President Obama’s Christian faith has been called into over the course of his five years in office, and during an appearance on Bill Maher’s Real Time, evolutionary biologist and avowed atheist Richard Dawkins added fuel to that fire by insisting he is “sure” President Obama is an atheist.
MAHER: You share my belief that Pope Frank is secretly an atheist?
“Hold on a second. Pope Frank,” Glenn asked.
“Oh, that's his respectful way to say ‘Pope Francis,’” Pat quipped.
DAWKINS: Like many people, I’m sure Obama is an atheist. I'm sure Kennedy was an atheist. But I doubt if Pope Frank is, no. He's obviously -- he's obviously a nice man, therefore a rather dangerous man. We don't want nice men in the Vatican.
“Can you imagine if I said that the president was an atheist,” Glenn questioned. “Can you imagine if I said that John F. Kennedy was an atheist? Oh my gosh! And I said ‘Pope Frank’ is a problem? Holy cow.”
“I will say, though, I think this is the widespread belief of the intellectuals on the left, you know, the media types on the left who say, you know, ‘Look, yeah, I know he says he's a Christian but he's not that stupid. In reality he's with us. He doesn't believe in this nonsense. He just knows he has to say it. He's a politician.’”
“Bill Maher believes that, and obviously so does Richard Dawkins,” Pat said. “And they also believe that all Christians believe that the Earth is 5,000 years old.”
