TheBlaze’s coverage of last night’s State of the Union was a bit unconventional. Instead of stuffy panels and focus groups, TheBlaze exposed the annual address for what it really is: A circus. From its radio and TV coverage to the live chat, TheBlaze had the State of the Union well covered, and the audience responded in a very big way. TheBlaze’s hashtag (#TheBlazeSOTU) trended nationally on Twitter throughout most of the speech – a feat only Fox News matched.

I feel something coming on like I haven’t felt before,” Glenn said on radio this morning. “The last time I felt anything close to this was in the lead-up to what happened… [with] the launch of the TEA Party when everybody went to Washington and we started the 9/12 project.”
The Right-Wing Dominated Twitter
Two media companies were trending on Twitter throughout the president’s speech on Tuesday: Fox News and Glenn Beck’s The Blaze. (NBC News enjoyed a few, brief moments toward the bottom of the list.) Does that mean more conservatives and libertarians were watching the State of the Union adress than moderates and progressives — certainly not. But it does mean that they were far more engaged in the Twitter conversation.
What does it mean? Maybe nothing. Maybe it’s just an echo-chamber shouting at one another. But if America’s political audience is indeed as apathetic as the data above suggest, all engagement is notable.
It is no coincidence that TheBlaze and Fox News’ coverage that garnered the most engagement on social media.
“There’s a reason why we were so viral last night that… How is TheBlaze the success that it is today? It’s because we tell you the truth, and we present it in a way that you relate to,” Glenn said. “And that is why we declared yesterday: the State of the Union is a circus… It’s a circus on both sides of the aisle. And so we presented that.”
