Note from Glenn: “Chasing the sun”

Glenn posted the note below on Facebook tonight as he flew from New York City to Washington State to be with family:

It has been a tough week. I was in NYC for a funeral of an “aunt”. Then last night I got a call from my sister Michelle. She said my father was in the hospital.

Hours ago the nurses said that we should all gather. Tonight I find myself flying to see my father as he heads back home to see his Father.

Tonight, I am chasing the sun and racing against the clock trying to arrive before his escorts do.

Pray for my sisters and children as they love dad and grandpa as much as I do.

May they live to feel just a second of the end of The Snow Angel.

It’s never easy saying goodbye to our loved ones. When my Dad went, that chapter of my life suddenly was over. I think of him often. So many things remind me of him. When Mom left us, I realized I would never again get a birthday card from her. It’s the little things that hit hard. My prayer and sympathy is with you and your family, Glenn. God bless you. I pray that your Dad’s passage is eased by the company of his angels, both earthly and heavenly.

I remember when I lost my father at the the age of 12. He died of a massive heart attack and I was the one who had to call 911 and try to revive him, as I was an only child and my mom and dad weren’t together anymore. I hope the passing of your father is much less painful than that. God bless and God speed.

  • Marie Travis

Godspeed. Prayers and sympathy for you and your family. Find what peace you can in knowing that he’s going to a better place and you will be together in time.

I don’t know why, but I had the strongest urge to come to just now, and happened across this story. I had no idea that this was happening, or the great incredible moment that was/is unfolding in the life of the Beck family. On behalf of my entire family we send our deepest love, support, and prayers to the entire Beck clan. Glenn you could never know how greatly and deeply you effected my life during the passing of my own father. In fact I was looking for a voice, or a glimpse of what direction I was supposed to follow as I was loosing him. Glenn this is when I found you. I pray so deeply that your heart and the hearts of all you love are eased during this difficult time, and above all things that your own fathers journey to meet our divine creator is as pain free and beautiful as possible. God speed my friend.

I had to stop by for a second and say thank you to all of you who mentioned my comments and had nice things to say. Thank you! Like all of you I just wanted to share with Mr. Beck and family, how I was feeling from the bottom of my heart. Glenn says it all the time and I have to agree that THIS audience is filled with the best people on the planet. On a side note almost too shocking or unbelievable too be true yesterday my uncle (my fathers brother) died suddenly and my whole family is now in a state of shock and mourning. Its all to strange for words. One more time I find myself anxiously awaiting Glenns message of hope and love that he will most certainly share with his audience in the days to follow. At a time when Mr. Beck probably needs the most support he is sure to comfort all of us instead. I am so proud to call myself a member of this audience. Thank you again to all of you who had nice things to say about my words. I am beyond humbled. God bless.

  • Mary J Randall

Glenn, I hope that you got there in time to spend some time with your father and your family. If you did, you were lucky. I spoke with my mother, Mary S Randall a week before her death in March 2011 and my sister and I did not know where she had been for 3 months. We had been notified by the hospital in Mobile, AL that she had been admitted but never told of the diagnosis nor told of the readmittance to the hospital twice more during the time 01 Sept 2010 – 22 Sept 2010. According to the Board of Health of Alabama that is the responsibility of the doctor not the hospital. I asked what if the doctor is involved. I got no answer. I also found out that if your love one is in a nursing facility that they do not have to speak with you if your name is not on a call-out sheet even if the call-out sheet is fraudulent nor do they have to speak with their administrator nor the patient. I also did not know that our mother had been under hospice care until 3 to 4 months after her death. I was told by Medicare that it was not their responsibility to inform me that my mother was under hospice care even though they knew I was handling my mother’s financial affairs with a Durable Power of Attorney and her Healthcare affairs. Whose responsibility is it then? How many people have to die before we wake up to this problem in our country? One is too many. I am sorry for your family in this time of passing but I know that your father is in a better place if he believed in Jesus Christ. I am sorry for your loss but I rejoice with him being with his maker. I know that God is real, not an illusion when the doctor told me when I almost died several years ago. Please help me sir stop this problem so that no one can kidnap and murder someone using our healthcare facilities. If a patient is under hospice, no autopsies are done.

