“In January of 2013 my boyfriend died in my arms. I woke up early to write a paper and he was going into cardiac arrest. He stopped breathing right as I called 911. I got him off the bed and did CPR until the paramedics came bursting into our room and shocked him back to life. A week, two hospitals, and more procedures than I can count later he was finally awake, alert, and recovering from getting a defibrillator implanted in his chest. It was the first time he really was himself and I was the happiest girlfriend in the world. The picture is of our first dance at our wedding just over a year later. That day was the best day I could ever hope to imagine. He is mine, he is healthy and he is not stuck in a bed anymore!”

God is Great – He always knows what we need and when we need it. I wish them many years together

  • Daniel

seriously is this necessary? It was a wedding… I would hope so.

  • JameandLiz Primeaux

:( tears. That is beautiful story!

  • Jesse Harrell

God doesn’t exist, so your point is moot.

  • Anonymous

come on. this is misleading. it made it sound like he actually died and was gone for good. he stopped breathing. very different. than being dead.

  • James Skinner

Some one didn’t get a hug today.
It is sad to see that you take out your misery out on others.

  • Richie

what is your proof that he doesnt exist?

  • AlexisJaime

I’m glad he lived and the story is sweet, but the title made it sound like he died.

  • Dawn

We know he does exist. Why does somebody always have to say this whenever we say we believe in a Great God?

  • Malachi Elijah

why should we believe you? What proof do you have Jesse, that God don’t exist?

  • Trisha Burkeen Greco

All we read these days seem to be stories of tragedies. It’s nice to read a happy ending.

  • Maria

I don’t believe he does either but why would you put a damper on the mood like that? Let people be. It’s not worth the argument.

  • Maria

If she hadn’t known CPR he would have died, and he needed shocked back to life. His heart stopped. He was dead.

  • lisa

Why do you people feel the need to interject your personal beliefs on every single story of a miracle? This story is about how lucky this couple is to be alive and have each other and you guys have to turn it in to a religious debate.Give it a rest already your disgusting. This isnt about you and your beliefs this is about their story. So shut up jesse

  • Jesse Harrell

    Prove she does

  • Jesse Harrell

you believe in an imaginary sky man, but not another human?

  • Anonymous

    Stop feeding the trolls…

  • Jesse Harrell

No you don’t, and because I am a truth speaker that’s why.

  • Anonymous

Cardiac arrest is not just stopping breathing… you don’t get a defib put in your chest if you have a breathing problem.

  • Jannette Ladouceur

I really feel sorry for anyone who does not believe in God, and I did enjoy this beautiful story and I pray they have a long and happy married life together.
    Jannette Ladouceur

  • Carol Sautner

I am sad for you Jesse and I will pray for you!

  • Jesse Harrell

no. and this wasn’t a miracle. It was a man not dying because of science. CPR/EMTs/Doctors/surgery.

  • Martha Murray Dyer

What a surprise you are going to have someday! Just saying…

  • Jesse Harrell

Please do. But instead of speaking the name of YHWH, can you say “Flying Spagetti Monster”?

  • Captain Liberty

Good thing they had taxpayer financed paramedics available.

  • Anonymous

People who have never known the love of God can not understand our love for God. Pity them for they don’t know love. Pray for them that one day they will know God’s love because then they will truly know LOVE.

  • Pat Berardi

    God bless you all!!

  • Taylor

Being a self proclaimed “truth speaker” and simply inserting your opinion to stir the pot are very different motives.

  • Jesse Harrell

Thank you for feeling sorry for me. Instead of pity though, can you just spend your church tithing on feeding the homeless or poor?

  • Stephanie White

I have proof it is a long story, so the short version is…i was angry as hell at God, blamed him for all that was wrong in my life, begging him to just kill me, I didn’t want to live anymore (tried to kill myself 3 different ways that night, once with a brand new razor blade, nothing but chicken scratches. But it cut the hell out of my leather seats and also injecting enough air in my veins to kill a horse and with a ton of very powerful pills all in the same night..nothing happened)I demanded he prove to me that he did exsist crying and begging and screaming aloud. I just wanted to die. I asked my dad who is dead and also my uncle to talk to him to please let me die. The last I remember saying to God is give me a sign anything to prove He is real. And something made me turn on the radio, and on the station was the song my uncle used to sing to me when I was a little girl before he died in a car crash. The verse that played was, Oh won’t you stay just a little longer, please
please stay…so I’m sorry that you don’t believe and that’s okay, you can still have compassion and empathy for others which is clearly evident you sorely lack that. God bless you…

  • Jesse Harrell

There is not a god…truth; Science saved this man not god…..truth; Xtians praise god for things that humans work hard to do…..truth.

