It's hard to believe, but it's been nearly 40 years since "Mean" Joe Green limped down a stadium tunnel and guzzled down a bottle of Coca-Cola after a hard day on the field. The iconic Super Bowl ad features the Pittsburgh Steeler in his heyday with an adoring a 9-year-old fan offering up his Coca-Cola to the football star. The unlikely duo have reunited in a new video honoring the famous commercial.
The video was shot for the upcoming Super Bowl's Greatest Commercials 2016 special on CBS and features the NFL legend and a grown-up Tommy Okon meeting at Apogee Stadium in Denton, Texas. The two reminisce about filming the Clio Award-winning commercial, which debuted in October 1979 and aired again during Super Bowl XIV in 1980.
Greene gets sentimental when he and Okon re-enact the commercial in the new video. "Still special, after all these years," he says, wiping tears from his eyes.
"Not so mean," Tommy says, patting his friend on the back. "Not so mean, this guy."
Super Bowl's Greatest Commercials 2016 airs Tuesday, Feb. 2 at 8:00 PM ET on CBS.
