Glenn spoke with Scott Simon on NPR over the weekend, discussing the popularity of Donald Trump and why Glenn doesn't support him personally. As he's expressed before, Glenn emphasized Trump is not truly a conservative.
Then why do Republicans seem to like him so much?
"He is not a politician, he is saying the populous things right now," Glenn told Simon. "They want somebody just to say it just the way they think it, especially if they say it in a non politically correct way."
When Simon asked why Glenn doesn't consider Trump to be a conservative, here's what Glenn had to say.
"I haven't heard him talk about the Constitution or small government. It's hard to say you espouse conservative principles and small government principles when you are saying you think the Canadian healthcare system works and is wonderful," Glenn said.
Glenn went on to say he looks for someone with integrity and humility, rooted in the constitutional principles. Why?
"Because if you root yourself in the Constitution, we can't go too far left and we can't go too far right. We're held by principles we all used to declare we found self evident," Glenn said.