  • Jesse Harrell

I was a xtian for 32 years. I thought I knew what god was. Then I stopped believing in fairy tales. I studied the scriptures. I read commentary. I went to church twice a week. The bible and her church talked me out of xtianity.

  • Holly Walker

Everyone gives their own personal beliefs when they respond to things. Just because a person like you or others do not agree doesn’t mean you have to make a war out of it. I don’t understand why the earlier person felt the need to down play someone’s heartfelt response to this story? So they didn’t agree, this is not the forum for that debate. Why was one person attacked for stating what they felt? It was a nice , sincere comment for the couple. The next comment was the hateful, rude attack on a person for simply mentioning God. Do you and others not believe everyone has the right to worship or speak about God? In that line of thinking , then no one has the right to deny or say hateful things about God either. You are right it is their story and the person that changed that topic were the ones who attacked a person for saying God. If you notice their were no hateful words in that comment whether you agree or not. Why did Jesse and others just say something nice toward the couple? They could choose not to say God or Jesus or any other “beliefs” in their statement.

  • Christine Lee

What makes you think that? I had a serious accident and the all volunteer ambulance/paramedics crew came to rescue me, treated me at the scene and took me to the hospital.

I bet you have one or more in your hometown that you could volunteer or financially support.

I come from a long line of volunteer fire fighters and paramedics.

  • Paulene Shedd

God gives you the breath you breath, and when he stop, then you stop, but one dayyou will stand before him and you will account to him all the things you did in this life, the sad part is this life is ver very short, its a practice run for where you are going to spend eternity and if you do not accept Christ here, through faith…. you will have to spend all of eternity in a horrible place separated from God. How can you see a baby born , or flowers grow and now see a wonderful God. Ask him to show you himself and he will. Call on his name and He will be there.

  • Jesse Harrell

    Thats not proof. Thanks though.

  • Pat

As the saying goes…”I would rather believe in God all my life and then at the end of life find out He doesn’t exist than not believe in God all my life and then find out at the end of my life He does exist.”

  • Anne Crawford

You may think God doesn’t exist today but one day you’re going to need him. When that day comes you’ll be praying He is with you to meet your ever need.

  • Jesse Harrell

Because giving credit to a god, and not the swift action of the gf and EMTs is ludacris. Give credit where credit is due.

  • commonsense

I think instead of teaching art or drama all public schools should have mandatory CPR CLASSES

  • Guest

Haha!! I literally was reading this comment about God being Great and just thought “oh boy.. Here will come some classless trolling” and WHAM! One glance down and Jesse was quickly providing the stupidity. Yep Jesse, we believe SOME great dude put the universe together and put us here, you believe it all just came from nothing. Who’s dumber, the person who says the artist must be great since the art is but since we can’t see him assumes he’s not in the room? Or the person who, since their short sighted little eyes can see him say that the art had to have blown up out of nothing? Either way, people should be able to say what they believe without being mocked. And usually the mocking is just going one way.

  • Destiny

That is a beautiful story. God bless you; I understand where you are coming from, with the attempts, for I have tried, too. Stay tough.
Also, Jesse: opinions are just that; opinions. If someone chooses to believe in something up there, let them. I myself am an atheist, but for anything’s sake, let them be.

  • Jesse Harrell

If you are drowning, and I’m the only one around who can swim, are you going to call out my name? or your god’s?

You see so little. It’s sad. You say that all there is is what you can see and prove? So if you lived in ancient egypt, you would say that the brain is a useless organ? Or that if you were in the dark ages, science is magic? Wake up. Just because YOU don’t understand, does not automatically mean that everything people say is wrong when it is not proven. Fact: in science, you must prove a theory wrong in order for it to be “fact.” So….. by YOUR standards…. God is not NOT real.

