It seems President Obama is just going around and doing the same speech to everyone regardless of how things really are. He can get away with doing that in most of the world but certainly not where he is now. Africa has extremes at both ends of the spectrum.

@Vacaman. You really should just go to the Social Security website. They state right there that and a lot of you are wrong SS won’t become insolvent, but the trust fund will be empty by 2033.  This will result in a 20 percent loss of benefits to all recipients unless Congress doesn’t make major changes to then fund.  So yes the Trust funds will run out of money, unless acted on by congress, but that’s 18 years from now.  NO benefits won’t stop, but they will be decreased by 20 percent and that decrease in payouts is going to hurt a lot of people.  Also just because we have SS doesn’t make the United States a socialist country.  The MONEY in the TRUST FUND is yours, you paid into it and it’s there for your retirement as an annuity, to be paid back to you so you have some income in your later years.  The big problems with the system come from the baby boom era which will flood the SS system with a large amount of dependents when they reach retirement age (65) That influx is projected around 2021 the last year the fund will have income exceeding it’s expenditures.  In the next 12 years 2021-2033 will be the biggest payout time line as the baby boomers will be in the midst of receiving their benefits.

If solar is as good as you say, they need no subsidy. Oil extraction and drilling etc. takes time and money. Our enemies use price drops to damage our domestic production until it ceases and then they jack up the prices. So you say cheap labor in China allows us to have solar panels but then the jobs that would be created here don’t count I guess. Don’t tell me there are no federal mandates. That’s not true. The mandates are mandated from the EPA.

  • landofaahs

With cheap labor. But then when you havew people on welfare and food stamps…suddenly the cost is not cheap.

I assure you, the EPA has no solar RPS mandates. Some states have the mandates. Look it up. China’s price advantage with solar panels is a result of its massive investment in automation and low cost labor. The US benefits from inexpensive panels. US Federal subsidy of panel production is a negligible fraction of what the Chinese have invested. The US economy also benefits from a resulting inverter equipment manufacturing, distribution, installation and service economy.

  • Anonymous

We lost our manufacturing base because of buying decisions. Let’s face it, patriotism is forgotten when Americans look at price tags. I don’t see many people refusing to buy products made in China, or Vietnam, or Indonesia. Wallmart’s doing just fine. We invited the world to join the global economy and Americans are happy to buy $400 flat panel TVs and lots of other cheap stuff. If Americans really cared about American jobs, they’d buy fewer more expensive products “Made in USA”. But they don’t. It’s our choice.

I have stated what you are ignorant of, EVERYTHING. It was “dumb M F er” and moron, which you clearly are. Now, back to the subject at hand, anyone who disagrees with Obamao’s point of view is narrow-minded, as you disagree with people on the other side of the aisle, but that is just debate to you. That is called hypocrisy.

  • greywolfrs

Then you were not listening to Libertarians, imagine that.

  • greywolfrs

Really? So, things like NAFTA have worked out great for this country, as manufacturing leaves in droves. As this country is becoming a “service oriented” country, that is good for the country? Again, you have no clue what you are talking about.

  • greywolfrs

He isn’t pushing the energy needs of the other countries, he is pushing “green energy.” Now, why is that? You are totally off base. You always seem to be off base, that is why you are ignorant.

“Everything” is so general to mean nothing. Your point will be taken if you’re able to be specific about what am I ignorant of in context of sources of energy needed to meet emerging demand. My comment about narrow mindedness was specific to people missing Obama’s point about emerging energy demands. No more broad than that.

  • Anonymous

Americans have decided to buy the cheap stuff instead of the more expensive Made in USA stuff, just like they did when the Japanese entered our market. If Americans really cared about their jobs, they’d chose American products. But they care more about price when it comes down to it. Wallmart is an American phenomenon.

  • Anonymous

Green energy is in our best interest because if the growing of massive energy demands relies solely on fossil fuels, prices will go through the roof. Now is the time to get smart about energy.

  • greywolfrs

You stated 2 million people, that is far less than 1% of the country. Yes, there are that many stupid people in the country and more.

  • greywolfrs

Except the part you missed, “green energy” is still expensive and inefficient. Solar panels are costly and don’t recoup the cost for a very LONG time. Same with wind turbines. Both break down regularly and are highly unreliable. The wind farm down in Palm Springs is a P O S. I know, because a good friend of mine works on those wind turbines. He says they are broken down at 50% of the time.

It is time to get smart about energy and realize that “green energy” is NOT the answer. It needs about another ten to twenty years to be a viable option. Until then, closing down coal plants and making natural gas plants so costly is the problem.

