The Government Spent Money on This Instead of Hurricane Preparations in Miami

Hurricane Irma is projected to make landfall in south Florida, and Miami is unprepared, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency. With Texas still recovering from Tropical Storm Harvey and Florida preparing for Irma, it may be the worst possible moment for FEMA to be running out of funds. FEMA had only $1.01 billion on hand Tuesday morning and is expected to be out of money by Friday, Bloomberg reported.

Where did all the money go? On radio Wednesday, Glenn listed some of the most absurd examples of government spending. Miami hasn’t been hit with a hurricane this deadly in decades, and the area’s flood control system badly needs to be updated.

“Our government has blown through hundreds of billions of dollars of wasteful spending that could have been applied to preparation for Miami,” Glenn said.

In 2016, the government used money to study TV bingewatching, comedy clubs, monkey drool and hamster fights. Half a billion was spent on a radio and TV station in Miami that attempted to broadcast into Cuba even though the country’s communist leadership was blocking the signal.

“What happens when you have a country more concerned with political favors than prioritizing what really matters?” Glenn asked. “It won’t survive.”

GLENN: It won't survive. That is what the former FEMA director said when he was asked how the Miami area would hold up under a severe water surge from a major hurricane related to the flooding: It won't survive.

Hurricane Irma is now on a projected path to make landfall in south Florida, and it could hit Miami this Sunday. It's currently a Category 5, with 185 mile-an-hour winds. It's already the second strongest storm recorded in the Atlantic.

Amazingly, Miami hasn't been hit by a major hurricane, category four or stronger since 1926. That one killed 400 people.

The third deadliest hurricane in US history. But Miami at the time was this quaint little resort compared to what it is today. Yesterday, two firms estimated a repeat of the 1926 Miami hurricane could cause $130 billion in property damage. People are already starting to think about getting out of Miami.

So why is it so dangerous? Well, it's flood control system. It was designed in the 1950s, and it desperately needs updating. It's kind of like what happened with Hurricane Katrina. What was built in the '50s and '60s, no longer any good.

Our government has blown through hundreds of billions of dollars on wasteful spending that could have been applied to preparation for Miami.

Last year, the government found money to study TV binge watching, comedy clubs. Honest to God, we spent money studying monkey drool, fish treadmill endurance testing. I didn't even know they worked on treadmills. They also spent money on hamster fights.

Miami has been the home of a radio and TV station attempting to broadcast into Cuba. It was blocked by Fidel Castro. Half a billion dollars flushed down the toilet, on a radio station and TV station nobody ever watched or heard.

What happens when you have a country more concerned with political favors than prioritizing what really matters? Let me quote FEMA: It won't survive.

Why it’s time for Dr. Fauci to STOP DOING INTERVIEWS!

Dr. Fauci was at it again over the weekend, this time declaring during a CBS News interview that it's 'too soon to tell' if Americans can safely gather with family this Christmas season. But the main issue isn't necessarily Fauci's crazy statement, Stu explains to Glenn. Rather, it's Fauci doing TV interviews at all. The left will support anything he says and the right will call him an idiot no matter what. He no longer has the ability to sway minds, so why is he on television more than Glenn is?!

If the Deep State Can Ruin Gen. Flynn's Life, It Can Ruin Yours | Ep 119

Donald Trump famously tweeted, "They're not after me, they're after you. I'm just in the way." General Michael Flynn was also in the way, apparently, because the deep state has definitely gone after him, on every front. He's been hounded by the Department of Justice, the FBI, the Democrat Party, and the media. But the hounding didn't stop there. Chase Bank canceled accounts because he was "a reputational risk." Meanwhile, the real problems of our country go unchecked. Glenn and Gen. Flynn talk about all of it and more: The immigration crisis in Del Rio, the opioid crisis, the impact of critical race theory, the threat of radical Islamism, the corruption of the media, the persecution of Brett Kavanaugh, the incompetence of Biden, the tragedy of Afghanistan, the hypocrisy of Gen. Milley. And Russia. It's is all we heard for the last six years. But as details emerge, we see the truth. Gen. Flynn is very clear: "I didn't lie to the FBI." And yet, Gen. Flynn still believes in the American people to save the country.

Biden’s Border CRISIS: The Threat to America

One of the largest immediate threats to the safety of this nation is going down right NOW at the southern border. It's a massive threat to our national security, and a disastrous humanitarian crisis curiously engineered by the supposed "humanitarian" Left. In 2020, as Trump's immigration and border policies were running full speed, there were 345,000 encounters between Border Patrol and illegal immigrants. As of August, under Biden, the number of encounters was 1.4 MILLION … and we're not even finished with the year.

On "Glenn TV" tonight, Glenn asks the Biden admin: If the goal isn't to destroy America, then what IS the goal? "Fox Nation" host Lara Logan has been reporting on the border and tells Glenn the immigration system has been so dismantled by Democrats and the United Nations that effectively "there is no southern border." When the crisis dies down, the media moves on. No one really learns anything from the experience, and no practical changes are made to our border policy. We're set up to repeat the cycle all over again in a few months.

National security expert Todd Bensman hopes to end the cycle by exposing the reality beyond the headlines. He's the author of "America's Covert Border War: The Untold Story of the Nation's Battle to Prevent Jihadist Infiltration," and reveals what he saw in Del Rio, Texas. "The 50,000 coming across the border every week DWARFS the 15k" Haitian "refugees" that temporarily camped out.

And while press secretary Jen Psaki complains that Republicans are only interested in giving speeches at the border, one GOP congresswoman from New Mexico is providing solutions. Rep. Yvette Herrell has teamed up with Rep. Chip Roy on the PAUSE Act to keep COVID-19 border restrictions in place. She asks, "If Covid is that serious, then why aren't we securing our border?"

Former CIA director Mike Pompeo responds to EXPLOSIVE Julian Assange story: 'I make no apologies'

Former CIA Director Mike Pompeo joined Glenn Beck on the radio program to give his response to the explosive new report from Yahoo News alleging some Trump officials — including Pompeo — considered kidnapping or assassinating WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange.

"I would say three things. First of all, [Michael] Isikoff, we've seen he was a big Russia hoax perpetrator. So take that for what it's worth," Pompeo said of the Yahoo News report's co-author. "Second, there are many stories out there now about how the president and I were engaged in things that were crazy, right? There was talk about there being an effort to drop a nuclear weapon on China in the last week of the administration. This story is of that same ilk, right? I couldn't tell you who they have as their sources, but those sources didn't know what we were doing."

"The third point ... we were very worried about the fact that we had bad actors who were stealing really, really sensitive material from the United States," Pompeo added. "And I make no apologies for the fact that we, and the administration, were working diligently to make sure that we were able to protect this important sensitive information, whether it was cyber actors in Russia, or the Chinese military, or anyone who was trying to take this information away from us. And not just commercial stuff, like intellectual property theft, but real national security secrets. So we were working hard to go after those bad actors who were trying to do that."

Glenn asked Pompeo if he would classify Julian Assange and WikiLeaks to be a "journalist in a media outlet, or a hostile intelligence entity."

"So I came to believe that they were, in fact, one of the first, non-state, hostile intelligence entities," Pompeo answered. "They weren't engaged in even crappy reporting, like Isikoff does. They were engaged in active efforts to steal secrets themselves, and pay others to do the same in a way that violated the central understandings that I think the American people get, and second, violated U.S. law as well. We're always careful. I'm all about a big, bold, strong First Amendment. But these folks were acting in ways that were deeply inconsistent with that."