  • Jesse Harrell

    UGH

  • Jesse Harrell

    TEXAS?

  • Soylent Green

I too have ‘proof’. But, since the Bible says, ‘Don’t cast pearls before swine’, sometimes I tell it to people who’ll ‘listen and hear it’ and sometimes I choose to keep it to myself.

1 Corinthians 8:6 “Yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.”

  • Richard Magnuson

I just love it when so-called atheists make the pronouncement that there is no God. This means they have the ultimate knowledge of the universe therefore, they have pronounced themselves as – God. Keep rebelling against God but it won’t change reality. Even a child can look outside at the creation and know there is a Creator. Atheists know it too but want to deny it because to accept it they then have accountability.

  • Jesse Harrell

But science proved those things wrong, where the sheeple just believed what the shamen told them….you’re kind of making my point for me Sarah.

  • Sarah Watson

yo the miracle was not the life saving LITERALLY it was the fact that the situation CHANGED his life. you just like to fight, don’t you?

  • Soylent Green

I am truly sorry for you Jesse that you lost your faith. Just remember, that even though YOU may have given up on God, He will NEVER give up on you!

  • Sarah Watson

OK that is SO out of line I am disgusted. God is not going to send you to a fiery red hell to burn forever and torture poor humans. The pain is going to be realizing that you did not accept the truth, that you will not be with God, with that pure true love. It’s like, when you get dumped? That feeling of not being loved? The horrible pain in your chest and heart? Times a gazillion forever. It is a second-death. Stop condemning people to hell. Because condemning someone to hell is TOTALLY going to make them want to join your cult. Modern day Christianity is becoming just that. It’s less about God and more about us and the religion and blah blah blah. Knock it off people. Stop the “going to hell” BS.

  • Skol Troll

God the Father, the Holy Spirit (the Helper), and Christ Jesus (the Son of Man). Three in One. One God. 1 Timothy 2:5, John 14:26.
Jesse, I can’t make you believe in God, like I can’t make you do or say anything you don’t want to. But, if you do not have the knowledge, heart or head, of the matter, please don’t play like you do.
God Loves You, and sent His son Jesus, and paid the ultimate price for our sin, so that we wouldn’t have to die a sinners death and be eternally apart from HIM. It’s our choice to accept Him and His gift to us, and ask for forgiveness, or to deny Him, reject Him. Either way, their is an Eternal consequence for our decisions.

Jesse, if God does not exist then why are you so angry with Him? Why exert so much hatred, sarcasm and anger towards those that know Him? In order to absolutely know that there is no God you would have to know everything there is to possibly know in the universe. A universe which science has proven is constantly expanding. I find it quite humorous that you could be so arrogant that you could possibly believe you know everything there is to know in the entire universe. Especially since it is highly doubtful that you have ever left this planet. Just because you reject Him, does not mean He does not exist. Is it remotely possible that in the vast amount of information that you do not know, that there is a God who does exist, who is in fact the creator of all things. I am pretty sure you not only know there is a God, but you are quite angry with Him. I know Him and I am not angry with Him. It is a much more peaceful existence than the one you apparently have. Try asking Him to reveal Himself to you instead of closing your mind to the possibility of His existence. I doubt you can do that, and it is your loss and lost you will always be.

  • Alex Kcco Fawbush

I just died in your arms tonight….

  • Jesse Harrell

I’ve never said I was angry with anyone, let alone a ficticious character. You say “Just because you reject Him, does not mean He does not exist.”. Well same back at you. Just because you enslave yourself to him, doesn’t mean he really exists at all.

It does no good to “demand” that someone understand that God exists. It is shown to us in the Bible, so leave Jesse alone. Pray for him, but to argue is to give satan your breath. Save your breath for those who will isten:

What does “Many are called but few are chosen” in Matthew 22:14 mean?

Question: “What does ‘Many are called but few are chosen’ in Matthew 22:14 mean?”

