Below is more information on Sgt. Tahmooressi:

On March 31, Mexican federal officers arrested Marine Corps Sgt. Andrew Tahmooressi for weapons possession. Tahmorressi, meanwhile, says he took a wrong turn and crossed the southern border by mistake. The 25-year-old decorated war veteran and Florida native was in the process of relocating to San Diego for treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder. He had been in San Diego for 10 days when he took the wrong turn at the San Ysidro checkpoint.

Last Friday, TheBlaze received and released the last ditch 911 call placed by Tahmooressi just minutes before he was arrested. The fear in Tahmooressi’s voice is obvious as he tells the 911 operator, “The problem is I crossed the border by accident and I have three guns in my truck and they’re trying to take my guns from me.” The 911 operator replies, “There’s nothing I can help you with sir. I do apologize.”

After being arrested, Tahmooressi was originally held in Tijuana’s La Mesa Penitentiary, where he was placed in general population and his life was threatened. He was then moved to solitary confinement and shackled to a bed for nearly 30 days. Last week, Tahmorressi was moved to a maximum-security prison about 40 miles outside of Tijuana. He faces a sentence of six to 21 years in a Mexican prison for carrying his registered AR-15 rifle, .45-caliber pistol, and 12-gauge pump shotgun in his car across the border.

While this case has slowly but surely received more and more attention, it seems as though little is being done to secure Tahmooressi’s release. Glenn has spoken to Sgt. Tahmooressi’s mother, Jill Tahmooressi, several times over the last few weeks. Watch the interviews below:

Glenn is totally outraged that Tahmooressi has been arrested by Mexican police for having assault weapons. But does Glenn thinks US border agents would arrest a Mexican militant with assault weapons? Considering the problem of weapons trafficking into Mexico, I’ll bet their police there are just a little sensitive when they catch a foreigner with such weapons. I’ve been across the border into Tijuana. There are numerous signs warning of the last chance to turn around before entering the check point. There are big signs warning that weapons are not allowed across the border. I think if I had assualt weopons in my trunk, I’d get out of my car before the check point and talk to a US police officer before I went through.

The situation raises questions and US diplomats will be the ones to ask them. Secretary Kerry was aware of the issue before May 22. On May 22, the State Department reported: “Mr. Tahmooressi has been visited 11 times by consular officers. We have raised any concerns we might about his treatment with the appropriate authorities. The consulate and embassy have talked to numerous Mexican officials regarding his case, including the authorities at the prison and the Mexican foreign ministry about the case. So we’ve been very engaged.” Its likely that any improvement in Tahmooressi’s treatment by Mexican police has been a result of State Deptartment efforts, which will continue until his probable release. Glenn neglected to mention any of the State Dept’s progress.

NOBODY should be visiting Mexico period

  • Shawn Cameron

Since when has anyone considered a 45 pistol and a 12 gauge shotgun “assault weapons”? Why would you consider an AR-15 an “assault weapon”?

  • Семья Дорман Делгадо

In Mexico ignorance to an existing law is NOT a valid defense in a court of law. Once you cross an international border the laws change, and in Mexico’s case, Tahmooressi will have a tough time getting out, unless sufficient political pressure is applied, and even if he does gets out, the guns will NOT be returned to him. Mexico’s constitution allows for the bearing of arms provided they are registered with the local authorities and that you have NOTHING military grade. The shotty wouldn’t be hard to register, but the AR-15 is considered military grade in Mexico. He’ll also have a tough time with the .45 pistol as the caliber is also considered military grade in Mexico.

Just stating what the law is there. And I go with Landree’s comment that there are multiple signs south of downtown San Diego on the 5 and the 805 that says “Guns illegal in Mexico” and “Medical marijuana illegal in Mexico”

  • Семья Дорман Делгадо

In Mexico the 45 and the AR 15 are considered military grade assault weapons.

  • CardMinnow

“AR” literally stands for “assault-rifle,” it is, by definition, an assault weapon…

  • Shawn Cameron

No the AR came from the name of the company that originally developed it, Armalite.

  • CardMinnow

Huh, someone lied to me at some stage, thank you. That said, it is designed to be an automatic rifle, and was designed for military use, so I think it still gets the designation of “assault weapon.”

Question is our President killing two birds with one stone ???? This Taiban prisoner he hated the U.S and may be helping our enemies that right on obama side. Plus for grand stand play that he be exchange for five hardcore Muslims leaders to launch attacks on U.S citizens after the next election !!! So obama go along with this ruse in helping people that hate U.S the five Muslims radicals and this soldier who hate the U.S and may be siding with our enemies as a possible traitor . Plus obama play it up he rescue as good U.S soldiers to grab the spotlight from his VA scandal !! But obama cannot lift his little finger in helping a very honorable Marine in Mexico ,he has abandon him because he on the wrong side he believe in keeping U.S strong and free and obama want this incident to grow to help take the spotlight off all obama scandals !! So he is being treated as a expendable cog at obama whim because he is not in lockstep with obama in hating the U.S like that other prisoner could just be play acting ruse in AFG to help our enemies to bring down U.S!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I don’t put anything pass obama in how low he will stoop to any level to bring down the U.S and Western Free World !!!!!!!!!!!

