Over the weekend, Glenn posted the below on his Facebook page on the state of the media. More to come this week on TheBlaze TV
I’ve been with the kids for the last three days without Tania and so I’ve watched all of their Disney channel viewing. The more I watch the more I’m insulted and horrified by the crap they’re being fed. this is Disney? Is there anyone in media that has children? Is there anybody in media that believes they have some sort of responsibility? Is there anyone in the media that actually looks at children as children and not consumers or mini adults. I read an article last week about Steve Jobs, before he died an interviewer asked him, “how do your kids feel about the iPad and the iPhone?” He answered “I don’t know, we don’t allow them in the house and the kids don’t use them.”
Shouldn’t that tell us something? The guy who created it knows how dangerous it can be. I find myself in this strange diametrically opposed position. I love new technology. I love great entertainment. Yet the entertainment is wholly inappropriate, at times almost to the point of poisonous to our children, and technology seems to enhance our loss of control of whats in our home. I think it was Pope Pius back in the 50’s that said, “television has put Satan’s eye in our homes.” I would suggest that that message isn’t just for the catholics, that message is for all of us and it is no longer just his eye, its his mouth, its his mind, its his hands.
Our children need to be fed something good. As I posted something the other day I noticed how many parents are saying the same exact thing. It doesn’t matter what political background or how religious or areligious you might be. Its not about religion and its not about politics, its about principles, common decency, and common sense. American Dream Labs posted this on their site. If you feel the way I feel please share this and join me next week.
