On radio Monday, Glenn described a character in his new Christmas book, The Immortal Nicholas, based on a legendary European "anti-santa" named Krampus.
Legend has it Krampus was a devil-like character who would punish naughty children, not by leaving lumps of coal in their stockings, but rather beating them with sticks and dragging them to hell.
Glenn said Krampus appears in his book too, but as a "gentle giant" instead of a devil.
"I thought, 'If it's 2,000 years ago, what's a devil?' Who is perceived as a devil? I think the handicapped," Glenn said. "I think somebody with like Down syndrome, who couldn't speak. Must be possessed. So we made a gentle giant."
Listen to Glenn describe more details behind the story in the clip below.