That is why you are ignorant…

  • greywolfrs

As I said, you were notlistening to Libertarians. We were objecting to GWB going to Africa and giving them billions. We were objecting to the Patriot Act. We objecting to a lot of things hw was doing. If you were not listening, that isn’t my problem.

  • greywolfrs

That is a lie, people buy what they can afford. Things like NAFTA made it so the other countries could produce those same goods for less money. Had the US government continued to charge tariffs on imported goods, the prices would be the same and people would buy American.

  • greywolfrs

Not really, I just replied to you about two things that you are off base on, which makes you ignorant.

  • Anonymous

OK, if you’re counting all people outside of the demographic that watches such shows. Compared to conservative shows, 2 million is quite good.

  • Anonymous

You can buy solar panels for 60 cents a watt. Average house uses 6000 watts. That’s $3600 for the panels. Add for the balance of the system and you have solar energy for around $15,000 that lasts for 25 years. That’s $50 per month. Sounds competitive to me.

More evidence exists for Jesus than for Julius. Even secular historians will admit this; not that the evidence for the existence of Julius Caesar isn’t compelling. It is more so for Jesus.
“Virtually all modern scholars of antiquity agree that Jesus existed, and most biblical scholars and classical historians see the theories of his non-existence as effectively refuted.[1][3][4][9][10][11] In antiquity, the existence of Jesus was never denied by those who opposed Christianity.[33][34] Robert E. Van Voorst states that the idea of the non-historicity of the existence of Jesus has always been controversial, and has consistently failed to convince virtually all scholars of many disciplines.[9] There is, however, widespread disagreement among scholars on the details of the life of Jesus mentioned in the gospel narratives, and the agreement on his existence does not include agreement on his divinity.[5][6][7][8]
Although a very small number of modern scholars argue that Jesus never existed, that view is a distinct minority and virtually all scholars consider theories that Jesus’ existence was a Christian invention as implausible.[8][30] Christopher Tuckett states that the existence of Jesus and his crucifixion by Pontius Pilate seem to be part of the bedrock of historical tradition, based on the availability of non-Christian evidence.[30] Graham Stanton states that “Today nearly all historians, whether Christians or not, accept that Jesus existed”.[11]
A number of ancient non-Christian documents, such as Jewish and Greco-Roman sources, have been used in historical analyses of the existence of Jesus.[35] These include the works of 1st century Roman historians Josephus and Tacitus.[35][36] Josephus scholar Louis H. Feldman has stated that “few have doubted the genuineness” of Josephus’ reference to Jesus in Antiquities 20, 9, 1 and it is only disputed by a small number of scholars.[37][38][39][40] Bart D. Ehrman states that the existence of Jesus and his crucifixion by the Romans is attested to by a wide range of sources, including Josephus and Tacitus.[41]”

They don’t have to. The federal govt. refused a permit for a coal fired electric plant in western Kansas. Just refuse any source you don’t like and leave them no choice but foolish sources like solar when the sun may not shine for 14 days straight. I saw almost a month go by without sunshine. The wind can go for days without blowing. Are you O.K. with days without electricity you idiot?

  • Anonymous

Sweetheart the evidence for jesus having lived is very shabby and wouldn’t hold up in any court, as your evidence proved.  The fact that you made the statement “Virtually all modern scholars of antiquity agree that jesus existed”  demonstrates you can’t prove what your saying.  If they agree that jesus existed there must be plenty of proof, but you post un-provable bullshit.  Come back when you have conclusive evidence like a census report, or tax records.  Where are they?  All you have is heresay and innuendo and bullshit.  But that seems to be good enough for you, isn’t that sad?

  • Anonymous

So what about Julius Caesar? You already admitted that you had proof for his existence. I listed the same kind of proof that one would use to prove the historicity of Julius Caesar. I also used secular historians so you couldn’t accuse me of bias ( not that I care or that I naively thought that would stop someone of your intellectual dishonesty).  l listed the sources and they are provable. What this means is that you are a flake with a moral dilemma. If I was you I wouldn’t worry as much about Global warming as I would about eternal warming. Gonna’ be hot where you’re headed!

