Both George Orwell & Aldous Huxley predicted we’d live in a surveillance state under oppressive regimes - the only difference was how we got there. With each story that surfaces it is clear that both were right. On radio Glenn played the shocking audio of a call between a bullying IRS agent and a representative from a pro-life group, just more evidence that the people are losing their power to an out of control government.
In A Brave New World, Aldous Huxley created a world where people gave away their freedom to the state for the things they loved, not the things they needed. They were kept pacified by a stream of irrelevant entertainment that distracted them from the real issues and took drugs that kept them serene and numb.
Meanwhile in his book 1984, George Orwell warned that an oppressive government would create a totalitarian state by restricting speech and controlling the flow of information.
"Huxley was right," Glenn said noting how people have traded freedom and independence for their frivolous desires.
"But so was George Orwell, in the end," Glenn said.
The NSA scandal is just one example of how "Big Brother" has taken a hold of America. He pointed to a phone call between an IRS agent and a pro-life group seeking 501(c)3 status.
TheBlaze reported on the IRS story:
Alliance Defending Freedom, a pro-life legal group, released audio on Monday of a conversation between Ania Joseph, president of Pro-Life Revolution, and Sherry Wan, an Internal Revenue Service (IRS) agent. The Texas-based pro-life group offers counseling to mothers who are considering abortion. The group also seeks to educate scared soon-to-be mothers on the possible long-term physical and psychological ramifications of abortion.
Wan lectured Joseph on the group’s mission and told the pro-life leader that she needs to “know [her] boundaries.”
“You cannot force your religion or force your beliefs on somebody else,” Wan told Joseph in a nearly 10-minute phone conversation.
You can watch the video of the conversation below and read the full transcript.
Glenn couldn't believe their argument.
"They don't respect my right to free speech or they wouldn't be trying to shut us down through the IRS. They don't respect it at all, so don't lecture me about this. We're not talking about trying to shut someone down," Glenn said. "We are small government people. We are asking to dismantle this gigantic oppressive government so all people have a right to speak out, all people."
