From those who wish to sugar-coat American history and ignore her past mistakes to those who blame her for all the world’s problems, there has always been an angle. Glenn seeks to change all that in his latest book that is equal parts thrilling and truthful. Miracles and Massacres: True and Untold Stories of the Making of America offers an unfiltered look at the making of America
Below, Glenn looks back at the 1930s and 40s and asks people to consider what leads people to the evils of The Holocaust.

It is important to understand our history. It is important to understand that most people don’t go evil overnight. They slowly are led to evil, and they go dead inside. And they usually start off on a path that is promised to be something great, something that’s going to help people.
How did the people of the world round up people like Anne Frank? This is a first edition of Anne Frank’s book, signed by Miep, the woman in house with her. How did they put badges on them for homosexuals and say that homosexuals were wrong or for gypsies or for Jews? How did they categorize them?
How did they make them wear prison uniforms wearing a purple triangle which stood for you were a Bible scholar? How did that happen? Well, slowly is the answer and through compassion. It started actually with a baby named Baby Knauer. Baby Knauer was born without limbs, was blind, and everybody was made to feel really bad about the family.
They were made to feel really bad about how these parents could even do that, and beyond that, what kind of life would little Baby Knauer have? This was an idea of exterminating or letting the weak die, and it was an idea that came from America, a film called the Black Stork and eugenics, better living through eugenics, getting rid of the undesirables and having them stop be a burden on so many.
This was a whip used by a guard. I rarely even touch it, used by a guard in Auschwitz to beat people. How did they get there? Compassion, we all know that Josef Mengele was a horrible, horrible human being, right, the guy who was doing experiments. He was doing experiments at Auschwitz. How did that happen? Well, he was Doctor Mengele.
He was put in charge of the Kaiser Wilhelm Institute. That was for children. His job was to help them, to make sure they didn’t have suffering. This is one of the last documents he signed before he went to Auschwitz. This is actually a prescription for Luminal, a sleeping drug. He bought it by the drums to put children down. He was so effective at killing the defective children that he later went to Auschwitz.
