While common sense says kids should be able to go to the nearby park without a parent holding their hand, there are those who take things a bit too far. Like the parent who left their 8-year-old at home alone while they were hanging out in a whole other state. But don’t worry, the kid knew taekwondo so it was all good. Or not.
A 27-year-old mother from Virginia was arrested Sunday for allegedly leaving her 8-year-old son home alone as she traveled two states away for the Memorial Day weekend.

The boy’s mother, later identified as Kionna Moret, was in South Carolina, according to the news station. She was taken into police custody and the boy was in the care of Child Protective Services.
Moret faces child neglect and endangerment charges, and the neighbor who alerted the authorities told WAVY she hopes Moret is retrained in parenting before her son is returned to her.
Pat said he would have done the same thing as the neighbor in the story, who immediately alerted authorities once she figured out the child had been left alone. He would not have confronted the parents first.
"Are you telling me a neighbor leaves their 8-year-old at home alone for the weekend and you're not going to call CPS and say 'hey, there's a kid, I have them in my house now, but they were left alone for the weekend," Pat said.
"I'm calling the police. Absolutely they have to be notified," Pat said. "That's an unfit parent. Please. There's a lot of stories about CPS getting involved in situations they have no business being anywhere near. This isn't one of them."