Answer: This statement is the conclusion to the Parable of the Wedding Feast. Jesus spoke this parable to show what the kingdom of heaven will be like when the end of the age comes. In the parable, the king sends his servants out to gather the wedding guests to the wedding feast. But those invited refused to come, some because they were too busy with their own worldly pursuits and some because they were positively hostile toward the king. So the king commands his servants to go out and invite anyone they find, and many come and fill the wedding hall. But the king sees one man without wedding clothes, and he sends him away. Jesus concludes by saying that many are called/invited to the kingdom, but only those who have been “chosen” and have received Christ will come. Those who try to come without the covering of the blood of Christ for their sins are inadequately clothed and will be sent into “outer darkness,” (v. 13) i.e., hell.

Many people hear the call of God which comes through His revelation of Himself through two things—the creation and the conscience within us. But only the “few” will respond because they are the ones who are truly hearing. Jesus said many times, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear” (Matthew 11:15; Mark 4:9; Luke 8:8, 14:35). The point is that everyone has ears, but only a few are listening and responding. Not everyone who hears the gospel receives it but only the “few” who have ears to hear. The “many” hear, but there is no interest or there is outright antagonism toward God. Many are called or invited into the kingdom, but none are able to come on their own. God must draw the hearts of those who come; otherwise they will not (John 6:44).

Why don’t you go ahead and just keep that to yourself, people don’t read these types of post just to look down in the comments and see your negative feedback. Just don’t even comment on posts anymore bud.

  • raybobrock

Jesse, you don’t have to say you are angry, your anger comes out in just about every comment you make. How could I enslave myself to Him if He doesn’t exist?

So you are in fact saying that you know everything there is to know in a constantly expanding universe and your knowledge expands in sync with the growth of the universe?

  • Kim

Head Knowledge and Heart Knowledge are 2 different thing, Jesse. God is not a Liar. And He would never make others talk you out of having a Personal Relationship with Him and being a Christian. The Deceiver, Satan, would do this, and seems to be the culprit here. All in All, the choice is Yours to make.

This is my last comment: You can’t say that god exists because a book written by his followers says so. There is a book about the FSM, does that mean that it exists (may parm be upon him)?

Jessee Harrell. First please do not use a X as a the way of spelling Christian. In my opinion that is a slap in the face just like using X to spell Christmas. Even if you do not believe the way I do please give my beliefs the same respect you want to be given. My theory is this. I believe in God. When I die & discover I was wrong then I will at least have lived a Godly life & treated others the way I wish to be treated. If I am not wrong then I have a wonderful home waiting for me with my loved ones that have passed before me. Now, you do not believe in God so when you die you do not expect anything. So if you are wrong & come face to face with God but are turned away what is in store for you for eternity? Because when you discover God is real you will also discover that Satan is real also. also I noticed you refer to God as “her”. If God does not exist how can a gender be applied? There is really no reason for you to be so angry at those of us who believe in God. I am not angry at you for your beliefs.

  • Ryan Hall

I never chime in on these discussions usually I just read what’s going on. Unfortunately I am reading a war over whether god exists or does not exist. Its pretty sad that an argument has come to this over a story about two people that are happy and everything worked out in the end for them. This is the United States of America not Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, or any other country that says you must believe in a certain god. In the United States you are free to practice any religion you want and you are free to believe or not believe and don’t have to worry about persecution for doing so. I was born and raised Catholic I have friends who are Muslim, Jewish and Hindu and their beliefs are not that much different than that of Christianity, they all believe in a heaven and hell and they all believe in treating others with kindness all religions have a different way of doing things but in the end its all about kindness and if you are good to yourself and good to the others around you, you will be rewarded in the end. Its not for other people to judge what your beliefs are and its not right for any religion to push their beliefs on others and same goes for the non believers to push their beliefs on someone who is religious. These are beliefs that are in the First Amendment and if we all did not judge someone for what they believe in and accept them for the people they are that would stop a lot of problems we have in this country and we could actually say that we lead the free world by example.

    Jesse,

Can you interact with the merits of Aquinas’s argument?

I’m curious what your reasoning or experience was that lead to you deny the existence of God?

Also, I am personally sorry for the ugly actions of those who claim Christ in this thread of comments. Gleefully cheering the damnation of sinners and smug self-assurance are the antithesis of the Gospel.

To you so-called Christians; repent for you abhorrent behavior and seek God’s forgiveness. Do not presume on his riches and kindness and ignore that his forbearance is to give you time to repent. (Romans 2:4) Remember, “Let all that you do be done in love.” (1 Cor 16:14) Many of you should be ashamed.

