Another day, another gaffe by Vice President Joe Biden. During a speech, Biden referred to bankers as "shylocks", an anti-Semitic slur for the Jewish people. Glenn couldn't believe it, nor could he believe the silence on the part of the media. Glenn made an impassioned plea on radio for people to wake up and see who these people in power truly are, and not to dismiss them or their remarks.
"People would come to him and talk about what was happening to them at home in terms of foreclosures, in terms of bad loans that were being — I mean, these Shylocks who took advantage of these women and men while overseas," Biden said.
"Let me give you the very famous quote from Shylock, the Shylock monologue from 'Merchant of Venice'," Glenn said.
He hath disgraced me, and hindered me half a million; laughed at my losses, mocked at my gains, scorned my nation, thwarted my bargains, cooled my friends, heated mine enemies; and what's his reason? I am a Jew. Hath not a Jew eyes? hath not a Jew hands, organs, dimensions, senses, affections, passions? fed with the same food, hurt with the same weapons, subject to the same diseases, healed by the same means, warmed and cooled by the same winter and summer, as a Christian is? If you prick us, do we not bleed? if you tickle us, do we not laugh?
"I actually read somebody say, this was outrageous. Somebody said, it's a welcome distraction from what's really going on. It's a welcome distraction? How do you think this White House is dealing with Israel? Where do you think they stand with Israel?" Glenn said. "I can guarantee you that if I said that and I made that same comment, I could guarantee you I would be run out of the media. This is inexcusable. And for the -- for the Jewish community to not care at this time -- do you not remember? Do you not remember how it all started in the past? Do you not see what's happening? Are you not watching?"
