The Context
Fox News personality Bill O'Reilly, shared the two most shocking political stories of his lifetime on his show earlier this week.
"The two most shocking political stories in my lifetime are the assassination of President John Kennedy and the rise to political prominence of one, Donald J. Trump," O'Reilly said.
It's no surprise Glenn had a lot to say about this statement on his radio show Friday morning.
Listen to this segment from The Glenn Beck Program. Start at 1:42:50.
Benefit of the Doubt
As dramatic as his statement was, there's enough wiggle room you could make a case for what he was saying --- and Glenn tried his best to give O'Reilly the benefit of the doubt.
"Okay, shocking and political. Maybe I could give him that," Glenn said. "Because I don't think any of us were shocked at the blue dress with Bill Clinton."
But then O'Reilly kept talking.
This Is Where It Get's Absurd
Had O'Reilly just ended there, Glenn could have simply agreed to disagree. One not known for holding back a strong opinion, O'Reilly continued to push the envelope.
"History will record that this was an uprising, a movement of the people supporting a candidate who has absolutely no ties to the political establishment," O'Reilly said.
Co-host Pat Gray couldn't hold back his disbelief.
"Wait. What? Absolutely no ties?" Pat said. "He has ties to absolutely everyone in the establishment."
Glenn attempted to offer some clarification.
"He's not tied as a candidate, but he is tied directly to the system that is totally corrupt," Glenn said. "So neither of those are surprising. It is the uprising of the people and their support of this guy."
The Grassroots Are the Real Story
O'Reilly actually did figure out what the biggest story has been, but he gave the credit to the completly wrong source.
"He's giving Trump the credit," Glenn said. "The only thing that he said that was accurate in this was the uprising of the people is one of the most shocking and newsworthy political stories in my lifetime. The rise of the Tea Party."
Glenn continued.
"Donald Trump is not a product of that uprising. And the media has completely missed the products of that uprising. And they dismissed us when we were all in the mall in Washington. They didn't listen to a word we were saying," Glenn said.
The Common Sense Bottom Line
This election cycle could very well end up in the history books, but it's not because of Donald Trump. The grassroots that were fed up with a corrupt political system and went to work to serve their fellow Americans will be our modern founding fathers.
"I don't see the Donald Trump as a political story. I see it as a cultural story," Glenn said. "Donald Trump's rise to the top tells me more about --- and this is what I'm ashamed of, the rest of the world looks at --- it tells you more about the American people than our political process."
So what is the real reason people in the media find this "shocking"?
"The reason why people in the media find this so shocking about --- about Donald Trump --- is because they dismissed and belittled all of the people all across the country," Glenn said.