  • Anonymous

You said I’m gonna be headed for a place with eternal warming, didn’t you?  So I take that to mean you believe in hell?  Am I right?  So you believe in things that you can’t prove, like god and hell.  And you dismiss what has been proven by 97% of the climate scientists about AGW.  You live in a fantasy world, babe.  I’ll be right back, time to feed my leprechauns.  Wanna watch?  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4e8pKzXzH4A

  • Anonymous

You changed the subject and fragmented you’re argument. First you wrongly claimed the EPA sets solar mandates. It does not. Now you switch to the government denied a coal plant. You failed to mention that it was the state of Kansas that denied two coal plants in western Kansas, not the fed. And, by the way, I have solar electric and thermal. It produces plenty of power on cloudy days. About 80% of the year my system produces more power than I use. Installed it myself for about $12,000. Electric costs keep climbing here, but mine will remain near zero for 23 more years. I spend about $200 a month in gas, so I’m adding more panels to a garage for a used Prius converted to a plugin hypbrid. I’ll save about $350 per month in electric and gas costs. And I’ll be more independent of utility rate hikes and Opec. Who’s the idiot?

  • landofaahs

No I don’t change the subject. I clarify for dummies like you. The EPA has onerous ridiculous rules designed to hamstring the energy plants not in favor by earth worshipping environmentalists. The govt has many hands to work all sides. The EPA does their part and other agencies do their part to bring about the destruction of cheap energy in America.
Now what federal restrictions and lawsuits and threats thereof were done to make the proposidtion of coal fired plants too expensive? I quote your little Obama dictator. You can go ahead and have your coal fired power plant, it’s just that we will make it so expensive that it will go broke. There you piece of crap tree hugging Obama boot licker. I hope youy go broke keeping yourself warm and cool because ypou deserve it.

  • Anonymous

You changed again. Now we’re not talking about the Kansas plants the state blocked, but we’re talking about general EPA regulations. Remember acid rain? EPA fixed that. Remember dangerous radiation was reaching the earth through holes we created in the ozone layer. EPA fixed that. Remember American rivers were so polluted that it caused massive fish kills and now PCBs lie at the bottom. EPA put an end to dumping toxins in rivers. While egregious regulations get debated, the country will continue to improve dragging you with it. There is a cost to having a healthy environment to live in, but you put no value on it. Fortunately, more Americans want it than don’t. You pollution lovers can move to China where there is no Clean Air Act and they can barely breath.

Reagan and HW Bush minimized barriers to global trade. Republicans lead the charge because they believed it would create greater opportunity for American firms and lower prices for consumers, and it has. Some of the worlds largest multinationals are American firms. Labor unions came out against these policies rightly arguing it would cost American jobs, and it has. Both are right. The ONLY way to win the global competitive fight is to educate and innovate. The low level jobs will go where cheap labor is and the higher skilled jobs will stay here. Sadly, not as many Americans are studying science and engineering as Indians and Chinese are.

I provide the same type of evidence for the historical existence of Jesus as one would use for Caesar. Through R&D in builidng and patenting a new type of internal combustion engine we have found that not only can oxygen be used to burn all the fuel but carbon dioxide can be used as a power source to generate electricity 24-7, at very little cost per kwh.  One would think the world would be beating a path to our door or the government would support us through grants, not so, we don’t have the money to contribute to their campaign funds so we are ignored.  We use CO2 we do not pollute, with this invention the Africans could have many things we take for granted, with this technology the Average American could have affordable electric independent of the power companies, they could also retrofit the engine inot their vehicles, on or off the road getting a projected 100 mpg’s.  so we continue to struggle to complete our work and get this out to the public,  just saying    cheers

  • greywolfrs

Those panels do NOT last for 25 years, that is a lie. They are only lasting for an average of 6-8, depending on who made them. There are plenty of things you forgot in your calculations too. First, the wear and tear on the roof of your house. You think putting those on the roof is a good thing? Second, for being so clean, you forgot about the pollution created to make those panels. Third, are you buying a battery system to store any of theat energy? If you are, look at how much pollution is created to make the batteries and how much it costs to buy the batteries. Not to mention, the space for those batteries. Fourth, if you are being charged 60 cents per watt, you are being ripped off. I only pay about 38 cents per watt. I am not sure where you are getting your information, but it is wrong.

  • greywolfrs

Except you are wrong again. You believe that manufacturing is “low-skill?” Maybe some of it is, but no where near all of it. I said nothing about Republicans or Democraps, as both sides have screwed American workers. GHWB started the NAFTA process and William “the Zipper” finished it. There are plenty of Americans who are studying science and engineering, the problem is the jobs are NOT here. Those people get degrees and can’t find a job. Now, why is that?

