Unmitigated buffoonery: Joe Biden harkens Teddy Roosevelt, refers to illegal immigrants as ‘American citizens’

Leave it Vice President Joe Biden to say something that borders on “unmitigated buffoonery.” At a Washington gathering of the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce on Thursday, Vice President Biden admitted the nearly 12 million illegal immigrants living in the United States are already “American citizens” in his view.

“Now we have Joe Biden standing up and telling us in this unbelievably delirious rant – he has the nerve, first of all, to invoke the words of Teddy Roosevelt in an asinine way,” Pat said on radio this morning, “And then he also says this.”

BIDEN: You know, 11 million people living in the shadows, I believe they’re already American citizens. Teddy Roosevelt said it better. He said, ‘Americanism is not a question of birthplace or creed or a line of descent. It’s the question of principles, idealism, and character.’ These people are just waiting, waiting for a chance to be able to contribute fully. And by that standard, 11 million undocumented persons are already Americans, in my view.

Pat took serious issue not just with the Vice President’s assertion that illegal immigrants are actually citizens but with the way he chose to harken former President Theodore Roosevelt in a less than truthful way.

“That’s unbelievable,” Pat said. “’They’re already American citizens.’ No, they’re not! This is the vice president of the United States. This is unmitigated buffoonery. And then to invoke Teddy Roosevelt – here’s what Teddy Roosevelt said, Joe.”

Pat proceeded to read, in full, President Roosevelt’s thoughts on immigration as written in a letter to the American Defense Society in 1919 – 10 years after his presidency:

In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person’s becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American…

There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn’t an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag… We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language… and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.

“I mean it doesn’t get any clearer. Joe must have missed those quotes,” Pat concluded. “I’m not a fan [of Roosevelt]. He was a progressive. But his thoughts on immigration are not as Biden presented them… [Biden is] so disingenuous and, again, [it was] such an absolute lie.”

A lot of what TR wrote about immigrants has been expurgated from modern editions of his books, such as “New York City”. In other words, modern publishers have changed what the man actually wrote in order to make him conform to modern liberal sensibilities. Will Lincoln be next?

Uh-oh. “Stand-up Joe” was honest about what he actually believes (you know, the radical, un-American nonsense?). He was probably called into the Oval Office AGAIN and told to stop being so honest.

    He REALLY wants those votes.

  • LAPhil

I guess this means we should forget any ideas about impeaching Obama. The result would clearly be worse!

  • CrapsDealer

For the sake of truth, Joe should have added…”as long as they vote Democrat”. But, then again…how foolish is it of me to expect the truth from anyone in this administration?

And Mr. Biden’s position should be placed before every representative before the fall elections, and a comment demanded: so that all real Americans can be sure where their current Constitutional steward stands. It will be no difficulty for someone who believes in a difference between legal and illegal immigration to make a positive statement affirming their position.

And btw, Joe…testing their “principles, idealism, and character” are why we have our current immigration process. It’s too be you fools decided not to enforce it.

You can still see the coat hanger marks on Biden’s head, where his mother tried to abort him.

Hey folks – translation “your citizenship ain’t worth crap”

Never mind that Teddy was referring to people that were already US citizens and Joe is referring to foreigners who snuck in. I think the neurosurgeon must have left a sponge inside Uncle Joe’s skull.

So let me get this right liberals are only want to use their votes. I am starting to wonder if that is what all liberals are users.

” Americanism is not a question of birthplace or creed or a line of
descent. It’s the question of principles, idealism, and character.’ ” . . . So, These people who broke the law to enter another country illegally are of principle and character? So then, Joe, breaking the law is Americanism?

Yeah, those 11 million are okay in his sight, as well as all the gun-holding criminals, the radical Islamist cells — hey, they’re just schooling those kids, don’t’cha know? We love schooling!

In his mind, the real troublemakers, the real tyrants are us legal gun-holders, patriots and Constitution lovers. Yeah, we’re the real problem for him, all those others just loooove him for all his freebies and giveaways, including amnesty and looking the other way when they blow up something.

Still, Remember Benghazi. Who said, “Stand down.”?

All white people are illegal aliens on this continent.

  • ken.

    as are all hispanics.

  • thedogwalker

Really pathetic watching this man, a U.S. Vice President no less, groveling to the Hispanic interlopers. Now it turns out that criminal trespassers will be given a second chance. Where’s my second chance?

Am I the only one here that’s heard about Operation: Wetback? If you haven’t heard of it, please educate yourself. It kills me when people say “We can’t get rid of them all”. We’ve done it before, we can do it again!

    Revolution Calling!

  • Joe

A lot of these immigrants have got no choice but to break the law. Currently the law only allows a certain number of immigrants every year. And these people are loyal to America and I’m sure would be willing to learn English if such programs were offered for illegals. Not that it’d be a bad thing for America to take on a second language. And as for the complete assimilation, How are they suppose to assimilate to American culture when America is a mixture of all cultures. (That’s why were called the melting pot.)

Teddy Roosevelt was defining the American character as an amalgam of people’s best attributes. At the same time he warned against a “polyglot boardinghouse” of unassimilated loafers who still owed their allegiance to their homeland. Nice try Biden, but you keep confirming you’re an idiot.
