Dr. Benjamin Carson answers questions about his political philosophy and ambitions to run for office

Tonight on TV, Glenn interview Dr. Ben Carson, the man who made a huge splash in the news when he gave a speech calling for a flat tax rate, a reformed healthcare system, and an end to political correctness - all in front of President Obama. Glenn talked to him about the speech and his political philosophy during an extended on air interview.

Glenn spent a lot of time talking about political philosophy with Dr. Carson, and asked him where he fell on “The Freedom Scale”. Carson said that he was as close to the Constitution as possible.

“I want the government to provide the military so we don’t get invaded by somebody and destroyed. I want the government to provide the roads so I can get from point A to B. In terms of taking care of my day to day needs, I want to do that myself. I want my community to do that. And I can band together with a group of people  and we of like mind we can decide we can take care of ourselves,” Carson said. “That’s how we did things in the beginning.”

Dr. Carson said there has been too much of a tendency for people to now look to the government to provide for them. He said we have as a country have forgotten that America was supposed to be a nation “for and by the people”, not the government.

Dr. Carson also stressed the importance of education, which he argued can help a society regulate itself by understanding the basics of economics and self control. He pointed specifically to the housing crisis, where people didn’t either understand or care that they were buying houses they couldn’t afford.

At the end of the show, Glenn went into a lightning round of questions, and included one asking if he had plans to run for political office.

“I leave it in the hands of God,” Dr. Carson said.

Saw this guy on Hannity, love his coherent outlook on the failures of Obamatax!

When I was eight my mom bought me an Encyclopedia Brittanica Set, and I remember reading through every volume.  The first time I looked for pictures of things that interested me, the second time I read things with pictures on things that didn’t interested me, and the third time through I read Everything Else without pictures.  By the time I was done I had memorized a huge amount of information that did nothing less than help me in all kinds of school subjects!  To this day (37 yrs later) I still recall many, many things I read, not to mention in school when my friends were taking basic classes I was taking advanced classes (including skipping a grade).  My kids now have thir own Encyclopedia Set and are encouraged to read them…

Apparently the electorate that voted this current clown in office don’t think the office of POTUS is anything close to brain surgery so the good doctor may not be able to influence the populace. That is unless he get’s the thumbs up from Stoop Dog.

  • Anonymous

How can you vote for this guy? He’s obviously gay.

  • sparducks

Is he running for office? Why would I vote for him? He’s not gay. And why wouldn’t I vote for him if he were? Have you ever read anything I’ve written against gay’s. Except maybe I called you a fag. You are gay right?

  • Anonymous

He says that if you live out in the middle of the country its ok for you to have a semi-automatic weapon…

Yet, many of our school shootings didn’t happen in urban areas. They happened in Bethal, Alaska…Pearl, Mississippi…West Paducah, Kentucky..Craighead County, Arkansas….Blacksburg, Virginia…Columbine, Colorado….

I have no intentions of giving up my weapons. I’m just saying that if he DOES plan to run for president he’s going to have to put more thought into his stances and answers. What he said here on the gun matter just hands the media the exact type of opening they need to ridicule him.

There are no dots to connect gun control to school shootings.  If you want ten times as many school shootings, then screw the 2nd Amendment, because that’s what will happen if we forget the words “shall not be infringed.”  I’m just not sure where you are going with this.

  • Rae McCarthy

What a amazing man.   We need more men like him!

  • Anonymous

What question was that?  Oh yeah, and Michelle Bachman, I bet her husband’s not gay either…….

“If you want ten times as many school shootings, then screw the 2nd Amendment, because that’s what will happen if we forget the words “shall not be infringed.”

Then I’m surprised that European countries don’t see school shootings every day. They have very strict gun control—yet nowhere near as many school shootings as we do.
I realize that population has to be taken into account when it comes to any form of gun crime, but even when we go by RATE as opposed to COUNT America still leads the civilized word in gun crime. Of the twenty- eight richest countries in the world, only one of those countries is responsible for 80 percent of the gun deaths in them. And everyone knows who that country is.

But that aside, my point was that Mr. Carson will have to be more media savvy. He implied that it was OK for those in rural areas to have semi-automatic weapons, and I’m just saying that the gun control zealots will point out that some of our worst school shootings happen in rural areas. Mr. Carson would be better off to admit that America is stuck with the gun. That there is no going back now.

