CNN’s Ashleigh Banfield is certainly not known to have conservative leanings, but during an interview with Congressman Charlie Rangel (D-NY) yesterday, Banfield proved to be remarkably rational.
“Here's Charlie Rangel being too ridiculous for leftist Ashleigh Banfield,” Glenn said on radio this morning.
“Here's the most amazing thing. And I believe this is on the debt ceiling, only the debt ceiling, not Obamacare, but only the debt ceiling, I believe the Republicans should cave,” Glenn said. “I believe the Republicans should give the debt ceiling and make some deal to extend it another year or whatever only because I believe you are dealing with Christopher Walken in The Deer Hunter. I think the president will pull the damn trigger.”
“He was already on CNBC. Instead of being calm and saying, ‘The world has nothing to worry about,’ which they don't. The world has nothing to worry about. We will pay our debts. I mean not forever because eventually this game is up, you know. So it's only a matter of time, and he knows that. And that's why he's looking for someone to blame it on because we could have this thing collapse on us next week, in a year from now. David Buckner told us that it would be a year from now that this thing collapses,” he continued. “So he's looking for a reason to collapse it and blame it on the TEA Party and blame it on the Republicans. So they should cave on the debt ceiling at this point. Until they can get their ass together – I'm sorry, did I say ass – act together and actually have a vision that people understand.”
By Glenn’s definition, “cave” would ideally mean a two or three month delay of the debt ceiling debate, which would push the current conversation off until January or February 2014. But he is doubtful President Obama would agree to such terms.
“Can you just extend it for a short period of time, though,” Stu asked.
“Oh, I'd like that. But the president won't do it. The president said he wouldn't do it. That's why I say he's The Deer Hunter. He will pull the trigger.”
