A promising new face on the political landscape has emerged. Darryl Glenn, currently El Paso County Commissioner in Colorado Springs, is a 21-year veteran of the U.S military with an MBA and law degree. Commissioner Glenn was recently endorsed by former presidential candidate Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) in his bid for the U.S. Senate. He spoke with Glenn Friday on The Glenn Beck Program.
"So, Darrell, tell me a little about yourself. Why are you running? Where do you come from? Who are you?" Glenn asked.
Commissioner Glenn proceeded to detail his impressive resume.
"Well, I grew up in a military family. My father spent 26 years in the Air Force. When he finished, my mother actually went in as a nurse in the Army, and she likes to make the joke that she was the first one to make lieutenant colonel in the family and holds that over my head," Commissioner Glenn said.
After retiring as a lieutenant colonel, he got involved in local politics.
"I was on city council for eight years, and I'm currently a county commissioner, won my last reelection with over 80 percent of the vote. Have an MBA and a law degree, so don't hold that against me," he joked.
"Holy cow. Where did you go to school?" Glenn asked.
"I went to, while I was in the military, Western New England College for my MBA and New England School of Law for my law degree," Commissioner Glenn answered.
To put the proverbial icing on the cake, Commissioner Glenn describes himself in a very red, white and blue kind of way.
"I proudly proclaim that I'm an unapologetic Christian, constitutional, pro-life, Second Amendment-loving American," Commissioner Glenn said.
In addition to the endorsement from Ted Cruz, Commissioner Glenn announced he was just recently endorsed by Dr. James Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family.
Commissioner Glenn has taken a solid constitutional position on the issues facing America, and shared several of his views on immigration and fighting terrorism with Glenn:
• We need a commander-in-chief that actually can say "radical Islamic terrorist."
• We need to be very serious about our immigration policies and get to work in securing out borders.
• We need to cut out policies that encourage people to violate the rule of law.
• We need to clearly state that amnesty is not going to be allowed.
• We need to hold employers accountable for essentially employing illegals.
• We need to get rid of this multiculturalism phase and encourage assimilation.
• We should be proud to be Americans.
• We need to defund the sanctuary cities.
Commissioner Glenn has also taken action on the influx of Syrian refugees in his community.
"I brought forward an emergency resolution that basically suspends all funding to Syrian refugees until they can demonstrate that they aren't a threat to the community. These are your taxpayer dollars as citizens. Everybody should stand up and do the same thing," he said.
In the latest poll seen by Glenn, the commissioner was ahead by five percentage points. Voting for the Colorado senate seat takes place next Tuesday. For more information, visit ElectDarrylGlenn.com.
