It was widely reported today that Eric Holder refused to turn over specific documents to House Oversight Committee Chairman Issa, despite deadlines and a looming vote to hold him in contempt. However, after writing a letter to President Obama, Holder was granted Executive Privilege over the documents pertaining to Operation ‘Fast and Furious’. How convenient.
While the left thinks the GOP is overreacting to the Executive Privilege assertion, and have been up in arms about the House Oversight Committee's decision to move forward with the vote on whether or not to charge Holder with contempt, they were singing a different tune just a few years ago.
In 2005 Jon Stewart did a special segment on "Executive Privilege." Stewarts discusses President Bush's use of executive privilege on Harriet Miers. Stewart goes on to say that "we should know everything, we pay the president's salary."
