ISIS Claims Responsibility for Terrorism in Jakarta
The Indonesian capital Jakarta has been hit by a series of explosions and gun battles on the streets, according to the BBC. The blasts were centered on a major shopping and business district close to foreign embassies and the United Nations offices. At least one of the blasts hit a Starbucks cafe and a police security post. ISIS has reportedly claimed responsibility. MORE
Texas Panhandle City Says 'Enough' on Middle East Refugees
A city in the Texas Panhandle says “enough already” when it comes to resettling refugees from the Middle East. The city of Amarillo now sports the dubious title of having the country’s highest ratio of refugees from Middle East nations. City officials are asking for a halt to the resettlement of these refugees because of the negative impact on their community. “We’ve been a giving community, and it’s a huge disservice to bring in refugees in numbers that we’re not able to handle. We create small ghettos,” Amarillo Mayor Paul Harpole told Ward. MORE

U.S. House Passes Pro-Life Reconciliation Bill
The U.S. House of Representatives passed the “Restoring Americans’ Healthcare Freedom Reconciliation Act,” (H.R. 3762), 240-189. Among other things, the bill would block, for one year, most federal payments to affiliates of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA). In advance of the vote, the National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), the federation of state right-to-life organizations, advised House members the roll call on passage of the bill would be included in NRLC’s scorecard of key right-to-life votes. U.S. Sailors on Their Knees as Biden Denies Apology
After Iran released 10 U.S. Navy sailors from custody early Wednesday morning, some media outlets reported that the U.S. had issued an apology to Tehran in order to secure the sailors' freedom. But Vice President Joe Biden told CBS News that there was "no apology" given. "When you have a problem with the boat, (do) you apologize the boat had a problem? No," Biden said in an interview with "CBS This Morning" on Wednesday. "And there was no looking for any apology. This was just standard nautical practice." MORE
Missouri and Nebraska Legislators Introduce Campus Press Legislation
As many state legislatures begin their 2016 legislative sessions this month, lawmakers in Missouri and Nebraska have introduced important bills designed to protect student journalists from censorship. Both bills, modeled after the John Wall New Voices Act of 2015 that passed in North Dakota last year, would ensure college student journalists are guaranteed freedom of the press. MORE
