It would be hard to find anyone willing to hold the job of White House Press Secretary over the last two weeks. Americans has watched Jay Carney, squirm, dodge, and side step question after question since details about the IRS, AP, and Benghazi scandals were released one after the other. The self-described "most transparent" administration ceases to exist (at least to those who once thought it did).
Last Thursday, Jay Carney appeared on Piers Morgan where he delivered his least create and most laughable excuse to the scandals yet: 'they don't exist,' they're 'contrived by Republicans.'
"Obviously the president made a big deal when he came into office of being not like previous administrations and was going to be much more transparent. The charge today after this week is that you have had that reputation for transparency pretty heavily dented. Do you accept that? And just on a general picture, how are you going to move on now and restore perhaps faith that some Americans have lost this week in your openness and honesty?" Piers asked the Press Secretary"Well, I'm not sure, again, you're concocting scandals here that don't exist, especially with regards to the Benghazi affair that was contrived by Republicans…"
Watch the clip from Piers Morgan Tonight below:
"Wow," Stu responded upon hearing the clip. "The 'contrived' funeral must have been something serious. When the Republicans contrived the funerals for those four people…"
"Remember, what it is [they're doing] is to make it into something that doesn't even exist," Glenn noted. "Make it all about conspiracy or politics."
Which is exactly what the administration has done since the scandals broke. It an attempt to keep their public approval ratings and trust high, they've panned every scandals as a right vs. left attack. It's not about the scandal anymore, it's now about Republicans and Democrats — a strategy that has generally worked for them.
"So it's either a vast rightwing conspiracy — that's Hillary Clinton — vast rightwing conspiracy, or it just doesn't exist. It just didn't happen. It is only because of politics," Glenn said. "These evil Republicans who are doing it."
And while the Obama administration has had success keeping their public approval ratings high with this strategy, Glenn thinks there is a change coming. One of the big differences on the issues the White House is up against currently are that they are issues that pass party lines.
"There's a change coming," Glenn stated.
"These guys have done so much damage that it's not ever going back to the way it was. It never will. You have to restart it. It has to really be rebooted and we have to start planting those seeds in the hearts of people now."
