During an appearance on Ronan Farrow’s MSNBC show on Monday, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) made a bold declaration: Democrats never treated President George W. Bush as poorly as Republicans treat President Barack Obama.
“We never treated President Bush the way they treat President Obama,” Pelosi said. “It’s no use whining about it, we just have to get people out to vote.”
Needless to say, that statement is a bit of a stretch. On radio this morning, Pat compiled some of the nastier things Dems said about Bush – including a gem from Pelosi herself in which she called the former president a “total failure.”
Glenn believes Pelosi genuinely believes Democrats did not treat Bush poorly because she is convinced her party was right and Bush was wrong. Likewise, now that she believes Obama is on the right side of history, Republicans criticizing the President must be wrong.
Regardless of her logic, however, Glenn questioned whether or not there is any benefit in pointing out the flaws in Pelosi’s argument.
“So what are we trying to gain out of this? Because we all know. We are preaching to the choir on this,” Glenn said. “So what do we get out of this other than more frustration?”
While Glenn admitted it is important to play the audio and hold people accountable for what they say, he said it is equally important to ensure we are not guilty of the same thing.
“Let’s make sure we don’t become like that,” Glenn concluded. “We can stand up for truth, but we don’t have to call names. Let’s just stand up for truth and make sure we also recognize what we are saying.”