He guided me and taught me values that I may not be perfect at, but I try. Be strengthened by your faith. He isn’t dying, he is going to the next stage of his eternal life. Our deepest sympathies to you and your family, Glenn. I hope that, when his time comes to join with our Father, that he has the blessing of having all of his family with him. We just lost my father literally this past Sunday and are still coping with the void that it has left in all of our lives. Although it is very hard, I know that you know that he will be off to a better place. I would like to take just a second to thank you, and especially your immediate family for allowing you the time away from them, for all that you have done and continue to do for all of us. It really does make a difference. Our thoughts and prayers are with you, your family, and all of those that your father’s life has touched.

A sick man turned to his doctor as he was preparing to Leave the examination room and said, ‘Doctor, I am afraid to die. Tell me what lies on the other side.’

Very quietly, the doctor said, ‘I don’t know.’

‘You don’t know? You, a Christian man, Do not know what is on the other side?’

The doctor was holding the handle of the door; On the other side came a sound of scratching and whining, And as he opened the door, a dog sprang into the room And leaped on him with an eager show of gladness.

Turning to the patient, the doctor said, ‘Did you notice my dog? He’s never been in this room before. He didn’t know what was inside. He knew nothing except that his master was here, And when the door opened, he sprang in without fear.

I know little of what is on the other side of death,

But I do know one thing… I know my Master is there and that is enough.’

I know how sad I would inevitably become. It took me several months to
begin to get back to my jolly self. Sorrow is a very difficult thing. My
savior Jesus showed up one night and looked at me squarely as I slept
as if to say, I am with you and have not left, I feel your pain. I began
to heal after that and am so thankful for the friend I have in Jesus.

Glenn: I know how you must feel as I lost both my parents within the last several months; dad in October and mom in January. They were married over 64 years and mom was just too lonely without dad. Though they were elderly and both lived long lives (99 & 89) it’s still difficult to lose your parents. All my prayers and condolences Glenn, but rest assured that your father is much more alive then ever. He just removed the burdens of the body and the petty troubles of this world and returned to his real nature, a spirited soul. I realized that when I wept for my mother it was really me weeping for myself and the lost that I felt. I know she wished I wouldn’t because she was free at last.

Heavenly Father, we ask you welcome the father of Glenn Beck into Your Heavenly Kingdom, where all pain and fear is erased and every tear wiped away. Let him know only joy and love in Your Presence O, God. Heavenly Father, we also beseech You to send Your angels of comfort and hope to the Beck family during this difficult time of transition for them. Hold them close in Your embrace as they grieve the loss of a loved one, and imbue them with the hope that they will be reunited again at the Final Resurrection, for with You, O Lord, nothing is impossible. We ask this in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, One God forever and ever. Amen.

My father will be gone 5 years to the day on Monday. It seems like yesterday. You’ll never forget that great and horrible day but you will manage and, to tell you the truth, it makes you better to prepared to accept when your day will arrive. As more people you know and love cross over, the more you won’t mind joining them.

Not to say I want to go anytime soon but the fear of death and leaving those you love behind becomes a little less. You realize that the number of those you love have and moved on is nearing equality with those you love here, evermore so as you get older So when it is your time, you are more prepared to join them.

You sense it is the way of things. Those who depart are going to “prepare a place” for the rest of us.

    My sincere sympathies Glenn

  • Dusty Bottoms

To Glenn and family – all of you that care.
We each come to this point in life, if things have gone right for us, and to each of us these times must come. At my age I’ve come to where all the prior generation that have invested their love in me have either “stepped through the veil” or are about to. As common as it may become the pain of separation is rarely blunted. I just wish that our spiritual evolution would have progressed to the point that leaving the body wasn’t such a trauma, mostly for those left behind, as it still is. Surely there is some way that has been withheld from us, but well within our grasp, to know through experience rather than mere faith, through practice rather than far-flung theory how to grasp the knowledge and practical existence of the “beyond”. It stares us in the face like the Sword of Damocles and through our ignorance we fear it even though it is an integral part of life. I know the perspective of your family, Glenn, is such that this will quickly becomes a celebration of a continuation of life rather than loss as well as a teachable moment for your younger family members. May God continue to bless you and yours!

