Yesterday on CNN’s Crossfire, Van Jones asked South Carolina Senator Tim Scott (R-SC) if he would be supporting the reelection efforts of fellow South Carolinian Lindsey Graham, but it was the way in which Jones phrased the question that had Glenn, Pat, and Stu confused.
JONES: He just mentioned Lindsey Graham – the great Lindsey gram. Are you supporting him for reelection?
“Say you want to deny the facts that Van Jones is a violent revolutionary, communist revolutionary that started one of the nastiest organizations: STORM. Say you want to deny all that and say he’s just a progressive,” Glenn said. “Why would he be calling Lindsey Graham ‘the great Lindsey Graham’? He really wants to know: Are you going to support him? You’re a freak if you’re not supporting him. That’s basically the point of the question.”
As telling as Jones’ characterization of Sen. Graham is, Sen. Scott’s avoidance of given a direct yes or no answer is equally telling.
SCOTT: You know, as you three have heard recently, I am up for re — up for reelection next year myself. I’m going to make sure that Tim Scott gets out… and I will allow for all the other folks on the ballot to represent themselves very well. I’m going to continue to work hard for my election.
JONES: No endorsement for Lindsey tonight?
SCOTT: I’m certainly going to work really hard for Tim Scott’s reelection… Got to win first.
“Thank you, Tim Scott,” Pat said.
