Why are first lady Melania Trump’s arms crossed in her official White House portrait? Honestly, we’d given it zero thought, but if pressed for an answer, we’d say she’s a model, she looks like a model, and she poses like a model.
We must have missed something, because the Boston Globe caught wind of a bit of a controversy on social media: what’s with those crossed arms anyway?
The White House released an official portrait of Melania Trump. So what’s with the crossed arms? https://t.co/H7UszrNJjL pic.twitter.com/R2SxcdZimS

To be honest, it’s a bit of a tease. A handful of pro photographers analyze different aspects of the portrait, such as Melania Trump’s ring, the backdrop, her expression, and her pose.
The crossed arms? “If you do it right, you might add a powerful impression, but it often gives you distance,” said portrait photographer Ryuji Suzuki.
So, yeah, that’s what’s up with the arms.
@BostonGlobe So what's with the stupid headline?
