New York Times bestselling author Brad Thor is used to ruffling feathers --- and he's done it again with an open letter posted on his Facebook page. Thor joined The Glenn Beck Program on Tuesday to explain his very vocal opposition to a Trump presidency and where his loyalties lie.
"I wrote a piece on my Facebook page saying that, throughout history, at pivotal moments, charismatic people have appeared," Thor said. "Some of them have been good and led their nations forward. And some have been bad and taken their nations backwards. And I said that our greatest responsibility as Americans is not to ourselves, not to political parties, but to the future generations of America."
While he's very much opposed to Trump, Thor does not see a bright sunny next term either way --- whether it's Hillary or Donald.
"My job in this election as a steward of this Republic, as a voter, is to say, what is the safest harbor for liberty in the storms that we are going to experience over the next four years, whether it's president Hillary or President Trump. It will be dark. It will be stormy. And liberty needs to be safe. And that was the basis for my essay on Facebook," Thor said.
Thor is facing significant pushback over what he wrote, but Glenn couldn't help notice how civil the complaints have been compared to his own Facebook page when posting about Trump.
"Holy cow, are people polite to you. But they are saying the same thing time and time again, and that is, well, you've got to pick one, Brad. Because one of them is going to win," Glenn said.
"Well, that's what - that's what they say. One of them is going to win. I take a longer view of this, in my view, is that history will judge all of us and what we do... Trump has all the historic hallmarks of becoming a dictator. That's not a safe harbor for liberty. And I hate Hillary Clinton's guts, but the safest place for liberty may be a Hillary Clinton presidency," Thor said.
"And I closed my essay talking about Alexander Hamilton, who hated his choices in the election of 1800. And Hamilton said, 'Better we have somebody in the Oval Office who we all can oppose and who we are not responsible for.'"
All things considered, does that mean Thor will be voting for Hillary come November?
"I am not -- no. It would be -- first of all, I was on Fox with a Democrat strategist, Jessica Tarlov. And she said, 'I'll drive you to the polls.' I said, 'Yeah, I know you Democrats do that.' I said, 'I'm going to need a driver if I vote for Hillary. I'll be so drunk as I roll in,'" Thor said.
He won't be voting for her, but --- drunk or not --- he still stands firm in the "devil you know is better than the devil you don't."
"Listen, Hillary is a Progressive," Thor said. "We know what Hillary will do. We know that Hillary will attempt to enlarge the state and enlarge its power. She is Obama in a pantsuit. I get it. She's about herself. She is conniving. I know what Hillary is. I know what we'll get with her."