This must have been written by another Glenn Beck lemming who was self educated or home schooled. It was painful to even try and read through his ignorant rant. I haven’t seen so many grammatical errors since grading a 3rd grade book report on a Judy Blume novel.

  • Glenn Coughlin

Exactly how horrible is this prison if they allow this Marine to conduct a radio interview?
It must be really rough there.

  • Jose R. Gonzalez

    what is a noel?

I’ll bet the Mexican border police consider an AR-15 and assault weapon. I could have just referenced “weapons” in my post and made the same point.

It not how a message or view point is sent morse code, spanish, broken english is the different angle or view point I think I hit a nerve with you I’m getting close to exposing the true obama that why your kind lash out with trying to belittle and label anyone who you don’t agree with you , speaking of lemmings sound like you are a obama lemming ,who think they’re the perfect ones like obama and the royal elites !!! I thought we left your kind in pre war era of World War Two in Germany in the late 1930 !! Hey don’t forget to bow down to your phony savior you obama lemming!!

Because there is some spot light on him now better treatment ???

  • Shawn Cameron

Sorry it was not designed to be fully automatic. It is a precision gun and not one meant for spraying bullets.

  • Shawn Cameron

“Glenn is totally outraged that Tahmooressi has been arrested by Mexican police for having weapons. But does Glenn thinks US border agents would arrest a Mexican militant with weapons?”

I guess the real question there would be what constitutes being a “militant”. If simply owning or being in the possession of weapons makes one a “militant”. Then no our border agents would not arrest someone for such, as long as everything else is in order and any comparison to how we treat those who crossed the border and break our laws, to those going into Mexico and breaking Mexican law (an oxymoron if ever there was one) is completely off base.

I guess you’re correct I got caught up on the wrong word. What I should have asked is how do you define a militant, and why would you automatically assume this young man is one?

  • Shawn Cameron

Yes and you misspelled the word novel.

Does that totally negate any point you have made? Oh wait you didn’t make a point, because you didn’t have one. That’s usually the case when someone attacks Grammar.

  • Anonymous

Looking at the picture from the perspective of Mexican police, where they clearly state that importing weapons is illegal, I guess they would consider Tahmooressi a militant because he was trained by and served in the military and they found a trunk full of military grade guns and a lot of amo and clips. Again, omit the word “militant” and my main point stands, which is that the situation is questionable and that it’s already being addressed by US diplomats. Deceivingly, Beck claims nobody in Administration cares.

  • Shawn Cameron

You see you talk about Beck being deceiving (and no argument he very well is a lot of the time). But saying that he had “a trunk full of military grade guns” is very deceiving, let me guess “omit that and the point remains the same.”

Fact is he had a shotgun, a pistol and a .22 on steroids, that is in no way any more dangerous than any other firearm. It just looks meaner. Which is the true definition of assault weapons “guns that look mean.” Also it’s magazines not “clips”.

The notion that Mexican authorities are on the up and up and only thinking about enforcing their laws is laughable. They saw an opportunity for ransom money, they do it all the time, and our diplomats will probably pay up as they usually do, I’m sure you’re correct and the State Dept. is negotiating the price as we speak.

It amazes me how liberals want drug dealers and thieves in our country released from our prisons because they committed “victimless crimes” (BTW no such thing). Yet a Marine, highly decorated at that, drives a little too far down the road and they all want to see him rot in a Mexican prison.

  • Anonymous

I obviously don’t know a lot about guns, but it’s no surprise the Mexican border police would take the weapons in Tahmooressi trunk (picture attached) as a serious matter, and perhaps to your point, an opportunity. But I think Mexican corruption is beside the point here. I think comparing the danger of these weapons is beside the point. You have to admit any agent would be curious about the intent of transporting such weapons across the border.

Liberals don’t want drug dealers and thieves released. They want drug users that do no harm released, which is a libertarian principal. Plus keeping users in prison wastes tax payer’s money. And who said anything about wanting a Marine rotting in a Mexican prison? This supposed liberal government is trying to get him out. The circumstances of the situation do raise certain questions.

  • Glenn Coughlin

Sure. One missed letter is the same as 20 or so.
    Good point.

  • Glenn Coughlin

    Yes.
You are the perfect rep for gb’s ignorant cult!

  • Shawn Cameron

Point remains the same, if you disagree with what the man said then comprise a counter argument. Attacking someone for Grammar is the weak and cowardly thing to do. It shows the mentality of a 1st grader who has not learned to deal with conflict.

  • Glenn Coughlin

I would have been happy to do so, but it was impossible to understand what he was saying because it read impossible to understand.
That being said, don’t try and scold me like a child.
    Have a nice life.

  • Shawn Cameron

    Then don’t behave like one.

  • Tagg Heurer

Although Marxism is revolutionary and Fabianism gradualist, the centrally controlled system that each envisions is basically the same.