  • KH

Actually, the burden of proof is on you because we have witnesses who say God does exist, and that He came to earth as man. Prove they are lying.

So sorry you think that Jesse. Evidently you haven’t experienced God’s love in your life. It is real! I promise. I have experienced it first hand and so have many people I know. Just because you do not think He exists, doesn’t make it so. I would encourage you to ask Him to show you personally. Sincerely ask. He has made a way through His son, Jesus Christ. He is our salvation in this world. Life ‘ain’t’ easy, that’s for sure. God makes life bearable! I pray for you Jesse, may you find the true meaning of who God is and can be in your life.

You can’t prove a negative. You can only prove a positive. So positively prove that He does exist – not just in your heart/mind like Santa Claus – and THEN you have an argument. Until then, to each his own.

  • Jeremy

I don’t have a religion, but I believe man (and woman) are great. Not perfect. God is the symbol of perfection, but man (and woman) can do great things. Charles DeMontesqieu said the same thing, and that became the foundation for our country and healthcare system before the White House Devil.

  • Anonymous

Well its been proven that people who believe in God and have faith are happier and live longer lives. To sit here and debate you on whether he exist or not is stupid. I cannot prove he does and you most certainly can’t prove he doesn’t, but why do you feel the need to try and demean someone who does believe? Just remember one thing with your arrogant attitude, when I die if I’m wrong I loss nothing BUT if you are wrong your screwed.

  • Ken Crowley

If you’re wrong, and I say you are, you’re in big trouble. An eternity lasts a long time.

  • Amy

If God is responsible for all the good things, why is He not responsible for all the bad things? Seems to me that’s a little arrogant. And there is no reason for so-called Christians to be judging those who aren’t if they are really Christians, right? Isn’t that up to “God”? There is also nothing to say that people who don’t believe in a compilation of stories – of which there are a plethora of versions – can’t be good people. It’s not a “Godly” life, it’s just being nice. I know more Sunday Christians – who are assholes the rest of the week – than I do non-church goers who are mean, vile people. It goes both ways. If everything good belongs to your God, then everything bad does too. Stuff happens. If praying makes you feel better, pray away but keep your “Christian” condemnation and congratulations to yourself.

  • http://www.thereisagod.webs.com/ Derek Lockhart

You’re more than welcome to tell that to Him when you meet Him on Judgement Day. Of course, by that point any hope of salvation will have been lost. That’s why I’ve been praying for you – and the entire rest of the human population that doesn’t know Jesus Christ – that you will come to know your need for the Savior and accept Him before it’s too late. He loved you enough He was willing to die on a cross. To die in your place, no less. What great love the God you claim doesn’t exist has for you! Reject Him at your own peril, for He died and rose again for a very specific reason: Because no human is good enough to enter heaven on their own merit. We are each and every one of us sinners (Romans 3:23). Hell is our destination, apart from Jesus Christ, who loved us enough that He gave His life for us, His perfect record applied to our account when we accept Him into our hearts, and humble ourselves enough to repent of our sins and put Him first in all things, as we should do anyway. May God bless you, Jesse, and may you come to Christ before the end.

Well that is true Jesse. You can’t say God exists because a book was written. However it is convincing evidence of such. As I’m sure you well know that we live by Faith. It is your choice not to have faith in such. Just as you have faith that he is not there. You can’t prove he isn’t. You can’t prove he is. I know he is there. Just because you see someone give credit to God does not mean you must attack and call it malarkey. You choose to tease someone else’s faith. I do not know what Christians made you hate others so much. It is sad. God bless you. May life be full and happy. Good day.

Funny how one person can divert everyone else away from the blessings granted these two young people. Sounds like the devils work right there. Why else does the devil get involved other then to take away. Which in my eyes proves God exists or the devil would not have felt the need to have moved the conversation away from the positive blessing. Hope everyone has a blessed day.

Jesse isn’t a joke, and what he wrote isn’t at all humorous….It is extremely sad that that Jesse hasn’t know the exquisite freedom in having a personal relationship with a living God. His rude comment is an unconscious cry for attention that is missing in Jesse’s life. So don’t feed his misery…but rather pray that God will pierce his heart and free Jesse from the bonds that hold him back from enjoying the freedom only available to us as a product of having a living, loving God to guide an lead us in the direction of
    life everlasting.

