If push comes to shove and Donald Trump does become the Republican nominee, both Glenn and Stu adamantly proclaimed on radio Thursday they would never vote for him. Pat wasn't so sure. Given a choice between Trump and Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders, he'd vote for Trump on his immigration stance alone.
After enduring a sound talking to by Glenn and Stu, Pat defended his position, emphasizing how we're a long way off from Trump actually winning the nomination.
This prompted Glenn to bring up Trump's interview with MSNBC Wednesday, where he defended his immigration plan and shared new details on his plan to deport millions of illegal immigrants.
"Let's go through this line by line. Let's see if you can get on board with this," Glenn challenged Pat.
Having taken a black marker to a transcript of Trump's interview, Glenn redacted Trump's response to a short paragraph that might actually sound reasonable --- along with three key points about why Trump is on top of the polls.
Number 1: He's saying what we're all thinking.
"Step one is cut through all the crap. He's still saying enough of the stuff that we're all saying, okay?" Glenn said.
Number 2: He connects with the anger people are feeling.
"You have to look through a lot of bullcrap, but that's all they're hearing because he also says the visceral thing that we're all feeling," Glenn said.
Number 3: He has a track record on TV.
"There's nothing more powerful than a guy who can be on camera and look into that camera and communicate with that camera. And he's done it for five or six years in a number one show, where he was in control," Glenn said.
