A few days ago, Kathie Lee from the Today Show flew down to Dallas, TX to interview Glenn about his new book Miracles and Massacres. In their interview, Glenn discussed how his kid's education inspired him to take a new approach to telling history stories and responded to some of the outrageous claims of some of his critics.
"This started when I was with my daughters when they were very, very young and I'd pick them up from school and I asked them what they learned today. And I realize they were just memorizing dates and names. That's horribles," Glenn said. "With Miracles & Massacres we're trying to tell the story. We're trying to connect you to amazing pieces of history."
"American history is not what you think it is. Even if you hate America it's not what you think it is. If you love America, it's not what you think it is," Glenn said.
He added that he hopes people recognize that miracles often come from individuals, while the massacres often originate with the collective,.
When Kathie Lee asked Glenn how he felt about how he is demonized by his critics, Glenn said he doesn't give it much thought anymore. "If it neither picks my pocket nor break my leg, what difference does it make to me," Glenn said quoting Jefferson.
On the radio show this morning, Glenn thanked Kathie Lee for interviewing him for the Today Show.
"She is really an amazing woman," he said.
