Glenn has a very short list of candidates for the 2016 election, and Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) makes the cut. Sen. Paul was in Texas today and stopped by the studio for a quick radio interview. He will also be taping a longer interview with Glenn that will air next week on the Glenn Beck Program. This morning, Glenn asked Sen. Paul why he chose to formally endorse Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) in this year’s election and what he is doing to fight government overreach.

“Can we start with the hardest question that I have for you, and it is this,” Glenn asked. “Why are you endorsing Mitch McConnell?”

“Because he asked me,” Sen. Paul said simply. “He asked me when there was nobody else in the race, and I said yes.”

One of the reasons Sen. Paul is in Texas this weekend is to endorse Don Huffines for Texas Senate. Much like Glenn, he believes that if as Texas goes, so goes the union.

“I grew up here in Texas, and Texas is the last bastion before we lose the republic. So we have to keep Texas. And not only do we have to keep Texas, we have to figure out how to win Ohio and Illinois,” Sen. Paul said. “And I think we can. And I think that liberty is popular. The Bill of Rights is popular. I think all of the ideas that we should be for, can be popular again, but we just can’t be tepid. We can’t be Democrat-light. And we, you know, frankly have to stand up and say what we believe in.”

Sen. Paul is also working on a class-action lawsuit against the National Security Agency to stop their “out-of-control” surveillance gathering techniques. This is a violation of Americans’ Fourth Amendment rights, and it is time to stand up against the government overreach.

“So many conservatives say, ‘I’m for the Second Amendment.’ And I tell them: You cant’ be for the Second Amendment unless you’re for the Fourth Amendment, unless you’re for the First Amendment, unless you’re for the Fifth Amendment,” Sen. Paul said. “They all go hand in hand. And we have so many folks say, ‘It doesn’t matter. I’m just for the Second Amendment.’ But you can’t have it unless you have all the amendments.”