I had the rare privilege to work for Glens Dad in the local bakery, and it was like no job I had ever had. It was nothing when the work day was over, and we had closed up shop, that we would go and sit out front at a table and just talk about our lives and world events. He was an amazing boss to work for as he was extremely fair and honest. He was proud of his children and proud of those of us who worked for him.
When an opportunity arose for a job with more perks and money, I took it, but it was a sad day when I left the dutch bakery…all of us who worked there were like a close family, and there wasn’t anything we wouldn’t have done for our boss. I haven’t seen him in years ( it was late 70’s when I worked for him.) But I have to say that Glen reminds me of the integrity and honesty of his father. And he is certainly a voice we need in our country right now. Our prayers are with Glen and his family, and special prayers for his father, that he indeed have a pain-free journey into the arms of Jesus, if it is truly his time to go. A sad day to loose a great man, but a happy day if he is going into the arms of Christ. Blessings to you and your family Glen.

I know that you can be tempted to think of things that you didn’t get to do, shelf those and keep in your heart that the most important thing was done He knows The Lord so you will see him again, The Lord promises that for those who give themselves to Him. Treasure each moment you get to hold his hand and rub his head as I do with my Dad and tell everyone you live them while they are all there and if permissible by your siblings say a prayer together with them and Thank God that you are now the leader of your household that you were called to be and your Father was able to see that, and it’s ok to feel good about that. I will be in prayer for you to have the strength you need to do whatever God calls you to be especially if what that is is being a Son, Brother, Friend Husband and Dad, with love and prayers. Ana, and my sons Julius and Anthony.

Glenn, I have watched you for years, first on Fox, now on the blaze. Just by watching you I can tell what kind of great dad your Father is. My deepest sympathy for your temporary loss,as you will be seeing him again!

To be honest I have been at lose for words and I wanted to do a bit of soul searching before I posted anything here, I thank God every day that I still have my Mother who is 94 years old, I don’t know what it is like to have a Dad seeing as I never met him. The attached Picture is of him after WW II, as my mother tells me my Dad was one of the many that were lucky to get out the concentration camps and from there nothing was the same. Over time He came to the U.S.A. and my Mom lost contact. There are many times I wish he would have been around for me, you Sir have had the greatest thing a boy and man could ever want, A Real Father to guide you and teach you and be there for you, as I’m sure our Father who art in heaven has watched over you and you’re family all this time, guided you’re family and you on the path he has chosen for you. I humbly pray to Our Father Who Art In Heaven, that he gives your Dad the health and strength that he may stay in your life for you and your family as you make this journey to be with him in this difficult time, as I/we who look to your words of wisdom and thank you for being the Voice for so many of us and I have to say a great foundation for me to look upon and aspire to be better. I/we don’t know your Dads condition But if from the note you posted here is any indication, that Our Father Who Art In Heaven Is ready for yet another Angel to take his place by his side, I pray that he grants you the time to hold his hand, look in to his eyes so that he can see what a Good man you really have become, and so that he can hear you tell him how much you love him. From my family & me to you and you’re family, I and we send our love and prayers, our thoughts are with you and you’re Family, may you gain the strength from the prays from us all to stand tall and strong as I’m sure you’re Dad has thought you. God Bless you and you’re family in these difficult times and may he continue to stand by you’re side and guide you and your family.

    Dear Glenn,
My heart aches for you and your family knowing how difficult the loss of a parent is. I hope you know how loved you are by your “extended family”. Even though most of us never met your dad, he is special to us because he gave us you. We share in your grief Glenn and pray that your heart is comforted knowing he is wrapped in Gods love. Peace be with you and yours during this sad time.

Hopefully Glenn repaired the rift he had with his father before his dad passed away. Bill Beck was a down to earth man who worked hard, told the truth and had integrity. He wasn’t out for fame, attention and fortune and he never sacrificed his integrity for a buck. Glenn can still learn from his father. Bill lived his life like a real unsung hero and those real people are the ones who deserve our respect and admiration.
