‘The commands of government officials must be obeyed by all’: Check out the Common Core worksheet that will make your eyes bleed

In honor of Glenn’s new book CONFORM: Exposing the Truth About Common Core and Public Education, TheBlaze Books put together a list of the “10 Common Core exercises that will make your hair fall out.” On radio this morning, Glenn found one of the exercises particularly amusing – if you can get past that fact that our children are actually being taught these things in school.

Get Glenn Live! On TheBlaze TV

“There’s a story up on TheBlaze today that will [make] blood will shoot out of your eyes, make your head pop, tear your hair out? It will make your head pop,” Glenn said. “Just understand, there’s no indoctrination here at all.”

Pat proceeded to read through a worksheet that asked third grade students to “make each sentence one less word by replacing the underlined word with a possessive noun phrase.”

Sentence 7: If your parents own any guns, send an e-mail to: http://www.obamagunconfiscation.gov, explaining where the guns are kept.

I cheated on question 2 and looked up the answer, this grammar lesson is a bit tough. But you know what? How is this batch of sentences any different in teaching what to believe in than the colonists having schoolkids learn how to read from books saying “In Adam’s fall we sinned all” and other indoctrination ditties like this? It’s completely the same. The only difference is this one doubles as grammar AND Social Studies. The ABC book that colonial kids used to learn how to read was just for reading.

    • Anonymous

So, since someone used the school system to indoctrinate kids before, then we should be okay with continuing to do that? I don’t even let my own kids get away with the ‘but they did it’ defense when they are doing something they shouldn’t be.

      • Anonymous

I’m not sure this grammar lesson is blatant indoctrination. The sentences are correct in a Social Studies sort of way, The last sentence goes along with the second sentence to explain things. The explanation about how a nations rights trumps individual rights have always been that way. There would be every state for itself and like-minded people in every state if that was the case. You are right that just because America has indoctrinated kids before it should be stopped. Thing is, that’s easier said than done. Whoever is in charge of writing textbooks and worksheets will always skew them in certain directions depending on what sort of thinking the country is currently into. It’s why Common Core is rumoured to be updated from time to time so it can keep up with trends. It would be nice if here were ways to teach and learn without either indoctrination OR having schools be off in their own world that doesn’t have anything to do with real life but that’s sort of impossible.

        • Anonymous

One problem that I have is that is says “the commands of government officials”, not “laws passed by government officials.” Those are two very different things. Just as my husband and I were talking about earlier, words DO matter.
I agree that it would be nice for my kids to get an education that didn’t include indoctrination, but that’s why I teach them the other side of the issues also. That way they can make their own judgments an decisions.

          • Anonymous

Commands isn’t an awful word, it’s like commandments. If it’s an okay word from God and Moses then it should be okay from governments too. There are some commands from government that aren’t laws. Stuff like obeying traffic lights and no putting graffiti on public property and wearing a seat belt whenever people are in cars. Actually, there are a bunch of commands about cars and how to keep them legal so people don’t get tickets. There are probably a bunch of other things about how to be good citizens but everyone is so used to obeying those nobody pays much attention to the fact that are commands. The worksheet sentence would be much worse if it said citizens should obey ORDERS from the government. That sounds like what dictators do because it’s an “or else” sort of word.

          • Anonymous

Actually, in the state where I live it is a law that you must wear your seat belt, obey traffic lights, and not vandalizing buildings. If a government official (and that generic description can apply to absolutely anyone that works for the government) commands that anyone that uses on online name of fawnday must set their hair on fire in the middle of the street, are you okay with that? Like I said, words DO matter.

          • Anonymous

No, self-preservation would kick in if anyone commanded to do that. Are you okay with giving commands to your computer? Everyone does that whenever they click.on anything.

          • Anonymous

Yes, I am fine with giving commands to my computer. The HUGE difference here is that when I give my computer a command, the ENTIRE country is not obligated to abide by it. Well, and also, I’m not a government official. Those are the problems I have with the statement. Basically, anyone that works for the government can be deemed a ‘government official’ and a command is not a law. I’m not sure why you are so willing to do whatever a ‘government official’ commands you to do. Although, when I posed the previous question, you admitted that you’re also not willing to follow all the commands of ‘government officials.’

          • Anonymous

I’m fine with doing what government commands because so far the commands have all made sense. Even military people don’t have to do EVERYTHING their commanders say to do if those orders don’t make sense.

  • Moozmom

Gee, according to these statements, the president is the only branch of government, and the government is a collective. This is communism and my dad and uncle (killed in Italy in WWII) fought to keep us free. Dad would be mad as hell, red faced, and quietly seething about this.

Does anyone know if the unions had any input in the design or implementation of Common Core?

      • helen sabin

Testing companies were the major one writing the curriculum – but if you look closely enough there will be worksheets about the unions and how great they are.

The public school systems are failing, miserable, under-achieving indoctrination centers, period. Parents should remove their children from these government run “schools” and either home school, send to a private school either religious or secular and refuse to let their children be trained to be good little followers of the government. Common Core is the final nail in the coffin of the public education system, all by design and a Marxist tenet without a doubt. Control, control, control.

    • Anonymous

No strings Vouchers for each child would make short work of this indoctrination and social engineering of the next generation.

      • ken.

not enough private schools to go around yet, it’s going to take awhile to catch up.

        • helen sabin

Start your own – educate your own children!

