Rep. Steve King sounds off on over-regulation, immigration, Obamacare, and more

On radio this morning, Glenn was joined by Congressman Steve King (R-IA) to discuss what is currently going on in Congress. From Obamacare to immigration, the Middle East to the 2014 midterms, Rep. King gave his thoughts on some of the biggest issues facing our country.

To start, Glenn asked Rep. King to explain the work he is doing to curb overregulation. Yesterday, Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) released an eye-opening photo that demonstrated in a very tangible way just how bloated our government has become:

“Behold my display of the 2013 Federal Register,” Lee wrote in the Facebook description. “It contains over 80,000 pages of new rules, regulations, and notices all written and passed by unelected bureaucrats. The small stack of papers on top of the display are the laws passed by elected members of Congress and signed into law by the president.”

“We are so overregulated now, Steve, it is beyond comprehension,” Glenn said. “We don’t need a do-nothing Congress anymore because the Administration has taken to regulation like nobody’s business.”

“I have long been making an issue out of regulations,” Rep. King said. “And we passed legislation out of the House a year or two ago called the REINS Act that requires any regulation that has more than a $100 million impact, before it could have the force and effect of real law, it has to come back before the Congress for affirmative vote. I have supported that.”

“But it wasn’t good enough for me. I have a bill that sunsets all regulation,” he continued. “The agencies have to choose those regulations, offer them to Congress, and if they are not reauthorized, if they are not voted with an affirmative vote out of the House and Senate, they expire. Its sunsets all regulations over a 10-year period of time. All these regulations are designed to give an agency the responsibility of Congress because Congress didn’t want to have the heat for those rules.”

When it comes to the hot-topic that is immigration reform, Rep. King believes the urgency of the conversation has slowed somewhat, but he is fearful of what the coming months could bring.

“Last week John Boehner talked about bringing out his immigration principles… Why not just bring them out? So to me that says he’s not yet decided what he wants to try… I’m concerned that they will try to set up a stampede and try to get the members to get behind some form of immigration change,” Rep. King explained. “There’s nothing they can move through the House of Representatives without border security. [And nothing has] any chance of getting to the President’s desk for a signature without amnesty also attached. So therefore, we need to sit back and tell the President: You created Obamacare, so why don’t you spend any talents you have trying to fix that monstrosity and leave immigration to someone that actually respects the rule of law?”

It is because of all those regulations why people still cannot find work.

Until congress defunds all the unelected agencies, making congress irrelevant… nothing will change. I keep asking my congressman to start the process with his guys in South Carolina, but they won’t do it. That should tell you all you need to know.

It is unbelievable what is happening in this country. Overregulation and immigration reform will be the next nail into this country’s coffin. Why would anyone in his or her right mind add to the glut of unemployed in this nation? In the end, these illegal aliens would qualify for huge benefits. By braking our laws they get rewarded on top of it, adding to the national debt our grandchildren will be responsible for.

It is totally sad what is happening in the US. Lies, deceptions, overregulation, the health-care debacle, legalizing recreational drugs, dumbing down of our
children, the news agencies nothing more than a mouth-piece for this administration and the list goes on and on. How sad to watch without the power to change things around!

The States have the right to pass the laws they deem fit for their State, don’t have a problem with the States legalizing pot or anything else… its their State, just keep the Federal Government out of our business.

i sent glenn emails and to his tip line about the video he showed numerous times while at fox when then senator obama was talking to a group of his supporters during his presidential campaign when he was asked what he thought of single payer obama answered ” i am for single payer but the people don’t want it so we are going to have to sneak it passed them. ” now would be a great time to bring the video back and have conservative and libertarian candidates use it for campaign ads, interviews etc,… with the backlash over obamacare getting stronger even by democrat voters it can be used to show how corrupt the democrats really are and how conservatives always knew how bad obamacare really was. i have not had any response from him so how about everyone here contact him with the same message so eventually he will receive it. he gets too many emails to read so we need an email bomb.

Hey Dumbass, heres why we need regulations – “Freedom Industries, the company responsible for the massive chemical leak that spilled into West Virginia’s Elk River, contaminating the tap water across nine counties, had a “creative” approach to staunching the leak’s flow: a single cinder block, and a bag of absorbent powder., “

As far as regulations the loudmouth below is somewhat correct–we do need some for safety–however we have gone so overboard that we have paralyzed ourselves on actually creating markets. I knew someone who owned a flower shop for years–30 years. Then suddenly was fined for not having the proper florist certificate. And look at the medical field. Patient care has plummeted to the over regulation of paperwork—-I’m an ex provider. And we have lost our mind. RNs
can’t even do their jobs anymore. We could cut 80% of it–easy.

Now about the immigration. It’s not immigration. It’s illegal invaders. And the country that is the most guilty is Mexico. Period.

    I know people on
conservative sites get it but let’s ask the almighty intellectual
Progressive what the definition of legal is versus illegal. Because it
one supports something that is illegal on the grounds that it is not
really a legal issue then one
suffers from anti reason. That’s why I never comment back to their
“you’re a racist” remarks. You cannot reason with the irrational.

The only issue with illegal aliens is the deportation should be upgraded
and occur on massive levels. And when you say that the Leftist will
immediately begin with the “what if” questions where he will play on
emotional circumstances and always directed to “the children.”

Well here is my answer to all of them. What if the illegal has been here
ten years? Deportation. What if they got married here? Deportation.
What if there are children now? Deportation–and he can take the
children with him or her to Mexico or direct them to social services.
That dilemma is the illegal’s own doing, not ours.
If a burglar was caught ten years after the fact none of these “what ifs” would ever
come up. But when it is person of color, as the huge, almost 100% of
illegals coming from the southern border are Mexican, suddenly the law
is not the law. Let me bring you up to speed Mr Progressive. If we
enforce the law at the southern border the vast huge majority of those
deported will be Mexican. Because the country below is Mexico, not
Norway. And if we catch an illegal from Norway I want them deported as
    well.
We are seriously in debt. The idea one dollar is given to
an illegal is the anti reason I speak of and write about in fiction and
nonfiction. And a country that does not operate in reason will soon find
they will not be a country at all but just another footnote in history
    of fallen empires.
And that’s what the Progressive really wants.