So now you hate gay people? Ladies and gentlemen liberal tolerance.

  • SoThere

Creetan’s a homophobic bigot. Most liberals are bigots and racists.

  • http://youtu.be/R7MC2wu49Cw Sam Fisher

You got to drop your homophobic ways critter. They are people like you.

  • http://youtu.be/R7MC2wu49Cw Sam Fisher

Maybe he is just shy about getting out of the closet because you know that people that are homophobic are really just gay deep down inside.

  • SoThere

I really have no problem with Creetan doing the bunga, bunga in his bedroom.

  • http://youtu.be/R7MC2wu49Cw Sam Fisher

Like I had been saying for years political correctness will destroy this county. I hope this guy does run for office.

You have nothing to worry about: Guns will ALWAYS be part of American life.

I’m just saying that politicians should be more honest about that, and just admit that by making it legal to own guns we’ve made it necessary to own guns. The bad guys are armed, so we should be to.
Just say that and I think most Americans will accept that honest, realistic assessment.

Look, add up the populations of Germany, France, Spain, and the UK and you equal the population of America. But add up their murders and you come nowhere near ours. Each of those European countries will see less than a 1,000 murders in a bad year.
America will see 14,000 murders in a “good” year. Take out gang crime and black on black crime and we’re still way ahead of Europe.

Given that, why would anyone leave themselves unarmed in America?!
We can’t pretend America isn’t a violent nation–so make that the reason FOR owning guns.

I don’t know…If America had wanted a religious zealot then Santorum would be sitting in the White House now.

  • Anonymous

Yes, Mr. Carson is a real conservative…
But what state would a real conservative win that Mitt Romney didn’t? No doubt that Carson would get more votes in Alabama, West Virginia, Kentucky….But Mitt won all those states anyway…so again, what state could Carson win that Romney did not?

  • Anonymous

    THAT IS THE ONLY REASON!

  • sparducks

I thought all of you libs were supposed to be fag lovers. Why you so hostile towards effeminate men? What do you have against other gay men anyhow? why don’t you keep your nose out of their assholes. You want prolifers to keep their noses out of women’s vaginas. Well then keep your nose out of faggot’s bungholes.

He’s not a religious zealot. He’s a devout Christian. What’s wrong with you?

Thanks, Glenn, for interviewing Dr. Carson. He’s a real breath of fresh air, and he does give us hope every time we are lucky enough to catch him being interviewed or we hear one of his speeches online.

BTW, the movie based on his life story, “Gifted Hands,” is available on Netflix.com — and there are full-length free videos of some of Dr. Carson’s speeches also available online. Do a search.

I really like him, but I don’t agree with his stance on the Second Amendment. He should be stronger on abiding by the Constitution.

i’m sorry to go here but mr. carson’s got that “i want to jump him” lovability.

    run him for president.

I can tell Glen admires Dr. Carson. I love the man’s spirit and his love of the Lord. No wonder he fears no evil.If the good Dr. Carson decides to run some day for office, I’ll be of cause a 100% support him.

Great emotional heart felt movie Go2, loved it.

Yes, it’s a wonderful, heart-warming story that will uplift anyone who views it. We need to see/hear more of Dr. Ben Carson, to help offset the Politically-Correct B.S. and “YOU’RE A VICTIM THAT NEEDS THE GOVERNMENT TO SUPPORT YOU” nonsense.

Please tell everyone you can about the movie and about Dr. Carson, and help to spread his message that we CAN be all that we hope to be, if we dare to dream and work to fulfill our dreams. He is a national treasure–and so is his mother!

The GOP still thinks a minority candidate gives them a better shot…

Herman Cain was taken down by scandal, but even before that did blacks flock to him? No. If you saw a Cain rally you know it was filled with the same old white people who are drawn to any conservative candidate.
The same is true with Alan Keyes.

This idea that people will flock to a candidate just because he looks like them is patronizing and absurd.

I mean, what if the left ran a radical liberal who just happened to be southern, older, and white…is that guy going to win the South and Bible Belt?

  • Alex

Glenn, can’t you give us the transcripts as well as the videos?