    • Anonymous

The answer is clearing the garbage out of the schools. If patriots pull out of the public schools, the progressives will have free will and they will rule at the voting booth. Freedom will be totally gone in one generation!
Get involved with the Constitution, the very simple words therein, Webster’s definitions, Article 6 clauses 2&3, 2nd oath/duty (defend without any reservation) -force ta after hours meetings & workshops.
Define progressive as the factual people they are by education& activity (Radical Communist, Sharia, and monopolist dominance in appointees). Dig into their seditious belief system relative to the basic issues of making laws to violate “shall make no law”!
Force the Constitutional issues vs. sedition, insurrection, armed rebellion by using police to enforce constitutional violations against citizens, & out in the open treason!

      • jesusknight

The progressives are already ruling the voting booths and have plenty of free will.. taking our kids out of the public school arena does not take them out of the running, it puts them in front! Home schooled children are better educated and all around smarter than public schooled kids these days.
We can still make sure to get rid of these clowns on the school boards, teacher associations, etc., if we make enough noise about it, and vote constitutional.

    • Anonymous

Yes! Parents should remove their children from government schools! BUT, MORE IMPORTANTLY, parents need to be INVOLVED in what their children are learning. I know parents are busy, but busy with what? As a former teacher, I’ve spoken with parents who are on Facebook until after midnight, but don’t know what is going on with their children, not only in school, but also outside of school. Then they wonder why the child can’t read or why the cops are bringing little Jimmy home.
The education system became about control when parents relinquished their control to the schools. The model of the Public School system came from the Soviet Union back in the early part of the 20th century. Has it really taken until now for people to figure it out? Or, has it finally stopped trying to hide? I choose “B”.

  • Keith Pallo

This Socialt, Marxist indoctrination pure and simple!! They are targeting the next generation of our kids so they won’t have to fire a shot to take over the country!! This has to stop NOW!!!!!

I can say that I have obeyed all the federal government rules I intended.

If your children have liberal teachers then teach them that liberals are basically evil and counter their crap. Encourage you child to come home and tell you all the stupid lies that their teacher told you today. Be a non-conformist and challenge the teacher authority. Or just homeschool.

Every time I think there’s nothing left with which the impostor could surprise me, the narcissistic, malevolent, socialist POS comes up with something new. On my (good) knee every damned day praying he’s impeached or otherwise removed from his throne and thrown to the female dogs from whence he rose.

Having been a teacher, following my mother’s footsteps as a one room teacher very long ago, I have never seen such rot as what Common Core has brought to the classrooms. I will venture this: teachers who work in RIGHT TO WORK STATES are not using this pile of excrement. Abandoning the public school is not the answer. Modernizing and improving some systems is, but not going away from what is now mocked as “old school”. A good place to clean house would be as simple as restoring CURSIVE writing to elementary grades. I could not believe that it was really not being taught now.
My heart is hurting right now for what once was, and what now is.

So let me get this right what liberals claim was not propaganda is in fact propaganda? My mind is blown that they would lie about it.

    • CaveRat

Unfortunately, we’re all preaching to the choir. How to get this so important information where it will be read and understood? School boards already know this is destroying freedom in our time, which is why they won’t let anyone talk to the points in board meetings. Amazing – you can get arrested !! for even trying!

    Thumbs down to Common Core!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Libertarian

WHY do we still depend on the government and the socialist teachers unions to educate our children? Have you heard of THE INTERNET? Have you heard of http://www.ohio-distinctive.com? Do you have a computer at home (LOL)? PUBLIC SCHOOL – AS IT IS NOW – IS A VOLUNTARY HOSTAGE SITUATION, WHERE YOU SURRENDER ALL YOUR PARENTAL RIGHTS. If you think you can undo the harm that was implanted into your child’s brain by a socialist teacher – you are deluding yourself. You will just expose your child to an unnecessary stress. Your 7 years old child cannot ask you: “So, if the schoolteacher is stupid, or does not tell the truth, why did you send me there?”

But even if your child has the best and most ethical teacher you can imagine – it is still a hostage situation, because the system itself is OUTDATED. The old concept that every child has the same capacity for learning is just UNTRUE. Every child is different. No school would allow a child to master a subject at his / her own pace; so, the child is either ahead of the crowd and is bored, or is behind and discouraged. The socialist education system has been fighting the very CONCEPT of individualized approach for years. How about allowing your child to master each subject at his / her own pace? WHAT A CRIMINAL, RACIST, SEXIST, REVOLUTIONARY CONCEPT!!! The socialist teacher will get a heart attack!

The power of the government is intimidation of a few examples to put fear in the masses. But when the masses use pitchforks and torches and make the ruling class afraid to leave their homes then a lesson in respect for each others constitutional rights can be appreciated.

Couldn’t agree more!!! I spent 10 years homeschooling 2 children, AFTER I was publicly schooled. If people can do it, or have someone that they wholeheartedly trust do it in exchange for something that they can offer for educating their child, I say GO FOR IT!!

This is the way the Nazi’s trained their children to turn in their parents and is also done in the Muslim world. The woman who is to be given 100 lashes and hung after she delivers her baby and who has her son living with her in an awful prison in the Sudan is being put to death by a system that is similar to this training. IN the Muslim world, if a non muslim says the name ALLAH – they can be put to death. FIGHT AGAINST Common core and write your worthless congress critters to get rid of it in your states and in the federal government.
