One of the big stories this week was the challenge to John Boehner's position as Speaker of the House. Several strong conservatives, most notably Louie Gohmert, challenged him for his leadership. Glenn called for his audience to call their congressman to oust Boehner, but at the same time many Republicans - including Chris Stewart, Mia Love, and Trey Gowdy - supported the Speaker. Why? Is Glenn missing something? He wanted to know, so he invited Speaker Boehner to come on the show, answer his questions, and show just how dedicated he is to the anti-establishment views of the real conservatives.
"Here's my offer," Glenn said. "John Boehner is freaking out, and he's saying, what pains me -- what hurts me so much, I cry myself to sleep at night because I'm the real deal. I am not the establishment guy."
"Okay. John, arguably, there aren't many shows that appeal to the Tea Party crowd, the nonestablishment G.O.P. as much as this one. So I am offering, and I want [producer] Keith to put in a formal information to John Boehner's office today. I'm going to have Tiffany from television do the same thing. We are putting an official invite to John Boehner to come down, spend an hour with me on radio or on television. He can have his choice. Whichever he wants."
"If he's just too darn busy, he can call in on the radio program. We'll work it to his schedule. But I would love to spend an hour with John Boehner."
"John, you and your cronies can ask anyone. I have never sandbagged anyone. I always tell them in advance what they're in for," Glenn said. "I will tell John Boehner, it will be a tough interview, but it will be a fair interview. I will let you speak, but it is going to be a tough interview, but you will have a fair interview. I do not sandbag people."
