There’s been a lot of talk lately about the wage gap between men and women. Last week, Sarah Silverman released a PSA and shared the story of the time she was paid $50 less than a male comedian for doing the same amount of time at a stand-up set. But when the video went viral, the owner of the comedy club wrote a scathing rebuke on Facebook that calls out a lot of really important details Silverman left out of her story.
Watch the PSA below:
Club owner Al Martin wrote in response:
Are you kidding ? You come in to my club 15 years ago and ask me for a guest spot, I did not ask you to perform and you were not booked, and Then you ask me for pay ? You asked to work out some material ..
Then you make this a gender pay thing ? Sarah great cause I am with it, but I did not pay you less cause of gender …..I paid you less because Todd Barry was booked and you weren’t…It was a GUEST SPOT, so I gave you some car fare, which actually is more than almost any club would have given for a GUEST Spot…Funny how in your attempt to become a super hero with a noble cause, you forgot that little fact…GUEST SPOT ….GUEST SPOT
"Income inequality, it's real, except when it's not," Glenn said.
"What kills me, I was on the ['The Tonight Show' with Jay Leno]. Okay. And because I'm a conservative. I was given a tie and I think $500. Jay Leno made $16 million," Glenn joked. "Just because I'm a conservative."
"She has her whole life to find an example, and she comes up with the one that is bogus and not even real. That's pretty pathetic," Pat added.
