Glenn may have finally had it as Barack Obama's speech cause quite a reaction in him today. First, he railed against the speech on radio, pointing out how much the President and other progressives love invoke Teddy Roosevelt - one of the earliest progressives in American history. There were points that it seemed like his head would explode and blood would poor out of his eyeballs. But aside from some possible blown out sound equipment (it can only take so much screaming) - Glenn made it out OK. No head explosions. No blood out of the eyes, ears, nose or anywhere else. He survived...for about five and a half hours.
Ladies and gentleman - mark it in your calendar.12/7/2012 5:24pm ET - the progressives (and the overall insanity of the nation) may have broken Glenn Beck.
What was it that set him off?
Now, just as there was in Teddy Roosevelt's time, there is a certain crowd in Washington who, for the last few decades, have said, let's respond to this economic challenge with the same old tune. "The market will take care of everything," they tell us. If we just cut more regulations and cut more taxes – especially for the wealthy – our economy will grow stronger. Sure, they say, there will be winners and losers. But if the winners do really well, then jobs and prosperity will eventually trickle down to everybody else. And, they argue, even if prosperity doesn't trickle down, well, that's the price of liberty. Now, it's a simple theory. And we have to admit, it's one that speaks to our rugged individualism and our healthy skepticism of too much government. That's in America's DNA. And that theory fits well on a bumper sticker. But here's the problem: It doesn't work. It has never worked. It didn't work when it was tried in the decade before the Great Depression. It's not what led to the incredible postwar booms of the 50s and 60s. And it didn't work when we tried it during the last decade. I mean, understand, it's not as if we haven't tried this theory.
Remember in those years, in 2001 and 2003, Congress passed two of the most expensive tax cuts for the wealthy in history. And what did it get us? The slowest job growth in half a century. Massive deficits that have made it much harder to pay for the investments that built this country and provided the basic security that helped millions of Americans reach and stay in the middle class – things like education and infrastructure, science and technology, Medicare and social security
So basically what Barack Obama is saying is that competition is bad. After all, we can't have winners because not everyone can be a winner. Instead, it's up to government to come in and make sure we are all equal. We can all reach and stay in the middle class. The lowest will rise and the highest will fall - until we're all in the middle. And equal - we have to all be equal (Note - there is NO socialist rhetoric in that at all! None! Right comrade?)
Obama is arguing for the same things that parents teach there kids now. There are no losers! We all win! We all get a trophy. Yay?
Glenn is not taking that.
So what does he do? The only sane thing - smash a participation trophy of course.
How did it unfold? Here's a photo essay:
Glenn watches Obama
Glenn gets mad and tells the viewer!
Then he gets mad because little Timmy wants a participation trophy!
So he takes the trophy...
...and he smashes it....
... a LOT!
Glenn showed that trophy who was boss!
After all that chaos, Jack came out to check Glenn's blood pressure
Jack told Glenn to take it easy...no more smashing trophies or other crazy antics!
So Glenn decided it was best to turn off all the lights. Less stress and better for the environment. Thanks Obama!
