Do you ever get frustrated how everything is becoming the same in America? The same shops, the same restaurants, the same big box stores. Who wants that? What makes life exciting is it's always an adventure, it's always different. On radio Glenn said towns were losing the qualities that made them special and unique...but not everyone agreed.
The discussion started when Glenn talked about why he doesn't want to go Christmas shopping because everything is the same.
"You know why you don't want to go Christmas shopping? Because it's all the same. Every store is the same. Every mall is the same. Every downtown is the same. This is the craziest thing about our country. We are doing that to ourselves."
"All the teachers will be the same. All of our medical insurance will be the same, all the doctors will be the same, all the people will be the same. Every company will be the same. Who wants any of that?" Glenn said.
"I mean, it goes back to the Tower of Babel when, let's make people into bricks. Let's make people into bricks, and if we make people into bricks, we can make a tower to reach the sky. Who does that glorify? That glorifies the leaders. If you make all the people just the same, you can get them to do anything and then they will build a tower to the sky for... the leaders. No thank you," said.
Stu, however, didn't agree with Glenn.
"You get on these kicks where you always say that every mall's the same and every downtown's the same and, look, I like the local charm. There's nothing wrong with it, but you sound anti-chain store, anti-corporation, you sound like one of those people when you say that," Stu said.
"I'm not at all. I mean, I want the mix. I do like the local restaurants. Some of them are great. But you know what else? I really like frickin' chain restaurants. I like when I walk in there and I can depend on the quality of the product and I don't have to guess. I like it," Stu continued.
For now, Glenn said that the unique, "mom and pop" stores are going ti be found on the internet in places like Etsy or The Marketplace.
"We now have the opportunity through the Internet, if they don't destroy it in Washington, we now have the Internet which allows you to create whatever it is you want. I want to go find something unique," Glenn said. "You can spend the time and find exactly what you're looking for in something completely unique. And it's great. It's totally great. That's the future."
"The opportunity that's in front of us now is pure freedom."
