Glenn was optimistic today after reading a fantastic piece in left leaning The Atlantic about the group ISIS and their motivations. It’s exactly what Glenn has been saying for years, which he has been made fun of for, but truth no one on the left was willing to echo. Looks like they’re starting to play catch up -- a good sign for us, bad for ISIS.
"I come bearing good news today," Glenn said at the start of the show. "We're actually at a point soon where I think we can begin to have a conversation of what's really going on in the world and actually talk about facts and not engage in this, you know, hatemonger accusation back and forth. That we're soon at a place to where we can talk about the real facts. And I think it's happening because things are getting worse."
Glenn's optimism came from an article published in The Atlantic by Graeme Wood called "What ISIS Really Wants". Wood writes, "The Islamic State is no mere collection of psychopaths. It is a religious group with carefully considered beliefs, among them that it is a key agent of the coming apocalypse."
Glenn read some of the highlights on air, including, "We have misunderstood the nature of the Islamic State in at least two ways. First, we tend to see jihadism as monolithic, and to apply the logic of al‑Qaeda to an organization that has decisively eclipsed it...We are misled in a second way, by a well-intentioned but dishonest campaign to deny the Islamic State’s medieval religious nature."
"This guy has done his own homework. And he has come to the same conclusions that quite honestly we were talking about at CNN," Glenn said.
"When you believe you are a warrior for the end times...You do everything you can to cause chaos and massive bloodshed. This is why they're making these movies on the beach, beheading 21 Christians on the beach. Because they want everybody to see."
