It may seem like an oddball comparison - and in many ways it is. But Glenn sees many similarities between the legendary Tonight Show host and the legendary cable news host. O’Reilly isn’t exactly a jokester, so what do they have in common?
Don't tell Bill O'Reilly that I said so, but Bill has made the final move to cement himself as the closest example of today's Johnny Carson.
Yes, isn't known for jokes but it is his monologue that has kept him number one for going on two decades. This alone makes him not just the same kind of pioneer in a new format but the undisputed king of cable.
But Carson was more than that and so is Bill. As a man who has sold millions of books myself I know how impossible it is to write a book that sells ONE million copies, let alone several books in a series that sell multiple millions each.
Now, he has executive produced not just a documentary on another cable outlet based on one of those books but a two hour television movie to air this Sunday.
Based on his book Killing Jesus his latest effort lands Sunday on Nat Geo. It would find a home just as easily on NBC. Top notch acting and stars. What makes this different that other Jesus movies his his attempt to tell it not just in a biblically accurate but in a historically accurate way perhaps first.
My family and I just watched last night and enjoyed it as your family will on Palm Sunday.
Congratulations Mr. Carson. It is time the rest of the media begins to look at the amazing accomplishments of this very smart media Titan and begins to utter the words:
"Heeeerrrresss, Johnny!"
