STERLING, Va.—Ohio Gov. John Kasich will announce he is suspending his GOP presidential campaign Wednesday afternoon, an aide said, leaving New York businessman Donald Trump as the last Republican standing in the race for the White House.
Mr. Kasich’s departure from the campaign came after he abruptly canceled a planned appearance at a private airport terminal in suburban Washington. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz ended his campaign Tuesday night.
Mr. Kasich had planned to host a series of fundraising events in the Washington area Wednesday, but planned attendance diminished after Mr. Trump’s commanding victory in Indiana’s primary, an aide said.
