University of Missouri is continuing to see a decline in enrollment, resulting in three dorms shutting down – or more accurately, taken “offline”- until it can be determined if there will be a bump in attendance.
Residential Life Director Frankie Minor stated in an email that “historically every year between now and August, various situations occur that result in position openings, e.g. normal attrition and voluntary staff choices, as well as unplanned academic or personal challenges. If necessary, we will offer alternative employment opportunities at comparable compensation to the remaining staff.”
This downturn in student attendance has been continuing since 2015, when the incident involving university communications professor Melissa Click called for “muscle” to remove a student journalist that was attempting to document the “Concerned Student 1950” protest. The incident made national headlines, resulting in Melissa Click being fired for her actions.