On another note, the unions were part of the problem. They protect lazy people and demand wages that are unsustainable, for low-skill workers. Minimum wage is another problem. The higher minimum wage goes, the more inflation it creates. When a company has to pay a “no-skill” worker a high amount, the cost of business goes UP. That is directly reflected in the prices of EVERYTHING. Those are more reasons why American products cost more than products made over seas. NAFTA and free trade agreements were just the nail in the American workers coffin.

The panels are guaranteed by the manufacture with both a 10-year nameplate wattage, and a 25-year linear output expected degradation. There is no wear and tear on the roof. If anything it’s another layer of protection on the roof. OK, there’s pollution to manufacturing the panels, but there’s significant energy loss in conventional power transmission. There’s no way to compare them. No batteries are involved. The system uses net metering, i.e. the meter spins backward during the day and forward at night. The net is what matters. You’re not comparing prices correctly. Watts are a unit of power. Kilowatt-hours are units of energy. Utility rates are in kWh. If you’re getting charged 38 cents per kWh, you’re getting ripped off. The national average is about 12 cents. The northeast and California pay up to 33.22 cents per kWh. I know this because I’ve bought the systems and made the economic analysis for myself.

I consider low skill making furniture, textiles, cloths, assembly work, etc. Job skills needs have changed significantly in this country. You’re wrong about students in engineering a science. I have a Masters in Engineering, went to two schools and two thirds of my classmates were Indian, Chinese and Indonesian. There’s a shortage of skilled engineers. We’re hiring foreigners to fill the positions because our workforce isn’t educated enough. We’re in a sad state compared to some countries. I totally agree about unions. They’re an institution for the lazy. That’s not the reason American products cost more. They cost more because they’re competing with labor rates that are well below US minimum wage.

I am scratching my head wondering.. Have these people no way to help themselves?  I remember back in the mid sixties, we rebuilt Johannesburg and when we finished we were told to leave.  It wasn’t but a few years later, they had bigger problems than before.. They had no idea how to repair the buildings, and blamed us for all that was falling apart. The sewer systems were a mess.. There comes a time people do have to get off their lazy asses and do something to help themselves.. Uh, we have these same problems here, lazy asses that won’t help themselves.. People of all color I might add.
I wish obama would go there to live and help his people.. They all want the money off of our backs.. This has got to stop. I am all for helping someone but not one that will do nothing to help his self.
As far back as I can remember, we have been sending billions and nothing gets done.. The other issue, they are still hungry.. The only ones that seem to benefit are the ones in power.
    Seems familiar, huh?

Took me less than 30 seconds to find it.  If you’d actually learn to use a search engine you could have found it too.

OK, I know how energy is calculated, bought and sold.
I know how the system works, it produces during the day, I.E. “solar,” which you basically “sell” the extra energy to whomever your Electric company is and at night you basically take it back. In my other post, I was speaking about the battery system, because some people like to have some stored energy, in case of power outages and such. If you truly think there is no wear and tear on your roof, that is your opinion. Since your roof was never designed to have that extra weight on it, that would produce wear and tear, I was not talking about the shingles themselves.
You are only going to get 25 years out of the panels, if the company does not go out of business. Since over 50 of theose companies have gone out of business, just since Obamao took office, that does not inspire a lot confidence.

In the end, if you feel that is what is best for you, good for you. I have also done the math and it is not worth it.

OK, you believe that your school and classes are a perfect example of ALL schools? Sorry that is NOT true. Unions and minimum wage are BIG reasons why American products can not compete. They artificially raise wages. You just proved my point, wages in other countries are FAR below our minimum wage, therefore, American companies can not sell products for the same price.

So you’re against paying an American worker $7.25 / hour? Well, to be competitive, you’d have to pay Americans $7 a day or less. I don’t think companies would get many applicants.

My experience with foreigners in engineering is similar to many of my colleagues who experienced the same thing in their engineering schools. According to the Census Bureau, more than twice the amount of engineering degrees were achieved by foreigners than Americans in American schools. Pratt School of Engineering study found China is graduating five times the engineers we are. The fight for low skill jobs is over. The competition for the future is innovation, and China’s about to come on the scene with the way they’re investing in education. Again, the real disaster scenario for the US Economy is when investors decide to put their money in places other than the US if we don’t stay ahead in innovation.

The structure is determined by a Professional Engineer to be capable of handling the load. It’s not a dynamic load, so there’s no concern about wearing anything out. The system cost me about $15,000. I got a 30% federal tax credit plus additional state credits, so it only actually cost me about $8000. I know of a utility company that has installed over 3000 homes using the modules I chose, so I’m pretty confident they’re good quality.