The existence of God can be proved in five ways.

The first and more manifest way is the argument from motion. It is certain, and evident to our senses, that in the world some things are in motion. Now whatever is in motion is put in motion by another, for nothing can be in motion except it is in potentiality to that towards which it is in motion; whereas a thing moves inasmuch as it is in act. For motion is nothing else than the reduction of something from potentiality to actuality. But nothing can be reduced from potentiality to actuality, except by something in a state of actuality. Thus that which is actually hot, as fire, makes wood, which is potentially hot, to be actually hot, and thereby moves and changes it. Now it is not possible that the same thing should be at once in actuality and potentiality in the same respect, but only in different respects. For what is actually hot cannot simultaneously be potentially hot; but it is simultaneously potentially cold. It is therefore impossible that in the same respect and in the same way a thing should be both mover and moved, i.e. that it should move itself. Therefore, whatever is in motion must be put in motion by another. If that by which it is put in motion be itself put in motion, then this also must needs be put in motion by another, and that by another again. But this cannot go on to infinity, because then there would be no first mover, and, consequently, no other mover; seeing that subsequent movers move only inasmuch as they are put in motion by the first mover; as the staff moves only because it is put in motion by the hand. Therefore it is necessary to arrive at a first mover, put in motion by no other; and this everyone understands to be God.

The second way is from the nature of the efficient cause. In the world of sense we find there is an order of efficient causes. There is no case known (neither is it, indeed, possible) in which a thing is found to be the efficient cause of itself; for so it would be prior to itself, which is impossible. Now in efficient causes it is not possible to go on to infinity, because in all efficient causes following in order, the first is the cause of the intermediate cause, and the intermediate is the cause of the ultimate cause, whether the intermediate cause be several, or only one. Now to take away the cause is to take away the effect. Therefore, if there be no first cause among efficient causes, there will be no ultimate, nor any intermediate cause. But if in efficient causes it is possible to go on to infinity, there will be no first efficient cause, neither will there be an ultimate effect, nor any intermediate efficient causes; all of which is plainly false. Therefore it is necessary to admit a first efficient cause, to which everyone gives the name of God.

The third way is taken from possibility and necessity, and runs thus. We find in nature things that are possible to be and not to be, since they are found to be generated, and to corrupt, and consequently, they are possible to be and not to be. But it is impossible for these always to exist, for that which is possible not to be at some time is not. Therefore, if everything is possible not to be, then at one time there could have been nothing in existence. Now if this were true, even now there would be nothing in existence, because that which does not exist only begins to exist by something already existing. Therefore, if at one time nothing was in existence, it would have been impossible for anything to have begun to exist; and thus even now nothing would be in existence–which is absurd. Therefore, not all beings are merely possible, but there must exist something the existence of which is necessary. But every necessary thing either has its necessity caused by another, or not. Now it is impossible to go on to infinity in necessary things which have their necessity caused by another, as has been already proved in regard to efficient causes. Therefore we cannot but postulate the existence of some being having of itself its own necessity, and not receiving it from another, but rather causing in others their necessity. This all men speak of as God.

The fourth way is taken from the gradation to be found in things. Among beings there are some more and some less good, true, noble and the like. But “more” and “less” are predicated of different things, according as they resemble in their different ways something which is the maximum, as a thing is said to be hotter according as it more nearly resembles that which is hottest; so that there is something which is truest, something best, something noblest and, consequently, something which is uttermost being; for those things that are greatest in truth are greatest in being, as it is written in Metaph. ii. Now the maximum in any genus is the cause of all in that genus; as fire, which is the maximum heat, is the cause of all hot things. Therefore there must also be something which is to all beings the cause of their being, goodness, and every other perfection; and this we call God.

The fifth way is taken from the governance of the world. We see that things which lack intelligence, such as natural bodies, act for an end, and this is evident from their acting always, or nearly always, in the same way, so as to obtain the best result. Hence it is plain that not fortuitously, but designedly, do they achieve their end. Now whatever lacks intelligence cannot move towards an end, unless it be directed by some being endowed with knowledge and intelligence; as the arrow is shot to its mark by the archer. Therefore some intelligent being exists by whom all natural things are directed to their end; and this being we call God.

