The Government Spent Money on This Instead of Hurricane Preparations in Miami

Hurricane Irma is projected to make landfall in south Florida, and Miami is unprepared, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency. With Texas still recovering from Tropical Storm Harvey and Florida preparing for Irma, it may be the worst possible moment for FEMA to be running out of funds. FEMA had only $1.01 billion on hand Tuesday morning and is expected to be out of money by Friday, Bloomberg reported.

Where did all the money go? On radio Wednesday, Glenn listed some of the most absurd examples of government spending. Miami hasn’t been hit with a hurricane this deadly in decades, and the area’s flood control system badly needs to be updated.

“Our government has blown through hundreds of billions of dollars of wasteful spending that could have been applied to preparation for Miami,” Glenn said.

In 2016, the government used money to study TV bingewatching, comedy clubs, monkey drool and hamster fights. Half a billion was spent on a radio and TV station in Miami that attempted to broadcast into Cuba even though the country’s communist leadership was blocking the signal.

“What happens when you have a country more concerned with political favors than prioritizing what really matters?” Glenn asked. “It won’t survive.”

GLENN: It won't survive. That is what the former FEMA director said when he was asked how the Miami area would hold up under a severe water surge from a major hurricane related to the flooding: It won't survive.

Hurricane Irma is now on a projected path to make landfall in south Florida, and it could hit Miami this Sunday. It's currently a Category 5, with 185 mile-an-hour winds. It's already the second strongest storm recorded in the Atlantic.

Amazingly, Miami hasn't been hit by a major hurricane, category four or stronger since 1926. That one killed 400 people.

The third deadliest hurricane in US history. But Miami at the time was this quaint little resort compared to what it is today. Yesterday, two firms estimated a repeat of the 1926 Miami hurricane could cause $130 billion in property damage. People are already starting to think about getting out of Miami.

So why is it so dangerous? Well, it's flood control system. It was designed in the 1950s, and it desperately needs updating. It's kind of like what happened with Hurricane Katrina. What was built in the '50s and '60s, no longer any good.

Our government has blown through hundreds of billions of dollars on wasteful spending that could have been applied to preparation for Miami.

Last year, the government found money to study TV binge watching, comedy clubs. Honest to God, we spent money studying monkey drool, fish treadmill endurance testing. I didn't even know they worked on treadmills. They also spent money on hamster fights.

Miami has been the home of a radio and TV station attempting to broadcast into Cuba. It was blocked by Fidel Castro. Half a billion dollars flushed down the toilet, on a radio station and TV station nobody ever watched or heard.

What happens when you have a country more concerned with political favors than prioritizing what really matters? Let me quote FEMA: It won't survive.

YOU will be RESPONSIBLE for loss of rights if you riot

A new poster is circulating social media, calling for a record-breaking armed protest to take place across America on Inauguration Day. Here's Glenn's advice for those considering attendance: DON'T GO. No matter who is responsible for the poster or for any possible future chaos that may take place, the far left and the media WILL blame Trump supporters regardless of the facts. And because of that, if you attend and partake in rioting, you WILL be responsible for the loss of our rights that will come as a result. Don't go. But, listen to this clip to find out what Glenn thinks you SHOULD do on Inauguration Day instead…

Parler exec speaks out against ‘unfair’ Big Tech throttle

Big Tech isn't making it easy for organizations outside of the left's coalition to survive. Amy Peikoff is the Chief Policy Officer for Parler — the social media platform now throttled by Amazon, Apple, and Google. She joins Glenn to discuss the recent moves made against Parler and how the company is fighting to move forward: "We're doing everything we can to save civil discourse on the Internet. I promise: We're on it."

Can Frustrated Conservatives Learn from the Tea Party? | Matt Kibbe | Ep 92

The nation was shocked as the "Save America" rally in Washington, D.C., devolved into a siege of the U.S. Capitol. The day after, as heads were still spinning, Glenn sits down with Matt Kibbe, host of BlazeTV's "Kibbe on Liberty," to look at what led to this: Woke authoritarianism is in power, lockdowns are unending, and the Left has finally found out how to weaponize fear. The media is all too happy to watch the country burn, as long as the Left is holding the torch. But Glenn and Matt remember the lessons learned from the Tea Party, Martin Luther King Jr., and other movements that found success through peace. Conservatives and libertarians must find a path forward so we have more 9-12 marches, fewer stormings of the Capitol, and real change from those who believe they rule over us.

Here's how the left used COVID-19 to DESTROY us & our kids

COVID 19 was used to not only destroy businesses, morale, and education but to destroy us and our kids, too. The left is in control of nearly everything now, and they've used that power to make us feel alone. Glenn says he believes a miracle could happen to turn this great nation back towards the principles on which it was founded — BUT, we must turn back towards God first. Life DOES have meaning and tomorrow WILL be better.