  • Josh alderfer

I don’t agree with that statement at all. Because that is just showing Jesse that we believe in him because we are AFRAID of what will happen when we die. I love Jesus because he died for ME. And also everyone in this pathetic argument. Not because I might go to heaven like that statement says.

  • Anonymous

“You cannot prove a negative” is itself a negative. So, if it were true, it would itself be unprovable. Any claim can be transformed into a negative by a little rephrasing—most obviously, by negating the claim and then negating it again. “I exist” is logically equivalent to “I do not not exist,” which is a negative.

You misunderstand the use of ‘X’ in Xtian and Xmas. The “X” comes from the Greek letter Chi, which is the first letter of the Greek word Χριστός which comes into English as “Christ.” The offense taken by the ‘X’ is merely due to Western interpretation of the meaning of of ‘X’ instead of understanding that it is the representation of the Greek letter Chi.

Jesse, the logical conclusion of any empirical research regarding the existence of God is to be ‘agnostic’ rather than ‘atheist’. I personally believe that zealots and atheists are two sides of the same coin. Both proclaim something for which they have no definitive proof.

For atheism, consider this question: how much does humanity know and understand about the universe around us? 10%, 1%, 0.1%? Considering that until Edwin Hubble looked through the Hooker Telescope in 1922 and discovered extragalactic cosmology, everyone believed that the Milky Way galaxy was the entire universe [less than 100 years ago!], I suspect humanity really definitively knows very little about the universe. So to speak so definitively regarding whether or not something does or does not exist is actually quite presumption. An ‘I don’t know’ attitude is obviously one that is more open-minded, inquisitive, and obviously willing to consider proof should something come under consideration.

For the zealots, I would just say that they are, by definition, caught up in certainty because of their faith. In reality those who believe in God do so by faith. In the Christian sense, even their Bible claims “without faith it is impossible to please God” (Hebrews 11:6). If one has definitive proof of God’s existence, there is no room for faith – “faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see” (Hebrews 11:1).

To be a good Christian, one must live by faith. To be a good atheist, one must actually be an agnostic, or you might as well just deny the inquisitive nature of the Western idea of the ‘Scientific Method’ altogether.

  • Soldier_Wife

Go tell a Muslim Allah doesn’t exist and quit forcing your beliefs upon others. People like you are always bashing Christians for praising their God, and then come along and try to force your hatred on everyone else. If you see a comment about God, keep scrolling and ignore it. There is no need for you to try and degrade another person. No matter what religion or lack thereof. We are all human and if this world is ever going to get better, people like yourself need to start accepting that. The commenter Me did not say anything disrespectful to you or to anyone else. He/She wrote a comment on her/his opinion. While your response is your opinion, it was extremely rude and uncalled for. You could have made your very own comment on this lovely story about how wonderful science is to bring this man back to life. Instead you chose the coward and ignorant method. If Atheists and Agnostics want to start gaining a better public opinion of themselves, it starts with you. Just b/c we don’t believe, does not mean we have to downgrade others that do. We accept them for who and what they are, just as they should accept us. And the 47 people that liked this comment are another part of the problem. You and every other attacking Christians and other religious people are the reason we are portrayed as bullies. You want to gain respect? Start showing it!

Kind of similar to the way some religious people argue against gay marriage. What harm is it to you that he doesn’t believe in a God? All these comments about how he is in the wrong assigning him judgment seem a little hypocritical. An individual’s spiritual relationship is just that, individual. Some people seem more concerned with convincing others than they do nurturing that spiritual relationship.

Absolutely. My understanding of science , physics, chemistry etc helps me understand many of the things you might consider to be miracles. Its a lot easier for me to grasp that than it is to grasp the concept that we are basicslly an experiment to see if we will succumb to our own evills or that we are pawns between two forces, one always tempting us and the other throwing us curve balls to see how we will react and if we will still believe in his omnipotence. That, to me is kind of sadistic in theory. I’m not downing those who choose to follow religious teachings. I actually respect you for holding firm to your beliefs. Just not my cup of tea is all. And I realize I could be off base, but for now, I’m firm with my beliefs.
